Alex, yep – true. -Kyle
Terry, If you aren't going to be looking inside this guys head – get rid of those inside polygons. you can do it by filling the interior of the head with some larger metaballs. (I think you're doing it with metaballs? right?) or you can do some selective face deletion.…
Terry, One thing you can do with the clipping box is to create some copies of the box and scale/move them to where you want to generate the mesh from. If you align the boxes right next to each other (i.e. visually sharing the same edge.), you can rename each…
Alex, I disagree – when 90% of what I do with metaballs is building solid mesh objects to use with Bones Pro – then speed is a big issue, along with the clipping box. I work very fast in 3DS and if I have to wait minutes rather than seconds…
John, you're right – saving in Animator Studio forces a 24-bit image file. But I was refering to Animator Pro, which is all 8-bit and great for doing good pallete mainpulitaion. -Kyle
Lee, The clipping box option and the mesh generation speed have not changed from v1.0 to v2.0. Online docs, fast preview of your reference spheres and mesh are native to v2.0. The ability to change your fusion colors is now in the same interface, instead of through MASIGN_I.PXP. I have…
Martin, yeah, I know what you mean – or try it even with an Onyx. I passed up using an Onyx w/Alias last year in favor of my P90 w/3ds, because I was getting more done. Working in true color with full texture mapping was fun, but that doesn't mean…
Lee, Yes, OrganiX does have those features over Metareyes – however you have failed to hop on the other side of the fence and take a look at Metareyes' strong points. such as: 1) Online documentation 2) Fast preview of yout reference spheres. 3) Clipping box option that lets you…
John, yes, you can save an image in AniPro as a 8-bit bmp file. Just right-click on the 'picture' button and it will give you a list of file extensions, select BMP and you're on your way. re: PNG – I'm not familiar with this format, nor have I heard…
Terry, Yes, you would want to rename each clipped section as you create it. YES!!! that's exactaly the reason! glad I could help -Kyle
Terry, sure thing, I hope it works for you – and feel free to shoot me any ?'s you have. -Kyle
Dave, I've been around, just busy . yes, I'm working on some pretty cool models . . .I'll be uploading samples of my latest in a few weeks. I'm looking forward to Danny and Alex's 'sticky mapping' – it sounds really cool. -Kyle
Terry, another thing you can do is use the clipping box option to generate your mesh in different pieces, then optimize each piece and boolean or attach them together – I do this a lot. -Kyle
Do you have you Secondary Motion Data (SMD) set correctly? You can make sure it is by entering Object/Attributes in the KF, hitting setup and then pressing OK. this will save our motion data for you AXP object based on it's animation in your scene. -Kyle
Andrew, thanks – I had a lot of fun. Next year should ba a blast! and I promise, I'll not wimp out and "forget" my demo reel. take care, -Kyle and yes, If I head down to Florida, I'll let you know and we'll hook up.
how true!!! -Kyle
thanks, Alan, we'll have to see about getting the "3D band" together. – maybe? -Kyle
Alan, only dual 133's? why not go for quad? it was great seeing everybody at the asoft party – thanks for making it happen! -Kyle
Martin, yes, I have – I've got 128 mb and qemm 7.5 see's everything fine. it's also very easy to set up in your config.sys > Then you use the SCANMEM command to display the amount of memory the machine has. SCANMEM returns a memory range called USERAM. o That…
The program termination you are experiencing can be a result of not installing the routine incorrectly. It needs to be installed_from_your_original_installation_disk. -Kyle
John, MetaREYES is available through Schreiber Instruments (800.252.1024). As far as difficulty of modeling goes, it's pretty subjective. Take a look at METAP2.JPG, NEWHUG.ZIP, and TREXMB.ZIP here in the forum – they should give you a good idea of what's possible with metaballs. Once you get a feel for metaballs,…
Peter, can you be more specific as to the problems you've encountered with the Win version? – I'm relaying this info back to the programmers I work with and I'd like to be as specific as I can as far as potential problems go. what kind of errors are you…
#Smacker
Message #179421
Hi all, I'm looking into picking up smacker for MM development – can anyone give me a thumbs up/down on it's compression/image quality? thanks -Kyle
Richard, you can contact Schreiber Instruments at (800) 252-1024. I'm sure they will be happy to send a CD out to you. -Kyle
thank you –
Thomas, there are several different solutions out there for organic modeling tasks. one of them, and the one I like most , is Metaballs. Another solution would be to use a spline based modeler. I use metaballs just because I'm more comfortable with it. In order for you to use…
looking forward to it.
