#AmiTCP w/ MFC III
Message #185204
Since the MFC's driver is in ROM, you'll have to manually change "serial.device" to "duart.device". For instance, with my PPP configuration, my ENVARC:SANA2/PPP0.CONFIG reads "duart.device 1 57600 0.0.0.0 7WIRE DIALSCRIPT=AMITCP:db/dialscript". Good luck, Dan Daniel J. #Received Envoy V2.0
Message #185203
Setting the way back machine back ten years, I still owned a C64 but hung out with a bunch of Amiga 1000 people. I best remember Rick Unland when the group went to a JPL Amiga user group meeting and Rick proudly displayed a digitized image of the moon taken…
The Lightwave mailing list is still alive and well. I'm still trying to get my new internet provider to pop some useful mail processing programs on-line to help out and the mailing list will be moved over to a system that can offer digests and newsgroup gating. In the mean…
Though I kinda deleted my original PPP/AmigaTCP StartNet script, what follows is what I had working. Note I was using PPP's dialer feature to first connect to my IP. echo echo "login: djmccoy" amitcp:bin/login -f djmccoy AmiTCP:bin/online ppp0 run AmiTCP:AmiTCP WaitForPort AMITCP ; Configure loop-back device AmiTCP:bin/ifconfig lo0 localhost ;…
I don't know about the rest of the Video Toaster users out there but I DID have one Video Toaster that could have very well toasted bread! Darn near took the rest of my computer with it! I had NEVER seen a PCB fry like it did! The smell of…
#CEI/CBM Status
Message #173983
The US market may be small in comparison to the UK market but the one thing the US market wants is higher end machines. If CBM UK won out, I fear we power hungry high end users would be ignored. It's these same high end systems that make good Video…
Add me to the list of "I'll buy it!" for a Klingon Locale! I'd LOVE to see a good KlingonASCII translator to pipe text files to/from. 🙂 Daniel J. McCoy // CIS – 73742,3072 AP Engaged! \X/ Render 'till ya drop!
OIC in AmigaVend?
Message #166015
What happened to OIC in AmigaVend? I certainly hope this isn't the beginning of the end of another C compiler for the Amiga! Daniel J. McCoy // CIS – 73742,3072 AP Engaged! \X/ Render 'till ya drop!

#MagicWB 2 Great!
Message #165319
Watch out for a possible "Gotcha!" with the Magic-Daemon program. It seems at random times during reboots, you'll get this screen with the SASG logo saying "Workbench Enhanced by MagicWB" with a THX-like audio clip through your system. I had it happen twice on the same day on two machines…
#MagicWB
Message #165318
Robert Blayzor runs a BBS so you can try calling that or send internet e-mail to sasg@lsd.org and ask what's up. Living in the US, I didn't have to pay the $12 extra. It took a while but I did get both MagicWB and MUI. Daniel J. McCoy // CIS…
Sigh… No OS/2 port. Multitasking 32 bit OS with extended filenames and REXX NOW with less demands than Win-NT. Sigh. I deal with Windows 3.11 at work and hate it with a passion. OS/2 didn't seem all that bad though I still prefer my AmigaDOS. 🙂
Under 2.1, my Quantum 1.8GB drive would work funky in ASYNC SCSI transfer mode so I switched to SYNC mode and all was fine. When I popped 3.1 in my 3000, the system would sit there during boot with the SCSI LED on. After a period of time, it'd finally…

#A4000 keyboard & A3000
Message #157383
Actually, I haven't tried it yet. I'm waiting until my 3000's keyboard finally croaks. Some of the keys squeek. I thought the mouse was the only thing that could do that. 🙂 Daniel J. McCoy // CIS – 73742,3072 AP Engaged! \X/ Render 'till ya drop!

