Thanks Mark for the information on the Toshiba 3401 and CD-I. I was reviewing my CDROM manual to make sure I understood what Toshiba was trying to say but I am still at a loss. In the specifications section of the instruction manual Toshiba states: Applicable Disc: Red Book, Yellow…
I guess I need a better understanding of just what CD-I is but the drive is a Toshiba 3401. Thanks, – Mike

Is it possible to run CD-I disks on a PC CDROM drive? When I got my CDROM drive (Toshiba 3401) it states in operation manual that the drive is CD-I compatible but I haven't heard how this can be done. Anyone with any ideas??? Thanks, – Mike –

Thanks Rich for the information. Seems like there is so much to consider when selecting a drive it can lead to a state of no decision or possibly wrong decision. This forum (and members like yourself) are the best way of trying to keep it straight. – Mike –
Can you say which Trantor products should be considered for controlling a Toshiba TXM-3401 and a SyDOS 88i? Would love to have SCSI controller AND 4 floppy controller (Intel 82077 or equivalent) AND 2-16550 serial ports AND parallel port all in one PWB. Need the slot space in PC. Are…
Yes, it is a quest we embark upon to seek the elusive; and yet, journey upon waters yet to be explored. Gallant is the deed… In terms of Photo-CD, the ability to read CD-ROMs which have once been written to for initial establishment of photos and not filled, then the…
Thanks for the info. Without your comments I probably would have bought a drive that was marginal with regards to Photo-CD. Appreciate the help – Mike –
Sorry Paul, I didn't ask about the interface. Certainly SCSI-2 would be the ideal. Probably should have asked about the controller card as well, i.e. who's controller, manufacturered by who, available drivers… I'll try and give Toshiba a call next week again and get this clarified, appreciate the ideas. Maybe…
Paul, I called the KIC and received some pretty good help from the guys. I asked if they could provide a FAX of reviewed drives and controller cards, which they weren't able to supply. Would be really neat if you could get a copy of this information and post to…
I called Toshiba earlier this week and they noted that the TXM-3401 wouldn't start shipping until sometime in Feb 93. Sounds like an interesting drive. I'm holding off on my drive purchase until the 3401 comes out. Hope it won't be obscenely expensive… – Mike –
Appreciate the info on the Mitsumi drive but I think I'll hold off until the new drives come out and see how they fair. If I'm going to dump some major dollars I'll go for the gusto and get the fastest drive out there (possibly the Toshiba 3401). – Mike…

Called Toshiba, Chinon, Texel, and Liuski's today to try and put in order who had what and when it would be available. Thought I'd share what I found out… Toshiba's new drive, TXM-3401, has been just announced and Toshiba doesn't expect it to be shipping until February 93. Liuski's (often…
Paul, Not sure if you can help but here goes… I've seen the Photo CD players in stores and noticed several threads talking about using CD-ROM drives as Photo CD players. Question: Where can I get real technical details on what Photo CD is? What it takes to get CD-ROMs…
Chris, One idea, I too have an Adaptec 1522 and called Corel to inquire whether their software would support my card. They said they weren't sure but if I had ASPI4DOS.SYS then for sure it would. Well, being you are running ASPI2DOS.SYS I wonder if Corel SCSI supports it properly.…
