Hey, thanks for the tip, Martin. I didn't realize one could just download the interface. Tres cool.
>>i just don't see MS pushing Win95 in Win1996
>>I think Micro$oft will probably phase out '95.
>>and… you're surprised by this?
I *could* say it isn't so, but I'm not sure what good that would do. He must have decided he needed a little more money and that keeping NT and Win95 distinct was a good way to guarantee that… Th' baw-stid! DT
PMJI – I was crushed to read in InfoWorld last week (or the week before) that His Billness has decided not to converge Win95 and NT at all, where previously they were talking about a 3 year convergence. That's a bummer, as NT is *way* better than Win95…

Hey, try saving from 3DS as a TIF instead. No idea if it will work or not…
Brendon – I am having enough trouble with AAS that I cannot be used as a resource for how to do anything. Flipper errors upon opening the program when in 24-bit mode and other weird errors when in 16-bit. Can't open some avi files, takes 15 minutes to open a…
Dave – The SVGA thing is a good idea. I'll let you know.
Thanks you. Since my GPFs are Stealth-related, could FLIPPER be something that changes video resolution on the fly to allow working on image/avi sizes other than the current video mode? Or something that samples incoming files down to the thumbnails displayed in AAS? Just wondered, since I also have 3DS…
Dave – My little FLIPPER problem seems to be getting worse. Many files that I try to open, AVI or, not are generating FLIPPER errors which always eventually (but sooner and sooner as time goes on) lead to GPFs. Hey, Autodesk employees, any response to this error report? I have…

Here's my list, to date. By the way, like the context sensitive help and the little "clue" line at the bottom of the interface that tells you what the item under the cursor does. 1) Move Animator Studio to Windows NT as a fully 32-bit application so it can run…

I have a 5.1 MB .WAV file that I'm opening in AA Studio. When I open it, defaulting to 320x240x965fr, I get the following error: FLIPPER An error has occurred in your application. If you choose Ignore, you should save your work in a new file. If you choose Close,…

Oh, yes. Another one. I'd like Animator Studio to work directly with the PAR and its files, as it does with AVI, Quicktime and FL? files. I mean, why not? Jeez! and other exclamations. David Taffet

Oh, one more, I'd like to reiterate…. I'd like the bevel function to be adjusted to either: A) Not creating self-intersecting shapes by averaging the positions of vertices that would create self-intersections and making them coincident at the average location -or- doing the above and welding the vertices into one.…

I would like to be able to cancel the saving of the last rendered frame with a stroke I know I don't want to save the results, I'd like to be able to cancel the save. I would like a TWIST command in the editor. It should go up to…
Check into VistaPro and VistaMorph. Look for VRLI (Virtual Reality Labs) here on CIS and talk to them. Their product will do what you're talking about. David Taffet
Ana – As I said, I was surprised myself. I'm certain the 8100 in question had all native PPC applications, it's in the demo room where I work where the awesome power of the Power Mac is demonstrated to all who stick their faces in the door. It's very unlikely…
I do not think that the Apple Power PC design, even with the PCI bus, is intended to run Windows NT. I think it will be up to IBM (shudder) to do that. Those same machines *may* then run the Mac OS also. David Taffet
I couldn't say. I'm surrounded by Macs at work and see SGIs there more often than PCs. Just got back from a week's training in UNIX, sponsored free by SGI, as a matter of fact. My perceptions are certainly skewed by this. DT
Erik – How old is the 9650? How many "miles". I've seen new listed at $4770+. Age and wear and tear would be factors… David Taffet

Don – FWIW, re your question dated 4/15, I worked on a 20MB scan in Photoshop for Windows at home, on my 486/66 VLB with a Diamond Stealth Pro and 52 MB RAM, then took it to work to print on a 3M Rainbow (NICE!) and opened and tweaked it…

I saw an ad in a recent magazine for Animator Studio. Is this product released, or was somebody jumping the gun, there. David Taffet (And, do we need it, since Painter 3 can do file sequences…)
Jonas – Presumably Nik is back from vacation…? What's his ID? I'd like to get into a dialog about my video problems. Thanks. David Taffet
>> You've got me completely stumped.
>> I'm assuming that the exact same vib3ds.vlm file that works with r3 isn't working with r4. (Is that correct?)
I'll work with Jonas. I guess it was a fluke that the R3 driver worked, but didn't Vibrant change some things in order to be able to do the fast previews and all that? The other thing (that I was thinking) is that my first video chipset was v.1.11, which…
Thank you, Jonas. Mucho appreciado DT
#R4 won't run, R3 does
Message #155048
Hi, Gary – Last time I checked in was when my R4 would not run, though R3 did. Well, I have isolated the problem, though not solved it. I waited until now to get a BIOS upgrade for my Stealth Pro VLB video adapter in the hopes that the troubles…
Jeez, Brian – You really make me miss California…. 🙂 DT
Martin – >>sounds like a reasonable assumption.
No, Martin, it doesn't run at all with a vanilla config. If I put the SCSI and sound drivers back into the config files I can get it to open, but it works like crap and won't open a 4 MB project file that R3 whizzes thru. Gary's initial reaction…
Thanks, Gary. I really do suspect a bad set of disks. Very odd stuff going on, here. I'll talk to my dealer right away on Monday… DT

Message #148129
I have had R4 for a couple of months, now, but have not been able to get it to work on my PC, though R3 runs like a champ using the same configurations. I have upgraded my DOS to 6.22 and QEMM to 7.5, have tried with optimized configurations and…

Theo – I was testing the capture function and was not happy with psychedelic-looking artifacts I was getting, so I started fiddling with my block limit and q factors. I was intending to make large adjustments and then refine them, but I guess I got so excited by getting a…
My original alteration of the Q factor was when I was real time recording. It's good to know that 255 is the limit, since the software lets you set it WAY above that. I'm also glad you said "this is weird". At least I'm not *totally* off my nut. Regardless,…
I should know better than to cry "bug"… In my own defense, inconsistent results helped lead me astray. It does say in one sentence on page 40 of the documentation that an animation will break up if the block limit is set too high, but it didn't stick in my…
Regarding the hot drive thing: In my case this is not the issue. In one session, without turning off my CPU or dumping ice water in it, I can copy files to the PAR, have them play like crap, then render the same ones to the PAR and have them…
Gus – I will check what you suggest and get back to you. I clearly don't know how the programming was done, HOWEVER, I'm talking about a 30 frame animation where each frame is about 700K on a DOS drive. I have 99% of my PAR drive empty and have…
Congratulations, Dave! Must be a great image! DT

Michael – Most movie music is controlled by Hal Leonard Publishing. To get permission for use, call (414) 774-3630 and ask for Doug, Chris or Nancy in Business Affairs (Doug does the actual permissions work). They will be able to tell you if they controll that music and what hoops…
