Vic, Yep, I did mistate a few facts . I just reviewed the lawsuit files, and sure enough, selective memory strikes again. However, it still appears to me that the only people who really lost in this deal are all of us who use ARC.
Dave, I believe you're mistating the facts. According to 'official' SEA announcements over in IBMSW, the suit was based on the claim that Phil Katz used some of the original SEA code….not that he had a program which extracted ARC files.
Chris, a new person from C-Ltd, Fred, is actively answering questions in the C-Ltd forum – if addressed to the C-Ltd id (do a rtn right now and you should see some of his answers) and is, in my opinion, much more helpful then Charlie usually was. Ron

Sounds like the problem with… Uhh I can't remember it name (Twin Maybe?) but it ran all the templates for Lotus 123 etc but did so faster and cost 1/5 the price. That should be legal right? Lots of companies do reverse eng. Its not a crime.

If you used the old copy program to move some files it clears out the pure bit – your best bet is to recopy from the 1.3 disk with the new copy. Ron

On Usenet the Amiga groups have all standardized on ZOO. It is litigation free, and isn't shareware. I've been trying to convince others that it is the only rational route to take for the IBMPC as well but without much impact yet.

You can do the same preservation with ARC if you run MAKEARC on the files first – and the user has no need for an extra depacker. The same is true of ZOO. It makes it very difficult for us if we have to have so many depackers. Betty
