From: Bill Hardman/UK Amiga Arts Forum · DeskTop Video October 11, 1992 5:16 AM
Those numbers come from the Instrument Table for the synth used to prepare the original file – in this case the MT32 I believe? As the MT32 is multi-timbral you have access to 128 instruments on each of the 16 channels. #121 on the MT-32 is Castanets. On the General…

I like the idea of transferring the C directory to RAM. I use the KCS PC Board (Spectra on your side of the pond) and this provides an extra 640k RAM when the computer is booted in Amiga mode. It's actually using the PC main memory as extra Amiga RAM.…

Betty, Thanks. You're right on the ball, as usual. I wanted a bootable disk because with Whap! in df0: and Whapdata in df1: I was getting sick of constantly having to swap the data disk with the Workbench disk. Anyway, after I left the last message I tinkered about a…

The Yamaha DX-100 is a four operator FM synthesiser with various preset sounds and the capability to generate and modify your own via the FM "operators". As far as I know, it's poyphonic and multitimbral with keyboard splits and the rest. The FM synthesis is a bit simpler to use…

I am using a demo version of Whap! 19g and am trying to make a bootable disk. I have followed the instructions in the manual EXACTLY and have installed the disk. I have written a startup-sequence file consisting just of "Whap!". Whenever I try to boot from the disk I…
Kenny, I caught this part way through the thread. Are you marketing the PC Board made by KCS BV of Dordrecht, Holland? If so, I've been using one for some time (bought in the UK from Bitcom Computer Products) and am very pleased with it. It's running now in fact,…
help with LHARC Message #52212
Thanks, Betty. I'll get ARC.EXE now. We're getting there gradually! Next project will have to be to put Whap! on a self booting disk. I'm getting tired of disk swapping when going in and out of View! – via Whap!

Don, No, the LHARC file was not archived at all. I was advised that renaming to LHARC and putting it in the current path would be enough. It wasn't!! LZ extracts OK from .LZH files and PKAZIP handles .ZIP but I can't extract ARC at the moment. Bill

Betty, Thanks for the advice. I have got JRComm so I'll try that for single downloads. Bill

Vic, The only manuals I got with the machine are the "A500 User's Manual English" and the Enhancer Software manual for Amigados 1.3. All the User's Manual tells me is "This error may occur if you try to open a tool that has been damaged. Try making a new copy…

Doug, I'm using Whap! on to the CIS London node which doesn't use any other PSS type service. Some downloads work OK – it's just these 2 which are giving me the problems. Bill – via Whap!

Don, I extracted PKAX.ARC with LZ and I think it extracted OK. Still won't work. I've been trying to download ARCHLP.EXE but in common with several other people (see Amigavendor) Whap! now seems unable to download anything at all. Is there no end to it? It's going to be back…

Tom, You are getting the same drivel as me about "files not being an object module". I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me or the machine itself. I've known PDP's, DEC's and VAX/VMS mainframes be easier to use than this. Another thing – even with 2…

I'm making gradual progress with the beast now. I've got a working copy of LZ which copes with most .LZH's etc and have now got PKAZIP working as well. This has the intuition interface and can handle the .ZIPs. With PKAX and LHARC I still get this peculiar error message…

Betty, It's interesting that Jay is having this problem. Wherever I put LHarc and whatever I type I always get "Unable to load LHarc – file is not an object module". As you will remember, I've been banging on about this for some time now. I got a copy of…

Don, I haven't tried Crossdos – I've been trying to find a supplier for it over here. The KCS Board doesn't have transfer capability. You either boot as an Amiga or an XT and never the twain shall meet. Apart from that, the product is excellent. It is handling Tapcis…

The excellent Amiga User International magazine for February included LZ among other things on its cover disk. I have actually managed to get it working and unarchived Whap! As my CIS password is hidden in Tapcis and I have forgotten it I'm not quite on line as an Amiga yet…

Thanks, Betty. I'm still going round in circles. It just occurred to me that because I'm using Tapcis with the Amiga in MSDOS mode via the KCSBoard I'll end up with ZOO.EXE on an MSDOS disk – unreadable by AmigaDos. ARRRGH!!!! I will have to try manual operation via JR-Comm…

After all my problems with LHarc which I still cannot get to work – the machine keeps saying "Unable to load LHarc. File is not an object module" I have downloaded lha_110.run which is self-extracting. Well, that has extracted perfectly on to its own disk but when I try to…

Betty, I'm still getting the same problem. Wherever I put LHARC, on typing its name I get – "Unable to load Lharc : File is not an object module." I have now downloaded theuncompressed version 3 times from CIX, the last time being a version mailed to me with an…

Betty, Thanks for the reply and sorry for calling you the Guru! I am actually running Tapcis now on the Amiga 500 with the KCS Power Board installed. What I meant was if I downloaded Amiga executables as binary files on to MS-DOS disks and then converted to AmigaDos -…

I am completely new to the Amiga after several years on IBM, including Tapcis on CIS. So ignorant am I that the Amiga, with a KCS Board fitted, is now running as a PC and I am still on Tapcis. I must get it into native mode. What do I…
