Heinz- Maybe I missed the beginning of this thread, but I'd really be interested in your comments on TrueSpace. Particularly the modeller. Is it really as easy and as powerful as it appears in the ads? Thanks, -Mark
DPS Par Article
Message #99121
Alan- Just wanted to let you know I enjoyed your review of the DPS PAR in 3D Artist. Sounds like it's everything that it claims to be. Without having one close-by to look at and play with, reviews like yours really help the rest of us make purchasing decisions. Good…
#It's Cured!!!
Message #99120
Gus- Laurie Steele suggested adding a vesa driver to the autoexec. and sure enough, I'm healed. I must have deleted it when I housecleaned. I don't know why it works, but it does so I'm happy. Thanks again. -Mark
John- Laurie Steele found the problem. I needed to add a VESA driver to my autoexec. I never would have come up with that. I recently added a 486-66 to my network and made that my workstation. In the process, I moved a bunch of stuff (CD Rom, Targa+, etc.)…
Laurie- If you were here I would KISS you. Thankyou thankyou thankyou. I added a vesa driver to my Autoexec and now I can exit just fine. I've fought this for a week now, and I NEVER would have come up with that solution. You're a lifesaver. Thanks again. -…
Gus- Thanks for all of you input on my Mem Alloc Problem. I've tried all that you and others have suggested, along with everything that I can think of and have decided to throw in the proverbial towel. I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll just have to reboot…
Gus- Thanks for the suggestions. I tried using your batch file idea, but the problem is that the SET command in the batch file won't run — I get the Mem Alloc. Error the minute I exit 3DS. I'm completely baffled. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, -Mark
#Mem. Alloc. Error
Message #98364
Gus- If I remember correctly, you are fairly well versed on PharLap and I'm hoping that you can shed some light on a problem I just started having. When exiting out of 3DS Slave Mode, I get: Memory Allocation Error, Cannot load Command, System halted. The program works fine in…
I think that was 3D Artist #10, April 93. My understanding is that the article was reprinted in Computer Graphics World, Feb 94 in a new 3D Tips Section, but I didn't acutally see a copy. You can contact 3D Artist @ 505.982.3532. -Mark

MEM Alloc. Error???
Message #97740
Gary- I understand. I thought maybe it was something simple that others may have encountered and I overlooked. Thanks. -Mark
#MEM Alloc. Error???
Message #97639
Gary- I decided to do a little house-cleaning on my machines and I think I cleaned a little too well. On my 486-33 network machine (No Key) I'm now getting a Memory Allocation Error, Cannot load COMMAND, System Halted error everytime I exit 3DS. I've tried reinstalling 3DS and even…
Steve- Some of the best dust I've seen in an accident recon. was done by Paul Thomas using the Smoke IPAS. Change the colors to your dust color, and he mapped it to a series of spheres that were under the ground and scaled up as the tires passed over…
Harley- If you could tell me a little more about your setup, I'll try and help. Are you using a framebuffer or scan converter, rendering direct to tape or Disk-To-VTR, etc. Do you have the file Sansetup.txt in your \3DS3 dir? It should read EDTP5;THRD0;INIT;STAT;VERS;FRAM:. If you're using a scan…
Stuart- Thanks. I'll check again. Must have just overlooked it. -Mark
Theo- I had the same problem with 2.0. 2.01 or 2.01a fixed it. I was using the 5000 with a BVW75. I remember because it was completly unexplained. I laid part of an animation down, and then restored more rendered frames and began laying the remainder of the animation down.…
Ang, I'd be interested in looking at the info you have too. My fax # is: (405)341-0308. Voice is (405)341-3440. Thanks. -Mark
Dave- I have been using the deck with r3 and have had no problems. If you can describe the problem you're haveing maybe I can help.
Out of curiosity, what do you recommend for authoring under Windows. I'm just beginning the search myself for an authoring package and would like to know any recommendations you might have. Thanks,
Much thanks Kevin. I'll give them a call. I knew they must still be around somewhere because I keep seeing their drives for sale. Thanks again. -Mark
#Texel CDROM
Message #65129
Alan- Are you using the Texel CD Rom drive? If so, do you or anyone else have a number to reach them. The number I have, (408)736-1374 has been disconnected. I'm trying to find out if there is an MCI driver for the DM-3021 so I can play CD's (audio)…
Jeff- What you've developed sounds very interesting. I would be interested in it from the standpoint of someone who developes multimedia projects (IE Educational, Training, etc.) I'm not sure whether you would classify that as developer or end user, but I would be interested none the less. How well does…
Martin- Thanks for sending the Sanyo info too. I should have told youhtat I really didn't need it because I've got the deck sitting right here beside me. Thanks anyway. FWIW, there may be a way to do a quick pass type operation on the Sanyo. I'm checking into it.…
Martin- Thanks for the fax. After reading it, I see why you're excited. I'm anxious to see how it performs for you once you get one. Keep us posted. I finally got ahold of Greg P. and he clued me in on it some last night, but it's nice to…
Martin- Thanks for the info. Sounds REALLY interesting. I'm anxious to see what G&G come up with on the driver side. I've got a voice call into Greg, but we're playing phone tag, but I think you've covered the info pretty well. If you don't mind faxing me the cut…
Martin- I'm unfamiliar with the DPS PAR that you speak so highly of. It sounds like it will be a godsend to us little people that don't have our own post house to play with. Is this the same beast as the Bandit unit that was in the Pyros booth…
#Dino flic on CDRom
Message #62878
Gary- Could you tell me who did the Dino.flc on the r3 CD-Rom. That was very impressive and I'd like to find out more on how the model and skin were created. Thanks,
Keith- While no price was mentioned on the tape I saw, I figured that it might be a little pricey for me. I just looked like it would be a nice modeller, especially for technical things that required exact dimensions. Currently, I use Autocad for that type of work. The…

