I use FileX for editing. AZap is another good program. The AmigaDOS Join command will ram two files together. I wrote a program that cuts segments out of files called "Slice" I think it is on Fred Fish 939. Maybe not. If someone wants it I can give it to…
You need to put the Kickstart 2.04 file in the DEVS: directory. There is a file somewhere on the 2.04 A3000 install disk to do this. If you don't have this disk with your 2.04 set, you may be SOL. I have this disk. Another option is to buy the…
RAL Lake, The earliest 3000's used special ROMS, and what was called SuperKickStart. This was so C= could finish the 2.x OS after starting to sell the hardware. It is possible (I believe, my 3000 had the 2.x ROMS when I bought it) to replace the ROMS in your machine…
George, The latest number I have for the company that took over support for microBotics is (214) 644-0003. This worked for me right after I bought the MBX 1200z. They sent out a replacement software disk with their memory test program on it. Hope this helps, Rob Hays

I Just bought an older 3000 and am trying to install WB 2.04. But it won't even boot from floppy 2.04. I have the original WBench stuff and it came with a kickstart disk. Not even my 500 uses one of these. Can I update the rom, or is it…

I Just bought a 3000. It is an older version with WorkBench version36.68 and kickstart36.143. My question is haw do I put Workbench 2.04 on the HardDrive. When I try to boot from 2.04 floppy I get an error. Is it possible that the 3000 has 1.3 roms? Ive tried…
Bob, Thanks, yes I did find out about sending internet e-mail a bit later. Did send it and got a message back. george
George – You can send internet messages on CIS just go mail and check the help. The address I gave is (I'm pretty sure) the one you would use at the 'To:' prompt (i.e. you precede the internet address 'jdow@bix.com' with 'INTERNET:'). Of course there is a cost to send…
Bob, Thanks for the info. Yes, the number for microbotics that i was reffering to is 214 437-5330 which is no longer in service. Sounds like i do need to get in touch with Joanne Dow, but i am not on internet. Could you please therefore find out for me…

Bob, Sorry to bud in, i'm new here. How can I get in touch with microbotics? I called the tel that is on the directions, but that's not a working number anymore. i would appreciate any help. thanks george
I suspect that the use of the word "hexadecimal" is misleading; I imagine your files are in binary and you want to EDIT them in hexadecimal. [Hey, I could have this wrong; you might have some sort of "hexadecimal dump as ASCII text" file that you want to edit. But…

I need to edit some hexdecimal files for a MIDI drver project. Any suggestions on a text editor that can do this? . From Great Minds Come Small Things. RAL . And we all know big things come in little packages!
Yes CBM UK are still selling the 3.1 native developers kit. You get the includes/autodocs and some other documentation like changes made to each subsystem. PCMCIA for 1200/600 as well :->. Kept me busy for a couple of days. It costs 23 pounds from CBM UK, haven't got the address…

Jim Just thought I would drop you a line. Should be getting an A1200 (second hand) in the next week or two, so I should be able to play around with AGA. If I can I will try to fix the Amiga Real Time code to work on better machines…

Ok, I thought that I had mentioned that if you were not using C= scsi card that you would have to change the tooltype in HDToolBox. I know that I have mentioned that several times in just the last couple of week here but maybe not to you. Glad to…
I also needed to use another driver for my controller and after changing a tooltype in the HDtool icon info. (SCSI.device=rtScsiDisk.device) I was able to install the new file system! Thanks for the info.
Phillip; >tired in the dark Yea, we ALL have experience with those sorts of times. >put the fastfilesystem on the drive if you needed to boot up in 1.3. That could well be a disaster. You really should never attempt to access an HD with a filesystem of an older…
PLEASE break your messages up into paragraph type chunks… they are very hard to read as one continous block. To update the filesystem on the disk, run HDToolBox. Select the drive from the scrolling list (if necessary — it will probably already be selected). Select "partition drive". Select "advanced options".…
Helps explain their excellent compliance (plus JDOW of course). -bill
I am sorry about the lack of formatting. But I was really tired and using a portable in the dark (we had a power cut). So I couldn't even edit anything because I was using the online editor. I am using the online editor now. But I am making a…

Well I'm back. I got ahold of a workbench 2.1 install disc tried to install my workbench and still have the old file system on the hard drive! Remember me I'm the one who had a HD originally installed with 1.3 and updated the rom to 2.0 and copied 2.04…
Microbotics was also heavily involved in coming up with the RDB spec, btw. andy
Bill – I believe that the Microbotics' (copyrighted but freeware) RDPrep is still current. As far as I know, latest RDPrep is v3.91 and latest RDPrepX (the low level executable for RDPrep) is at v2.96 (just released). However, IMHO, Joanne Dow (jdow@bix.com – perhaps CIS too) would be the best…
Hi, Phill! Sorry for the delay in the response. I had three exams this week — two hard ones on the same day! 😉 But it's spring break now, and I actually don't have any papers to write! Yahoo! >> The only person here that is ALLOWED to use compuserve…
Phil; RDPrep (that is C= RDPrep anyway) was a 1.3 program but should not be used with later versions of the OS (not really sure it would even work anyway). I do not believe that RDPrep actually created what is called an RDB though it did write a file system…

The rigid disk block (RDB) is a standard that CBM came up with for partitioning the disk and storing the file system on. Befire RDB you couldn't boot a partition unless it used a file system that was in kickstart. The all happened at the time of OS1.3. With OS1.3…
Actually, I haven't had much time to read my messages lately anyway. The only person here that is ALLOWED to use compuserve is now off work, so I cannot pretend that the phone calls are his :-(. Anyway, how is it going. Have you made any progress? Have you also…

Had another idea, using the blitter you could have a tripple buffer display, displaying one, drawing one, clearing one. That may iron out some speed problems. Or you could draw the screen with the processor and calculate the maths using the blitter/copper/FPU (brain melted).
Officially it's called the FX chip, but the name on the chip was (alledgedly) Mario. The polygon fill that I (badly) described is completely different from the way the book works. For a start you need to be working with convex polygons (internal angles less than 180 degrees). Then you…

If I remember correctly the polygon fill doesn't use the blitter line draw which might speed the process up on a slower machine. Don't forget of course that you won't just be drawing polygons anyway. The rest of the code is going to be just as important, and if you…

Unfortunately that is probably what you will have to do, try to make it system friendly though. There is a book (I think called amiga 3d graphics), printed in the UK that has details on fast filled vectors. I haven't tried any of it yet (I wish I had the…

Jim; I'll second that – I've been waiting for one for a long time (and even considering coding one myself – not that I don't already have enough stuff to do )
Jim, hang in there. I'd pay money for a good Battletech game, as would my sister.
Right, that's what I'm hoping that DisplayInfo.Resolution turns out to be. Good luck! DJ On AP from Queens, the thrill and excitement of the Big Apple Where the ice cream truck plays Helter Skelter …
Werner – It works! I directly set RastPort.AreaInfo and RastPort.TmpRas, then made your changes (put RastPort back in a1 before every lib call), and it works. The only problem is…I only seem to be getting ~160 polygons per second with this very simple program on my A4000/040 with 18MB RAM…not…

Jim, I just tested your code and, of course, the display routine crashes the system. This is because you are forgetting to re-load the RastPort into a1 on every library call – remember, a1 will mostly contain crap after a call. This is how your display routine should look like:…
