Brian, We have an immediate need for reliable animation playback code that can be used in Windows MM applications. Do you know of any third party developers that might have a solution?? I absolutely hate to have to got to a Video for Windows solution. It makes the 3DS animations…
Brian, Do you have any time tables as to when we might see a revised .flc player routine for windows? Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Andrew McClary Graphic Alchemy Productions, Inc.
Brain, Both myself and I am sure a lot of other MM programers would be interested in paying quite a lot for a good windows player that works and can be controlled well. We also did some checks on a few other computers last night. We found that fsome of…
Brian, Thanks for the response but thats not the problem. I can take the flic and convert it into an avi (using the flics pallet) and get playback without flash. The probelm is that the Autodesk DLL seems to always force a pallet change without checking to see if it…
help aaplay.vbx problem!
Message #99655
There is a problem with the way the aaplay.vbx and .dll deals with pallets in windows. It always shifts the pallet to a different pallet than the one assigned in animator pro and different from any single frame extracted from the animation. Does anyone know how this can be corrected?…
Let me know if you get that BBS going. I will make the call. Andrew Graphic Alchemy Productions Ft. Lauderdale
Gary, Can you put me on your mailing list for your new IPAS catalog. Since we moved our studio, I never seem to get all my good "junk" mail. Graphic Alchemy Productions, Inc. 2121 W. Oakland Park Blvd. Suite 152 Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309 Thanks, Andrew McClary President / Animator
Reply to inquiry regarding animators: I am the owner and head animator for a small studio in South Florida. Besides lot of experience doing animations for other companies, we have a published CD-ROM that is currently on most software shelves. (Exploring Ancient Architecture-published by Medio Multimedia) We would be interested…
Robert, One problem with your dream. Animations are like a gas, they fill the space that is given them. I worked with Wavefront on a loaded SGI Crimson for a while. I thought I was in heaven. No waiting! So I added a few hundred more vertices, a ray trace,…
Sandy, Can you please send me a copy of the enrty form for the CADDIES. Or you can fax it to us. Graphic Alchemy Productions, Inc. 2121 W. Oakland Park Blvd. Suite 152 Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311 Attn: Andrew McClary Fax number (305) 739-9872. (Not Fax number also is a…
Patrick, Drop me an E-mail note with the specifics.
Jonas, thanks for the reply to my question about vesa drivers for the laptop. After playing around for a while, I was finally able to get it to run under standard VGA and 320×200 rendering mode. I was unable to get it to run in a VESA mode for rendering.…
Add me to that list on info on the metaballs. We have been doing a number of character animations for a project I am working on. I would have loved using metaballs in the modeling. Andrew McClary

We recenlty got a 486 laptop to be able to make presentations and changes at client sites. I didn't have any problem running R2 but I can't get R3 to run because of a "Vesa Error" with the Vibrant drivers. The vesa drivers work fine with R2. When in the…

Rarely used, like new! (Less than 20 hours of time as player only.) SVO-9600 S-VHS Editing Deck with TimeCode Reader/Recorder and RS-422 interface board. Was used only a source deck and never used backup for outputing animations. Frame accurate Editing deck for outputing animations. Paid $3,595.00 Would like to get…
There is a place in Seatle called "Platos Pocket" that we have used and "Spectrum 7" in Indianapolis, but if you check around there are probably a lot more around. Especially since from the other letters in this string seem to indicate that the prices have dropped to around the…
Jeff, at $1800 plus the upgrade costs, one could buy a new copy.
Tom, There are a number of different CD-ROM recorders that are out on the market. They start at around 10k though the prices have been coming down. I don't cut enough CDs to make it worth having one in my studio. Most of my stuff is sent off on DAT…

ATARI IS HIRING
Message #87669
I own a small animation studio in Fort Lauderdale, FL that does some really good stuff. We have been looking towards getting into the game industry in regards to designing and producing 3D animations and graphics. We currently produce animation for educational CD-ROMs and video. (One of our CD-ROM titles…
I have a few models I would be interested in contributing in exchange for your CD-ROM. Would it be possible I could send them to you as E-mail here on CIS? P.S. Are the meshes on your CD-ROM royalty free or are they shareware?
Tim, I have been screwing around with aaPlay.vbx. What I have been dong is saving the first frame as a BMP file using the Video editor that came with Video For Windows. I just load it into a hidden picture control then use in with bitblt. Let me know if…
Jeanne, How are the viewers viewing these stereoscopic images. I might have a few animations that would be cool in this format. Tell me more about the project and commisions.
I would get at least half as a retainer. Also make sure to specify that you are paid upon delivery, not when the case is settled. I still am fighting with a lawyer that doesn't want to pay me till he settles the case.
Nik, I have used Animator Pro and assigned that converted pallet to EVERYTHING from the background bitmaps to all of the flics. There isn't any color cycling. I just need a stable 236 color pallet. With a litle experimentation, it seems that when the .fli is loaded, it doesn't check…
AAPLAY.VBX and Pallets
Message #85344
After playing around a lot with aaplay.vbx in Visual Basic, I have narrowed down the problem with the pallet shift that always occurs as soon as an animation is loaded. (We are trying to eliminate that terible flash that occures in 256 color mode by using only one predefined pallet…
Alan, I haven't had any problems with this. What version of the program do you have? Andrew McClary Graphic Alchemy
Nik, Here are the steps I have been going through. 1) Rendered the animation on "high" in 3ds to create a good pallet for the 3DS model. 2) Used the AAWIN program to "Convert the animation for windows playback" 3) Used Animator Pro to load this converted animation in and…

