Yes, this is a situation that is controlled by the DXF-ARC-DEGREES variable in the 3DS SET file. The default is set to 10 degrees, which means that a circle would come in with 36 segments. A 15 degree arc would come in with 1 or two segments. Just change this…
It sounds like you might be having problems with your surface normals as created in AutoCAD. Try mapping a 2 sided material onto the problem objects and see if that cures it. If so, either use 2-sided materials or fix the normals which are flipped….

3d plines are not problem, they will translate. Even 2d closed polylines and solids will translate as flat 3d surfaces.
