(In my best Jerry Lewis voice) Gaaaaaaaarrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyy! OH-oh, Garrrrrryyyyyyyy! Can you tell me why when I try to load the BRNBRICK.CEL file included with 3DS into AAP as a palette (so as I can also load it as a CEL and edit its colors), I get the message: Can't load "E:\3DS\MAPS\BRNBRICK.CEL". File is not correct type. ??? I can load a CEL I've created, and certain 3DS-included CELs, but not most. What's the deal? (By the way, it'd be nice if ANICONV and ANIPLAY would load CELs, as well.) Thanks, Dave

Gee Dave, I can load all the cel's in the 3DS\MAPS directory into my version of AAP. Perhaps you have some corrupted files? – G

[A [A/exit Hmmm. Okay, I'll try copying off my CDROM. Here's another one for you: I just got this: was trying to Create/Face/Build. have 108 objects, 41,82 vertices, 74,753 faces, 3 lights, 7 cameras. Memory free: 29,112k, used: 11,540k. Swap & Page faults: 0. I got the message: Not enough RAM for this operation. 29 megs is not enough to construct one little face? (Thanks for the quick response!) Dave

It sounds like you were trying to add a face to an object that already had reached it's max limit of 64K faces. – G

Nope, can't be. Impossible. I mean, it's a building wall, and that means it would be taking up over 80% of all the faces in my file and I KNOW that that is not the case. I also tried the load palette from CEL deal with the BRNBRICK.CEL on the CDROM, then I tried it from our other copy of 3DS, then I reinstalled 3DS and tried it again, and no luck. Of the CELs which get installed by 3DS in the MAPS dir, I started at the top, and went down the list. From 3D.CEL (the first) to BLUCHINA.CEL, only the following would load as CEL palettes: 3DS.CEL, BLUCHINA.CEL. 3D.CEL, APE.CEL, AQUR*.CEL all gave the "file is not correct type" message. They all will load AS CELs, but not as palettes. Hmmmmm. Dave

I didn't realize that you were trying to load old Animator 1.0 cels as PALETTE's in AA Pro. There was a change in the palette chunk of the .cel format between Animator and AA Pro because the old AA .cel files weren't animated. When Jim added the delta format, it had to deal with a palette per frame. So, you can't load an old AA cel AS A PALETTE into AA Pro. If you want the palette from the cel, you can load the cel as a cel and then set the Palette mode to All and select the Use Cel option in the Palette panel. – G

Ah-HA! I KNEW there had to be an explanation! I suppose I could also load the CEL into AA and save the palette. Thanks Gary. Also, re the 3DS Face/Build problem, when I left 3DS and came back & reloaded the mesh file, I had no problem creating the faces. Guess it just had some little memory-tracking burp. Thanks, Dave

You can't simply load the cel into AniPro and then save the palette. A frame's palette is not changed by loading a cel. You'd have to first to a Use Cel with the All button on in the Palette panel. What might be easier is to load the cel and then resave it in AniPro. This should update it. – Jack

Dave: Maybe I'm missing something on your question (nothing new for me!), but why are you trying to load a cel as a palette? Why can't you just load it as a cel and then adjust the pallette from there? Confused
