Problems w/WordPerfec Message #272681
From: Evan Zucker HP Peripherals Forum · LaserJet 4/5 May 16, 1995 11:38 PM
I recently upgrade from a H-P LaserJet III to a LJ 4 Plus. I am having problems printing with WordPerfect 6.1on the new printer. In addition to a label macro printing the sender address in a different position, the addressee on envelopes using WPW's envelope function are appearing lower and…

John, FWIW, I purchased Murmurs of the Earth for the PC a few weeks ago. Not only did it not work on my system, but it crashed my system and trashed my Norton Desktop for Windows desktop. I returned it the next day. The Egghead salesman told me that he…

Adrian, Thanks for all your effort. I have since solved this problem. The solution, not surprisingly, was simple but buried several layers deep inside nested batch files. Although I added lines in my LANtastic boot-up files to specify my CD-ROM drives, those lines were not included in the batch file…

Adrian, I haven't posted my AUTOEXEC and CONFIG files. I wouldn't know which of the three computers to post them for. If you think that your files might contain a line or lines of interest I'd like to see them. — EVAN

Adrian, Thanks a lot. I've received a lot of suggestions to try to make this work, but so far nothing has worked. — EVAN

Adrian, (Does the "[D] stand for Deutschland?] Thanks for the reply. I don't recall ever hearing about so complicated a system. Why do you operate that way? Do you have any special software set-ups that allow you to run CD-ROM software from a remote location? — EVAN

Glenn, Yes. I have the Texel DM-3024, and its specs are virtually the same as the NEC-74. I'm real pleased with it. — EVAN

Has anybody successfully accessed their CD-ROM using remote control software? I routinely access my office LANtastic network from home using pcAnywhere 4.5. However, I am unable to access the CD-ROMs connected to our network. I called Symantec tech support, and they said that their program does not support CD-ROM device…

Albert, I, too, and always suspicious about anything a salesman says about his product or the competition. However, these were software salesman. They don't sell hardware, and so they have no apparent reason to give misleading information about the drives, just about the discs. I am considering the double-speed drives…

Stephen, Are you a CD-ROM dealer? Can you recommend a reasonably fast and very reliable CD-ROM drive for use with legal research discs? — EVAN

Albert, I don't know what type of failures were reported. All I know is that two legal research CD-ROM salesmen recommended that I not buy the NEC-74 because a large percentage of them have been returned by customers because of problems. The salesmen generally recommend the Toshiba 3301. — EVAN

$100 — definitely. $200 — I'd think about it.

David, There is a growing gaggle of legal reporter CD-ROMs available in California. Publishers include Bancroft Whitney, West Publishing (soon), Law Disc and Matthew Bender. Most of them cost a small fortune. — EVAN
