A *VERY* good practice is to disable floppy drive boot within the CMOS setup of your computers. With the current OS's supporting multiple-boot setups, it should be entirely unnecessary to boot from floppies anymore, anyway. When those few occasions occur that require a floppy-drive boot, you can always re-enable floppy…
Well, this is going to require some thought, then. I'm looking to start a new division within the company, to do 3D graphics. However, they're not going to want to spend a couple hundred thou on new equipment. I can get one or two really good PCs, and run R4,…

The reason I ask is that I had problems with solids created in ACAD12 AME. I found that if I turned off the "unify normals" option when importing the mesh, the faces would all be correct. Once the unify normals option had been used, however, it was a lost cause.…

If you're interested, I can E-mail you a project I did which has what you're looking for. It was a glass syringe, with a lettering on it. Using opacity maps is the key. The 3ds file and relevant maps are about 800 Kb. – Michael J Sheldon "Falcon", msheldon@crl.com -…

Thanks Gary. Contrary to all the flak you're getting here, everyone I've talked to seems to think the move to NT is a REALLY good idea. – Michael J Sheldon "Falcon", msheldon@crl.com – When we are planning for posterity, we ought to remember that virtue is not hereditary. Thomas Paine,…

I ran into a way to do this by accident. If you morph an object to an "invisible" material, it retains the shadow-casting properties of the original mesh. IOW, create a duplicate of the object, assign it a 100% transparent material, and use it as a morph target. In my…

The DXFs that I import are all created in AutoCAD AME. Each object comes in separate (I put each solid on a separate layer) While AME solids are created by booleans, and often have separate primitives, before expoting the DXF, you must perform the "solmesh" command, which turns each object…

#Unifying Normals
Message #138054
I have a fairly complex object that I have imported into 3D Studio from a DXF (the object was originally created in AutoCAD AME) Now that it's in, many of the faces are flipped the wrong way, and the "Object Unify" command does not affect them. I have had success…

I would not use Rain-X on CDs. I've seen many cases where it has caused plastics to "fog" after some time. I tried it once on the visor of my motorcycle helmet. At $40 a shot for visors, I won't ever do that again.

#Animator update?
Message #119969
Can anyone tell me if there will be a new version of Animator Pro in the near future? I have been working with it at school, and I plan on doing more animation on my own. However, I feel that this program needs a little work, especially if I'm going…
