>>One thing for sure is that the release of Lightwave on the PC will better the entire market, and possibly turn it on it's ear Agreed. >>the $600 Lightwave will be competing directly with the $3000 3DS Ahem. You mean the $995 vs $2995; those are the_list_prices (not street) I've…

Our West Coast office has made a little demo up using LOTUS Screen Cam, which they want to "tweak". Does anyone know of a format converter which could transfer the Screen Can movie into a more standard format (like .FLC or .AVI) that I could edit with my animation software.…
Sounds like you've got a more direct route into ST3 than I do. I've had no luck going straight in. I'm on a GUS, and the order of loading samples in ST3 seems to be really critical, later samples sometimes corrupt older ones. Sometimes not. Really screwy. So I load…

Thanks, Ian! I'll check it out today.
Hi Geoffrey, Why don't you use Modex? Of cause, drawing the pixels is slower, but you can use the multiple bitplane-writes to speed up the Clear-Page-Mechanism up to 4 times. And you can use tripple-buffering (paging) for flicker-free animation. I think it's worth the approach. By the way, I wouldn't…
Hi folks, I just discovered the A-flag.. but don't have a cpu-reference and don't know when the A-flag is set or reset. If you know anything about this mystery flag please reply. Maybe I can speed up a lot of my algorithms… SUBMiSSiVE
I've been using Screamtracker to create .MODs, I was wondering if anyone knows if ST3 will allow the user to record in real time instead of inputting the notes and figuring out the exact timing for them. A similar MOD editor, MMEDIT allows you to do this but I haven't…
I've been working with SCREAMTRACKER 3.01, I was wondering if anyone else out there uses this program and if they have any tips for creating samples or know of any programs that do. Currently I record the sample in CTWAVE for Windows, then convert it to a .VOC using the…

Jeff, I'm sick of posting this stuff in the "irony" thread. Let's start our own thread for this "public demo" group, even if it does just turn out to be the two of us. You'll note I've already done this. > Yes, exactly, I fiqure the extra calcs on a…
Jeff, BORDERS? Where the heck are you? The only Border's Books I know of is in Dallas. Is that where you are? I live in Garland, myself. As for the rest of your message, allow me to do som off-line composition and I'll let you know about the Wu algorithm.…

I dislike it intensely, as I do most 4GLs. The problem is that it's very easy for me to think up a problem that outside the domain they're designed to solve. When that happens (and it usually happens when I'm trying to learn the stupid things) they just break down…
Fred > Actually, you only have to project the poly turnpoints on the screen, right? From there on it's just Bresenham lines and fill algorithms, do you agree? < Yes, exactly, I fiqure the extra calcs on a few points (for aspect adjustments) would be quicker than the slower pixel…

So since A:M doesn't have particles, I could animate one small sphere, save the motion library, insert a lot of spheres into the scene, apply the motion with variations in timing, and get the same effect, COOL!!

It's not hard to do a rippling flag.. in fact, there's one as an example in the 3DS example meshes. As I recall, that one isn't great, but is old. I think there is an IPAS that lets you do that with about the same ease that you described in…

Jim, the splashing water are particles. They explode a little and the gravity brings them down again very quick. The particles are small transparent spheres. Particles are a great thing. You can use them for so many things! I did the anim at TV resolution and the whole thing (the…

Chris, Well, dude, just jump in any time with some code. I'll be posting my stuff here as it finishes, so you'll get to see that regardless. All together, we could be the "public demo team", so tell me anything you think might be interesting. Actually, I find most demo…
Jeff, I'd be most happy to look at your code. Your 320×200 calculations sound like they'd work rather well. Yeah, I do the 256X+64X=320X trick myself, it's much faster than doing the multiply. I haven't worked on poly routines yet, though I do know in theory how they should work.…
Chris, Yeah, voxels (in the first part of Airframe). Some people call it that, though I think that's kinda stretching the definition of "voxels" a bit. Really, I'd call it a height field. And, yeah, 62K is major-league impressive for what that demo does, isn't it? Oh well, someday I…

#781 .AVI on a Mac? Message #812
Hi Charlie, Microsoft's Video for Windows Developers Kit contains a Mac floppy which has a converter utility on it. This reads in the playback information from the AVI file and makes a Mac resource, essentially imitating a Mac QuickTime file. Although I haven't gotten hands-on with this utility, there is…

John, I actually don't care which program is better in the future. I will continue to use which ever better fits the particular project I am working on. If r5 blows Lightwave away, great. Heck, if Real 3D becomes the PC equivalent of Power Animator, fantastic. I will use what…

Two things come to mind.. the special naming in the DEF file, then you must copy it to the \WINDOWS directory as a .SCR file, and restart Windows for it to be recognized. That naming in the DEF requirs "SCRNSAVE:" and looks like: DESCRIPTION 'SCRNSAVE : Your name here'
