Edward 3DSr3 can be slower when rendering FLC files if you don't use the custom palette option. FLC's must be converted from the internal 48 bit color space to 8 bit and this takes a few seconds per frame. TedB
#67428 CAD 3D Modeling Message #67494
From: Ted Boardman Autodesk Software Forum · Customer Service November 21, 1993 6:10 AM
Contact an AutoCAD dealer and ask about Softdesk.s Autoarchitect, ASG, and/or Ketiv's architectural add-ons. Post your message over in the ACAD forum as well.
#Document Symbols Message #67414
From: Ted Boardman Autodesk Software Forum · Education Issues November 20, 1993 2:14 PM
I'm uploading a GIF file (640×480) called SYMB.GIF with three sample symbols that could be used in all forms of documentation to indicate the reader to the subject matter and degree of difficulty. The symbols should be standard, easy to print and copy on all forms of documentation, and clear…
#67360 #Autodesk 3D Studio Message #67375
From: Ted Boardman Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio November 20, 1993 6:36 AM
Dave A possibility might be that there is an active selection set of vertices in the model which can be very hard to see on some screens. When a Modify/Vertex/Move command is used only the selection set gets acted upon. Try Display/Geometry/Vert ticks and see if some of the vertices…
#66399 #Wacom driver Message #66520
From: Ted Boardman Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk Animator November 15, 1993 5:34 AM
Tim Just load the supplied drivers then go to the configuration option (under Extras pull-down, I think) and tell AAPro you're using the Wacom. The pressure sensitive function only works with the spray tool but it very nice to draw with. If you have trouble, delete the AA.CFG file in…
#64846 #Standard symbols Message #64973
From: Ted Boardman Autodesk Software Forum · Education Issues November 4, 1993 4:43 AM
Todd The symbols would be developed for training materials initially within the ATC/LSG system, I believe, so wouldn't pertain to NAAUG functions for now. I was using that as an example only and we'd have to check with Autodesk on how "public" they would be. That said, the symbols would…
#Standard symbols Message #64835
From: Ted Boardman Autodesk Software Forum · Education Issues November 3, 1993 7:38 AM
Hi everyone, During AU the most frequent complaint was that either a class/session was too basic or too advanced. The class descriptions seldom indicated the level of difficulty. I discussed this with Ken Flesher and we joked that symbols similar to those at ski areas would be helpful. Wayne H.…
#63877 R3 Render Message #63884
PMJI, The place is The Charles Hotel, 1 Bennett St. Cambridge. I believe it is at 9 am but you can call Tamar at Wentworth 617.442.9010 x376 if Mark doesn't correct me by Friday.
Anyone from any ATC can attend a Partners Program Training whether they are full or part time instructors. There are others who are qualified under the Learning Systems Group guidelines as well and the ATC Manager should have this info from annual meeting materials and/or the newsletter. These PPT's are…
#62674 3D Studio 3 training Message #62679
If you work for an ATC then they are bound by contract to send someone to a PPT session of which there have been serveral 3DSr3 sessions around the country lately. Check with the ATC manager and log onto the ATC forum and find the next available opening. If you…

Where are you located? There are a few folks here from the ATC system who specialize in 3DS training and maybe we can steer you to some training.
#62272 3DS NAAUG committee Message #62488
Greg Thanks! Spare time is what I had when I was still designing houses and Post and Beam frames in New England. Now I'm having fun.

At the North American Autodesk User Group 3DS breakout session at Autodesk University in SF this week a steering commitee was elected to determine what NAAUG can do to help 3DS User Groups around the world organize and share resources. At some point in time(not yet, though) we will want…
#61590 New BOOK 3D Studio Message #61817
Congratulations on the book! Looked for you and Mark at AdeskU but guess you didn't make it up? Miller Freeman did a very good job, IMHO. Of course there were some problems with scheduling, hardware but from all I saw it was successful. See you sometime
Greg, et al You would have been reprimanded for any less! Can't wait to see the result.
#60670 Job Oppurtunity Message #60704

Bryce Aha, now I get it. I'm in New Hampshire so you don't have to explain dragging people into the 20th Century to me. I talked with Randy Timo at Visual Circuits yesterday and mentioned that he should check for activity here on the forum so he can answer questions…

Bryce The board is completely self contained and uses Visual Circuits own chipset and compression algorithms as far as I know. I've had no configuration problems or conflicts in my system but it's a pretty basic setup. It's the machine I take on the road for 3DS and Autocad training…

Greg I've been using the VTV-2000 for quite a while for tests and the results can be very good if you're careful. The images are still prone to tearing if you try to change too many pixels. I have used it for some fly-bys of post and beam frames, which…

#54860 #3d Studio Training Message #54924
Mark It seems I saw a message on this forum a week or so ago that someone was selling copies which had been bumped up to Beta to hold much of the quality. I'd have to go VHS to VHS and the tape would lose a lot. It should be…

Ara You could try making the material for the stained glass self illuminating and then adjust the transparency to change "brightness". Just a thought. TedB
#53843 Elaborate windows ? Message #53926
It is important when working efficiently with 3DS to keep geometry to a minimum. Often two seperate models will be necessary, one with no detail for long shots and one with detail for close-ups. Use Video Post to fade from one to the other as you move in. the technique…

PK If memory serves me right….., never mind the jokes you guys, I'd say the screen was 16'-18' diagonal and the projection was two Sony three beam units each back projecting a seperate field, I presume. Does anyone know how the focused and sync'd those? It really was a great…

Gary This is a public message board so be careful about giving out those important numbers. Of course, if your card is like mine it won't do anyone much good. TedB
#52653 Printing in 3DStudio Message #52684
Dave I saw the Primera printer and also thought it was a good deal for the quality. My understanding was that a 100 print cartridge/paper stack was $250. What I didn't think to ask is if the cartridge was usable for everyday printing or if it could be swapped in…
#51187 #Archit.Walkthroughs Message #51253
Greg I will be sure to give a presentation of my intelligence after a few cold ones in Gambits.rool. TedB
Rachel There is a program available somewhere on CIS called VGACAP which works quite well for 3DS screen captures. I've had it quite a while so can't remember which forum it's in so you'll have to do a search. TedB
#51008 #Archit.Walkthroughs Message #51078
Greg Sign me up for that club as long as you don't tell the AIA enforcement goons that I'm not really an architect. (No education to overcome). TedB
Min I don't know of any Multimedia Training Centers in ND but you can try calling Autodesk at 800.445.5415 to see what is closest to you. Good Luck and have fun with 3DS. TedB
Ingo The CIS get together will be at the Marriott Hotel in the "Gambits" bar on Sunday night as far as I know. It's very close to the other hotels and the convention center so you won't have any trouble finding it. A copy of any 3DS magazines from Germany…
John My suggestion would be to contact your nearest Autodesk Multimedia Training Center (call Autodesk for a listing) and get enrolled in a 3DS class and take a ton of notes. Is your session going to be a full semester course for students or a short term intensive course, ie…
Ingo Yes, on Sunday night at the Marriot. See you there. TedB
Phil Have you looked into PixoFoto. It's a powerful DOS paint package. Call Clive Liu at 415.323.6592. TedB