Sanford, sounds like you guys really have some computing power – wow! I trust the commercial will be great! – I'd love to see it, maybe at the ASOFT party? Martin? (hint, hint . . .). I don't know if I'll be able to do anything for SC2000 – but…
Sanford, Meta-bulidings? hmm .. maybe. I'll have to look at the restrictions as far as poly count, materials, etc. -Kyle
Sanford, yes, that would be cool, as well as a big challenge. I think the thing that makes most aliens look plastic-like is their lack of underlying muscle structure and most have no hair – it just so happens that these two things are BIG hurdles to overcome. it could…
I've got Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials, it's got some really nice graphics of the puppeteer and other creatures. it would be a good modeling project. -Kyle
I picked it up today at a used book shop I happend by – looks interesting – thanks
Sanford, lets see . . yup – I remember reading Ringworld a while ago, but have forgotten much/all of it – I just remember it being about this city on a disc that has walls 1000 ft high all around it. I have Titan, but haven't read it yet. and…
Sanford, Somehow I think that everything you model eats bugs! I'm sure I could have used some of them at the last place I lived – we had a bit of a roach problem. Your rooster sounds really cool – I'm looking forward to seeing it. I've got a few…
Sanford, I'll be bringing something – I'm just starting a new project and getting set up in my new office, so I don't know how much time I'll have – but I'll have something to show. Are you bringing any of your bug work? I'd like to see how it's…
MeshPaint is published by Positron Publishing. I don't have a phone # handy, but the guy you want to talk to is Brent Malnack (73131,2027).
Hi Sanford, I'm still unpacking and getting organized again – ugh! Yes, I did submit a shot of my Face Hugger for the SIG reel, so we'll see what happens. My original thought was to kidnap Gary Yost, do a cyberware scan, and face hug him, but you know, he's…
for 3DS right now, I feel that Metaballs/BonesPro/Meshpaint is the best organic modeling solution out there. This is likely to change as new IPAS's are released. Since you're working with a skeleton first, rather than a mesh first, I'd say metaballs is your best solution. -Kyle
sorry about getting back to you late – moving can be quite time consuming Metaballs has been around for a while (several years), and is more widely available on SGI software packages. I like to think of it as just another tool, just like spline modeling, or standard polyginal modeling.…
Chris, it's hard to say. I think it's more of a presonal preference than anything else. just because the modeling techniques are so different from each other, it's kind of like comparing watercolors to acrylics. I much prefer metaballs, it comes easier to me. that's not to say that I'd…
John, I'm glad you bought the product – but your check should have gone to my address! Actually, the article that Lee refered you to was written by yours truly. it's a very detailed explination of the modeling process involved in creating my Face Hugger creature. It's an article in…
could you please be more specific as to what you want to know?
James, I looked at the gif and I don't really see anything wrong with it – they look like teeth 🙂 I did notice some banding in the geometry – this is a result of metaballs – it looks like you created these meshes at a very high poly count.…
james, if youve created the mesh object, you should not need to use mshade to get your teeth looking smooth. just meke your material like you would any other and if it's not smooth enough, tesselate it, and use SMOOTH that shipps wih bones pro (if you have it). Mshade…

Jonas, I'd like to have an option that would automaticly create an .IFL of whatever I'm rendering – it could be a small check box in the rendering options that says "make ifl?" and you click on it, specify a filename – then you don't have to do it manually.…
Thanks, Javier. well, if you can't program – which I can't – you've got to do what you can with the tools provided. -Kyle
Tyler, the Snapshot command is accesable through the KF by choosing Object/Snapshot. It creates multiple instance objects based on the animation of the object that you choose. The easiest way to understand what it does is to just do it. Load up my project file and choose Object/Snapshot then click…
James, thanks, I'm glad that everyone is able to use this process. At the moment, I'm in Columbus, Ohio – in two weeks, I'm moving to Washington DC area (northern VA). -Kyle
well, Gary, we'd need you in on it too – it'd be a trio.
could I just growl a lot?
