#81164 #Tape Drives Message #81289
From: john meggie Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware December 13, 1992 12:08 PM
Bill, the Tanberg 3600 is SCSI. It says on it "Made for IBM by Tanberg" with a manufacturing date of 6/90. It does backups and restores at 3 to 4 megs/min. You'll need something like Quarterback to backup to the Tape Drive. I got it from Micro Dimensions at 508-650-9008.…

I just bought a Tanberg 3600 that handles 150 and 250 MB tapes for $175 (may be a refurbished unit). They could have higher capacity drives. The outfit is Micro Dimensions in Mass. Their # is 508-650-9008. By the way, my drive works fine. John

Luciano, I have had my Amiga 2000 on its side for a few years with no problem. It has a floppy drive and two Quantum hard drives. Don't let dust get into the joystick port if it isn't connected. John

Denese, you need an Amiga 2000 computer with monitor and you should add a Hard Disk drive (the bigger the better) with controller, at least 5 megs of RAM (the more the better). That would be, in my opinion, your essentials list. You could also add some type of accelerator…

Blaq!, What I did for the local station's (Channel 8 in New Haven, CT) news broadcast was a demonstration on how do Morphing on a computer. It was for a "Mr. Science" weekly feature and this bit was on the morphing rage now seen on TV ads. There I was…

I have not seen G-Lock or Opal-Vision, but I can recommend the SuperGen as an excellent value. I just used it on a local station's news broadcast and it held up great. It is a very tried and true product. You may even find one on the used market. John

I would say the VXL30 it is as fast as any other '030 card at the same CPU speed. If you don't need a co-processor, the Adspeed is pretty good for the price and it will hold you till prices drop on '030 cards. John

A buddy of mine has a VXL30 on his A500 and has replaced the original '030 chip with a 50Mhz '030. After a long and frustrating wait for the RAM card to be available, he is pleased with his VXL30 purchase. What kind of info are you looking for? John

From: john meggie Amiga Arts Forum · Applications August 29, 1992 11:08 AM
Shien, generally the way it works is that the software (Real 3D) will include a special library (in addition to the board library) to make the program display to the board (OpalVision). Real 3D just added support for DCTV, Harlequin, and their own 24 Bit board. However that special library…

Paul, speaking of Chip RAM accelerators, did you see the ad in the September Amiga World (p.36)? "The Fast Lane" Chip RAM accelerator from Black Knight Peripherals – $269 without Agnus (1MB or 2MB). They're looking for Beta and Gamma testers (including *free* hardware). Other neat products in the ad.…

Robert, I do not have a DCTV but I can guess that the reason the colors are off is that the palette is not locked (the same) for all the frames of the anim. Some programs require this. A program like Imagemaster will batch render the frames to one palette.…

About the AVideo 24, I just want to know how it does 12 bit animations up to 25 frames/sec (hi-res?). And is that the same (excellent) TVPaint software I've seen with GVP's EGS graphics board. Tell ya what, if you don't know off the top of your head I'll call…

Sam, yes it is true that '040 boards have trouble with "self modifying" files but the work around is turn off Copy Back mode on the '040 Board. There will be a slight loss in speed but not that great. John

OH WOW! The PAL grounding fix – I forgot about that. That's gotta be it. Will give it a try and let you know the result. Thanks for the response (been away on business).
Thanks for the suggestion but the Minimegs goes into the connector on the side of the A1000. Without the Minimegs, the system works fine. I feel it is a memory address contention problem but I don't know how to fix it. I'm going to try posting this message in another…

Jim, I have a PPS 68040 installed on my A2000 (which Amiga do you have?) and have been quite pleased. It works fine except the occasional software that has problems with the 68040 copyback mode. I'm using WB 2.04 with a GVP Series II HD controller. I also have the…

Pat, what is the price for Spectracolor Ham-E. There are two prices listed in different places in the newletter Oxxi released. How do I prove I'm a registered Ham-E user? Will you continue to sell and support it in light of Black Belt's decision to discontinue HamE production? Thanks. John

Lee, I would say what you need is a good 3D Modeling program (3D CAD) to slice a model and then output the different cross-sections. Most of the 3D modeleling programs are also ray tracers but I don't think you need that aspect of the program for what you are…

Yes, do try that PDraw. The Canada BBS still has posted a tutorial on using PDraw clips (in Real 3D conference, Dir 6), but not much else. I'm still trying to find out how we get the upgrade to V1.4.1. I'll let you know if I find anything. Till later.…

Randall, Digiview can be used for slow scan color digitizing with a black + white camera and a color wheel attached to the camera. You can use a color camera if you can get the output in RGB form. Usually the B+W camera and color wheel will give you higher…

OK, Doug, I'll try. Pro Draw is a structured drawing program, so called "vector" based. This is quite different than a normal bitmapped paint program like DPaint. In Pro Draw you create outlines that are individual elements. They can be resized, rotated, distorted, magnified, etc with no loss of detail…