Message #61831
Keith- Don't you guys have a product of the same name. Is it the same product? -Mark
AutoSurf
Message #61830
Mark- Thanks for the reply. It sounds like it works pretty well. The video that Autodesk sent me looked like it was targeted at manufacturing companies, so there was just a brief blurb on the tape about exporting to 3DS. I had never heard of it (seems like there is…
AutoSurf
Message #61508
I just saw a video from Autodesk on a product called AutoSurf. It appears from the video to be a pretty salty modeller. Has anyone had any experience with this product and with importing the models into 3ds? Also, any idea on cost? Thanks,
John- Actually I was looking for you for a friend of mine, Paul Thomas. I imagine he's talked to you by now. He uses both 3ds and Lightwave and was wanting to convert some things between the two. I figured you were the guy to talk to. Thanks, -Mark
#Searching for J. Foust
Message #60159
I'm trying to get John Foust's (Syndesis) ID to send him some email. I've checked the forum directory and didn't find him (didn't find me either?). Does anyone know his ID or where to send him Email?
Paul- Your points are well taken. No there is no TBC built in. And I don't think that this deck will replace the 7750. I'm sure the Sanyo guys were a little over-zealous with their sales pitch, but I do think as you said, that there is a market for…
Paul- I had a chance to test the 950 for BCD (They build the frame controller inside) and it seemed to work well. Granted, I didn't test it for 60 days, so I have no idea of the durability, but the edits were clean and everything looked good (as good…
Steven- Since I didn't hear back from you, I assume that Jamies MAKEIFL prog solved your problem. I'm no technical whiz, so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that your going to have trouble getting zero black out of your Targa+ onto tape without resetting up…
Alan- I've been off the forum for a while. Actually been busy with $$ work. (A totally new concept for us). Anyways, could you repeat the info on the 3DS party. (Time, Date, Place, etc.) I must have missed that message. Thanks, Mark
#3DS Meeting (Sigraph)
Message #42689
Has a date been set for the 3DS meeting for Sigraph this year? We're making flight plans and hotel reservations and would like to arrange them so we can attend. Thanks, Mark
David- Don't know how often you get to KC, but there's a dealer in Overland Park call Professional Video Supply that I purchased my 3DS from a couple of years ago. They seem to keep up pretty well, although I havn't purchased anything from them lately. -Mark
#2D Morph
Message #32042
Gary- That was good news you had regarding my Email. I feel much better. And yes, the 2D morph was done entirely with 3DS with the exception of capturing the 3 images. I'm writing up my technique to post on the board, but I really need to screen capture some…
Paul- I use the BCD5000 and a 7500A. I have worked with BCD on getting it to operate properly with 3DS and everthing is working fine. What sort of problems are you having? The method Al mentioned works good (in fact, I wrote the code for it) if you are…

#Dissolves in VP
Message #26540
Gary- I forgot to reply to an earlier thread regarding dissolves with VP. I use TAPCIS and when I logged on, I lost the old message, so I thought I would tell you and hopefully the info would help. I have had problems in the past with the Darkening Dissolve…
Gary- Was the pricing I saw in a previous message correct? ($300/IPAS package). I was thinking it was going to be around $50/ package (Not that it isn't worth $300, I just have to rob a couple more banks). -Mark
Steve- Unfortunently I can't help you much with the Diaquest as I use a BCD 5000 controller. I have however had problems with feedback when grabbing an image. My problem was that I had both the input and the output of the T+64 plugged into the same machine. When rotoscoping,…
Yann- I'd be happy to post the source code for it. I coded it in Basic and in a hurry, so I need to go back and clean it up and comment it. I'd post the EXE but it is written for the BCD 5000 so people with other controllers…
#Multiple Rotoscoping
Message #24708
Rock- I just wrote a utility that will allow you to rotoscope up to 50 different video segments simultaneously. I had a project that needed 6 different video segments rotoscoped on to different objects in the same scene. My problem was that I didn't have enough disk space to digitize…
Gary- The VGA card on my 486 uses the Tseng chipset. It's just a standard clone card so naturally I don't have a lot of details on it. I know you don't recommend hardware, but could you tell me what has been "known to work well with 3DS"? What type…
James- Sounds good. My address is: Mark Chambers Visual F/X 200 N. Boulevard Suite 201 Edmond, OK 73034 (405) 341-8536 BTW, I noticed your message saying that you were going to change to full Novell if you couldn't get a particular problem worked out. Is this a problem with Lantastic?…
Gary- I have tried and use the 15fps method of previews. However, because of screen tearing it's hard for me to see some of the subtle problems I may have in a scene. For general movements they are fine, but for example, I ended up with a stray keyframe on…
Sherwood- Why don't you get me your address. The file I'm thinking of is not all that big, but that way I can send you a tape to put it on so you won't have to take one out of your stock. Thanks for the offer, I'm interested in seeing…
