Brenda, the toshiba drive needs a special command to read XA disks. Look out in the Windows NT forum here on CompuServe (i think it's GO WINNT). There should be a driver there for the Toshiba drives enabling readback of XA disks. Sincerely Peter

Carl, Based on *very* limited experience, the pthalocyanine disks are the ones my Toshiba 3401's won't read, but of course that could be a function of the way they were made and not the medium. Any generalizations to be made? John

If you stick a Mac application on an ISO9660 CD, Macs won't recognize them as applications. The ISO9660 format does not have any provisions for properly storing the resource fork, file creator, and file type. The resource fork & file type are the biggest problems… without them you can't have…

I have a problem,,,,I own a Mitsumi quad and my friend has a writable CD ROM. He can burn stuff for me, but the problem is that I can not read the 74minute CD's on my Mitsumi, and the 63minute ones cost more…Does anyone know of a driver or something…
You may also want to consider Spira from Moniker. It offers drive letter access from any application, just like MO or CDROM, but gives you read and write access to CD-ROM and CD-R discs. You can then use File Manager or your favorite backup application for your backups. Check out…
I have been using the Cdrom (Pinnacle) for backups for three months now. It is fast and easy, espcially with the Incat easybackup software. I tell you I rarely use my Tape backup at this point, and for software suppport those guys at incat are great. Peter

Which one of the many CD Writers have you used and recommend, especially for ease of use and price and network software compatibility? We have a tape backup but need to archive certain files for fast retrievel and we are considering MO drive or CDROM drive.

I think I've located an easy to install 2nd hard disk drive to write CD-Rs from. Anyone have any experience with the Maxor 7850AV drive? It's an 850 meg drive, IDE, and fast enough.
A friend of mine who has lived in New York for 40 years sees it this way: "If you're never going back to that restaurant, don't bother to tip at all." I'm not sure I want to extrapolate that to Pinnacle, however…

John… The "gold" CD-R disks are the pthalocyanine dye. It is supposed to have an archieval life of 100 years. The "green" CD-R disks are the cyanine dye and said to have an archieval life of only 20 years. They cost the same from my suppliers so I have gone…