Flic Pallets and VBX
Message #84192
Brian, The pallet I am using for ALL of the images and .flc's is the one created by the aaWIN convert program which deleted and replaced the first and last 10 colors. There is still a shift in the other colors in the pallet, even though all of my .BMP…
#Flic Pallets and VBX

There seems to be a color shift in the pallets when you play a .flc file using the autodesk Visual Basic control or DLL calls in Wndows. I have spent a lot of time creating a single pallet to avoid color shift and that anoying flash that is seen when…
Is that an upgradable copy od 3DS?
Tim, Can you give a little more specifics on who the company is and what type of animation they are looking for. Andrew
Joseph, Thanks for the help. I will give it a try. I was hoping that there would be an easier way of directing the control to the directory the EXE was executed from. Have you ever gotten the full screen mode to work? It doesn't seem to want to work…
Rick, Thanks for the solution. Here is the one that I finnally found that worked great. Create a radial rainbo pattern like the ones seen on a CD in Animator then make a flic of it rotating in the oposite direction you want the CD to spin. Then make a…
#Modeling a CD?
Message #76874
Has anyone successfully animated a Compact Disc? I know it sounds simple, but I am a perfectionist and want the radial rainbow colors on the disc as it spins, not just a greyed disk spinning. I have tried making the rainbo patterns as a texture map but the colors always…
Rick, 60 degrees is a heat wave after this weekends cold spell of -10 (-60 windchill). Got about 8 inches of snow last night. I guess the Indiana weather is trying to give me a send off. Andrew
Yes, I think you answered it. I was just trying to deside if it would be worth looking at an Exabyte solution, and having someone else actually do the output to D1 or just get an Abacus in-house. At first glance, it seems that the cost of an Abacus would…
VB Control Help
Message #76567
I am trying to make a distributable demo that will play .flc flies and am trying to use the Animation VB Custom control. The problem is setting the animation file name on boot up. It seems the control always wants the drive and directory. The problem comes if the user…
Jerry, What you have said about windows is somewhat true. (Though I am running my Windows machine at 1024×768 at 65k colors and rarely experience speed problems that make me yawn.) The biggest advantage, period, to windows is that you don't have to worry about the hardware they are running…
Jerry, I haven't worked with Toolbook but I have completed commercial stuff with VB. It worked quite well. Any missing components from the boxed product can usually be found in VBs extensive third party add on list. Make sure you get the profesional version if you want to do MM.…
John, Currently, what are you finding that people are charging to output and Exatbyte'ed animation on an Abacus(sp?)? Andrew
I look forward to being back in Fort Lauderdale. Right now it is -4 degrees out side with a wind chill of -60 . We will be moving down the 1st of Febuary. I look forward to attending the users group at its next meeting.
We don't really want to spend the money on a "Preview" device. We trying to bring more commercial work into the studio such as local commercials. Currently most of our work is industrial of geared toward computer playback. The guys I have spoken to so far in the broadcast commercial…
How much are they asking for the machine you just discribed? Is Microns motherboard optimized for the Pentium or is it a 486 re-design? There are a lot of companies selling Pentium systems but they in fact do not use the full power of the Pentiums speed . Something I…

I liked the beir in Bavaria better too. It gets my vote!

John, I've been away for a while so I have missed much of the chatter about the PAR, though I have a copy of its specs which state that it outputs Beta-SP component. Right now my studio is outputing to S-VHS and I am looking for a way to output…
Judy, With 5 frames and 16 colors, your best bet is to sharpen the old stylus and rev up Animator Pro for a little old fashioned freehand animation for those bubbles. It will probably take you less time than playing with it in 3DS. What are you doing this effect…
Thanks, I plan to play with this a little over the next few weeks. Andrew McClary Graphic Alchemy
