Hi Tom, I`m a owner of the Winner 2000Pro/X 8MB. I want to use 3D-Studio with the highest resolution 1600×1200 (true-color). My ADI – Driver works only with 1280 X 1024 (256). The vesa drivers in the vibrant-driver work only with the low resolution. Thanks for help

Hi Thiemo, Your 2000PRO/X-8 should run with 3DS at the resolutions that you want. You should first test the resolution using the DOS program called winsetup ("win" here comes from "Winner" <g>). So, use winsetup and configure a 1600×1200 resolution with 32 bpp and the highest refresh rate that your monitor can accept (the board will do up to an 85 Hz refresh rate at the resolution). Note the x and y resolution values, the bpp value, and the refresh rate. Then edit the ELSAADI.PRM file located in the ADI driver's directory. Add the following lines to the file: (I will use a refresh rate of 85 Hz here) -xres 1600 -yres 1200 -bpp 32 -hz 85 -xres_rnd 1600 -yres_rnd 1200 -bpp_rnd 32 -hz_rnd 85 Of course you need to configure 3DS to use the ADI driver for display and render. If you have any questions about the "xres" values and the ELSAADI.PRM file, then please refer to the manual. You can find "xres" and "elsaadi.prm" in the index. That will then point you to more specific information. Of course if you have further questions, feel free to send email, or even better, come visit us in the ELSA compuserve forum, GO ELSA. Sincerely, Tom

Although the card must service the VESA mode in 1280×1024 in TrueColor itisn't possible. For 3DS its enough color for working… but nevertheless I mentioned it just in ELSA Forum here in CIS. I hope we will get an inline vibrant driver in the next future, also we will have an great advantage with 3D MAX under WinNT, because the driver here from ELSA works very well. Sorry I knew this don't help you but so is life … 😉 … – Tom

Hi Tom, Did you get your 8MB 2000PRO/X working with the ADI driver that comes with the board?? I've asked our supporters to try this out specifically on an 8MB board. There should be support for the board in the inline drivers in the future. Exactly what form that will take is not yet certain. Do you use the board under NT as well? If you do, then how do you like it for NT? Just curious. 🙂 Sincerely, Tom

Hi Tom, << Did you get your 8MB 2000PRO/X working with the ADI driver that comes with the board?? I've asked our supporters to try this out specifically on an 8MB board. >> I tried it and it worked. But it was too slow. My older ATI Mach32 was faster with the inline vibrant driver than the new ELSA winnerPro/X-8 with ADI. << There should be support for the board in the inline drivers in the future. Exactly what form that will take is not yet certain. >> I uploaded the new vibrant driver 1.0.8 C1 and I tried the generic S3-968 driver, but it didn't work. I always get the message that I haven't enough memory on the card. Hmm … is 8 MB not enough ? <g> Nevertheless I hope the generic driver will work in the next release. The vibrant drivers 1.0.8 are still in beta-release as I can see. Do you know whether in the final release this bug is fixed ? The ELSA Gloria ist supported but not the Winner Pro/X . The "only" difference is the GLINT chip. I mean it must be an "easy" job to adapt the driver for the Pro/X too, because half of the job is done. I'm wrong ? << Do you use the board under NT as well? If you do, then how do you like it for NT? Just curious. 🙂 >> Under WindowsNT the card works excellent, no problems, brilliant display. I'm happy that 3DS-MAX will work under NT , so I will have an good basis for my work. Sincerely, Tom

This is going to sound really stupid, but try decreasing the refresh rate at whatever resolution you are running 3ds in and see if that helps. I have an ATI Mach 64, and if I set the refresh rate above 60Hz, I get an error message the Bios doesn't support that video mode. Strange. LAM

Hi Tom, The generic S3-968 should support the 2000PRO/X-4. I have not tried the 8MB card myself. We have tried the GLoria-8 with the GLoria-4 in-line driver entry and we get the same error message as you do with your WINNER 2000/PRO-8, not enough memory. Regardless, we are working to get direct support for the boards into the in-line drivers. When you have an 8MB board, you would like to use all the resolutions available. 🙂 BTW, you can help by contacting your local Autodesk office and requesting support for the WINNER 2000/PRO-8. Sincerely, Tom
