Can anyone help. I bought F/A-18 Intercepter a couple of days ago and I'm stuck. I can't seem to qualify for active duty, even though I have landed on the carrier several times. Each time I land, the program just ignores me. Is there any special pattern to be flown to qualify? Thanks, Craig Wolanyk

You have to land from the correct direction – land with the control tower on the RIGHT. You also MUST be stopped by the arresting cables – sailing past them and having the brakes stop you won't work. Also check out AMY REPORT, which is available in AMIGATECH in LIB 3. It's an online magazine with some neat information in it, including some Interceptor information (and a comprehensive review in Amy Report 1.) The filenames are AMRP01.ARC, AMRP02.ARC, and AMRP03.ARC. I think you'll find them worth the downloading time. If not yell at me. (GRIN).

Craig, Landings during qualification MUST be done using the arrestor hook, hitting the arrestor line area, and during the qualification mission. Landing using just the brakes won't get you the qualification. You also must land from the South. The easiest method I've found is to launch, cut left ten degrees, then loop until inverted. Fly inverted back over the carrier slowly gaining altitude until you're about 9000 feet. Continue at that altitude until you're about five miles away, then finish the loop. YOu should be almost perfectly lined up. Aim for the deck, and when you're about to land, chop throttle to 50%, gear down, arrestor hook down, then hit the brakes. Aim for the grey area on the deck. You should stop rather abrubtly if you hit the lines correctly. Cut your engines. You SHOULD now be qualified. Doug

It took me about 15 tries to qualify myself. I thought I was doing everthing right. I would fly inverted over the carrier and then come around and land. I finally qualified after CIRCLING around the carrier. I don't know why it wouldn't work the other way. Tim BURFord

Tim, Sounds like you were hitting the carrier correctly, just from the wrong direction. The 'Loop and Land' is the quickest I know of, but circling will work. There IS a minimum time you have to be aloft, or so it seems. I just ran through it as quickly as I could and failed the qualify. The limit seems to be about 45 seconds. Anything shorter and you don't qualify. Doug