Thanks for the internet address. I've been looking for the article at work but no luck so far. The Amiga! Rodney Dangerfield of the computing industry! Dan Daniel J. McCoy // CIS – 73742,3072 AP Engaged! \X/ Render 'till ya drop!
Wait a minute… You mean to tell me that WindowsNT limits the filename length even on systems NOT 486 based running MS-DOS?! I feel sick! Daniel J. McCoy // CIS – 73742,3072 AP Engaged! \X/ Render 'till ya drop!
You can use a 4000 keyboard into a 3000 using a PS2 keyboard adapter sold at most clone shops. I bought mine through Redmond Cable but haven't used it yet. My 3000 keyboard still works but squeaks now and then. 🙂 Daniel J. McCoy // CIS – 73742,3072 AP Engaged!…
I'd love to write to this Robert Cringely to express my disatisfaction of having to deal with systems with so called "fast" CPUs in place of custom chips, not to mention other hardware oddities that shouldn't exist in today's computing industry. Dan Who hates his 486DX2/66 with 8MB and would…
Toaster Oven Experience?
Message #155172
My 3000 is overstuffed and getting too warm for my tastes. Does anyone out there have any experiences, good or bad, with the Toaster Oven tower chassis for the 3000/4000? Does it look good and not necessarily a hack-looking thing? Thanks a million, Dan Wanting to cool his 3000s inards…
I've got one question about your 060 board. Will it fit in a 3000? Please say "YES!". 🙂 Thanks, Dan Daniel J. McCoy // CIS – 73742,3072 AP Engaged! \X/ Render 'till ya drop!
Q:LW 3.2 and Debundle
Message #83866
I understand us Toaster owners will be getting LightWave 3.2 free. Will this be the debundled version or will it still rely on the Toaster and we'll have to order the debundled version separately? Just curious to see if I should lower my credit card balance enough to cover the…
Hey! What a neat idea! Uploading attribute files for the Essence textures. 🙂 There just isn't enough time in the day to play with all these applications! Dan Daniel J. McCoy // CIS – 73742,3072 AP Engaged! \X/ Render 'till ya drop!
Creative Comp has Amigas
Message #151047
I was thinking it all out but location was certainly up there. I live in an area where I could go 15-20 miles in any direction outside of Granada Hills and Santa Monica without a dealer close by. Burbank would probably be ideal considering the market I would be gearing…
re: LA being a hot bed for Amiga stores And there was room for more. 🙂 Before the latest Commodore fiasco, I was heavily thinking of opening up my own dealership. Now I'm in wait and see mode… The trick is finding a local dealer that fits you. Daniel J.…
#Creative Computers
Message #149434
KJ can certainly service Amigas. It's monitors, printers and those types of things that they'll refer you to someone else. Two friends of mine worked for TS a few years back. They've told me lots of horror stories. On a local BBS, another TS employee has mentioned poor business practices.…
Creative Computers
Message #149433
KJ Computers is located in Granada Hills, CA. I believe thier address is 10815 Zelzah Avenue and can be reached at (818) 366-5305. Creative Computers doesn't have a good reputation in this area and from what I understand, even Amiga distrubuters aren't too fond of them either. Daniel J. McCoy…
Though it's not close to Lawndale (by 40 miles or so), KJ Computers in Granada Hills is still >98% Amiga. They've made it clear that 4000s are no problem to get. 1200s are very hard to find. Everything else is obtainable. They don't keep a massive stock like Creative did…

Can I respond here? As a long time ARexx owner, you bet I'm interested in future versions of ARexx! 🙂 Daniel J. McCoy // CIS – 73742,3072 AP Engaged! \X/ Render 'till ya drop!
Have you ever gone through a period of time where just about everything you do seems to backfire in some way? Lately, I've been posting messages here and there for help only to discover the obvious answer soon after I post the message. This time, a friend clued me in…
#A3000 Ext SCSI Only?
Message #144353
I've got a question someone out there might have the answer to or at least a confirmation that it's OK and works fine. I removed the last SCSI device from the internal SCSI bus in my 3000 leaving three externally mounted SCSI devices going to the SCSI connector on the…
I think you need to send Brian Moats $2.00 or so to cover the cost of the disk and shipping and handling to get the upgrades. Daniel J. McCoy // CIS – 73742,3072 AP Engaged! \X/ Render 'till ya drop!

I'm not sure if there's something that duplicates GUI functions but there's something called AXSH that allows you to do CLI based functions remotely. I'm not sure if it's anywhere on CIS though. If it isn't, I'll get it and upload it. I use it in conjunction with AVMSuite and…
Unless Granada Hills had their area code change, change the (708) to (818). KJ's located at 10815 Zelzah in Granada Hills in a mini-mall next to a western cloths place and close to a Thrifty's. There's also a movie theater, Burger King and a Winchells close by to help narrow…
With this and John Gross's response, that's enough for me to start saving my pennies and perhaps get a few others to do a possible group purchase of a single machine. 🙂 And I do this for a hobby?!
Just rig up one of the 60 machines with a nice serial port interface that would allow you to upload your scene and object files and render away from home. The downside is downloading the finished scenes. 🙂 If I had 60 machines at my disposal at work, I don't…
Just outta curiosity, for those of us that could probably come up with enough cash for a one CPU solution system, how much faster would renders be over a 25MHz 040? I too invision a local dial-up render service (might even like to run my own) not to mention know…
One thing I went through on my 3000/GVP 040 board when installing the 3.0 and 3.1 Toaster software was that the darn install program would tell me it didn't have enough RAM after decompressing a session's worth of disks. To add insult, it wouldn't always strike the same 8 disk…
#Start an Amiga Dealer?
Message #131791
I live in Van Nuys, California. There's Creative Computers in Santa Monica and Lawndale. There's KJ Computers in Granda Hills (used to freeway close thanks to the last earthquake. 🙂 ). There's a few Toaster/Amiga dealers around in both North Hollywood and Burbank. There's also Century Computers down in Orange…
Take a close look at the ad. I think it mentions a magical 50MHz CPU with a MMU which may well be an 030 based GVP board instead of the 40MHz 040 wonder. I'd watch out for Creative Computers… Daniel J. McCoy // CIS – 73742,3072 AP Engaged! \X/ Rendering…
#Start an Amiga Dealer?
