Ok, fine by me. David
I'm not so sure Gary, let's wait until after the Expo before we judge him . I definately agree about him being too deep in company politics but I think that's just the typical attitude of Autodesk UK employees !… Anyway back to being serious, how about meeting up at…
Gary, I had much the same problems until I wrote a really unpleasent message to Autodesk US on compuserve, The result a long phone call with Nick Manning, who is apparently the UK 3DS & associated programs, product manager. He actually called me on Tuesday morning after I posted a…
PMJI John, but I have just been reading an article concerning multiple processors, the article itself goes on at some length about the pros and cons of such systems and can be found in the September 1995 issue of Windows Magazine. Essentialy however it says the following, the apparent power…

Jonas, I'm still hanging ……………………… David Orf
Hi Jonas, PMJI But ! The last time something like this happened ( with ani studio ) you chaps in the USA said something along the lines of " September … Autodesk anounces ani studio …. those people who purchase ani pro between now and shipping of ani studio will…
Resources are definately limited I owe about 15k dollars ! Any way I think I have the problem solved, more or less , I will upgrade now to Win 95 on my existing machine, then next year sometime I will get a nice new machine with 64Mb ram dual processors…
#3DS Max WIn95 version
Message #184448
Ok very impressive, but no "official" source has stated that 3DS MAX will not run under Win 95, Nor for that matter has anyone stated that there will be any version that will run as a proper Win95 app, this seems particularly stupid, as of the 24th of the month,…
Hi Scott, What you need to do is use the merge option to merge youre 2d shp file with the new dxf file, now I could suggest you rtfm but since you asked so nicely I quote, The 2D Shaper merges polygons from .shp and 2D .dxf files. Be careful…

David, You cant directly from 3ds, the easiest & cheapest is to run PaintshopPro v3.0 or higher under windows, its easy cheap & is quite fast, else any paint program that can take in a suitable file format will do. Hope that helps David
David et all, PMJI I have a SummaSketch FX tablet with pressure stylus & Puck as well, the stylus does work reasonably well, unfortunatly the "GENIUSES" at Summagraphics decided to make the stylus triangular in X-Section this is ok for up to an hour or so of continuous any more…

UK phonenumber
Message #177070
Uri, PMJI its a UK number, if youre elsewhere in the world you need to remove I think the first 0 and replace it with your international dialling code to teh UK David
Ted, Thats Ok just glad I was right about the number, & happy to help, actually i might give them a call myself sometime soon david
Michael, yeah nice budgets, but I wonder how much goes towards things like secreterial expenses etc. One of the advantages of working from home is that I dont have multiple office staff working for me, I dot have huge office rents & so on. By working in an office a…
Dennis, yeah for anyone around who doesn't know what that translates to, Take one small Iron object and add the sorts of inertia dennis is talking about, then direct it towards the nearest planet …….. bye bye planet !….. On the other hand if you can sort out these minor…
Michael, yep we are agreed, actually one point in favour of 3DS's migration to Windows is that more people are familiar with the Windows interface than a custom DOS, Unix or whatever one, Of couurse I am now fervantly hoping that V5 of 3DS will indeed conform to these standard…
Bud, This is one even i can help with, dont selected the pick box on the left of the area you want, instead double click in the text area (e.g harware/opsys) this will then show you a scrolling screen with all the latest messages in that section, now use the…
Ted & Thorsten, PMJI Ted but that looks like a UK number, you should be informed that as from April this year all UK numbers have had an extra 1 added after the 0 so, assuming I'm right about it being in the UK, the numbers would now be (01730)…
Andrew, The others are right about using Corel Trace, this part of the Corel Draw! Bundel first reared its head in v3,0 and is still with it, you can reduce the vertices problem if after you tace the Bitmap you use the Node edit function under corel draw to join…
To anyone and everone as well as michael Whoa there Michael! I never said that Architects etc. were unable to think in 3D I was just saying that they stick with what they're taught, in some ways this ties in with your comments as regards ease of use, or rather…
To Jerome & Anne and everyone else whose intreasted. I think that one of the problems 3D work in general is so underused is that most people/architects/engeineers whatever are taught from an earl age to produce drawings on flat sheets of paper i.e. 2D and therfore they get into the…
Dennis, Yeah right, I'll take you up on that offer assuming you have solved the ever so minor problem of how to move the damm things without destroying the nearest solar system……. David
Clint, Of course why didn't I think of him ! this sort of project should just be petty cash to him , now how do you suppose he should be approached ? Oh yes purely as an asside, whilst the assembled laser needs to be about a mile long, unassembled…
Jerome, I found this whole thread fascinating, if I understand everyone corectly the idea is that we should all be using 3ds as a sort of "freform design tool", now I'm no architect but over here that would probably create merry hell with the clients, most of the people I…
whereabout in the UK have you tried ?… I live on the south coast and locally to me I have seen 3DSFX book in Waterstones & Dillons bookshops, also you know the name of the book and its publiser, & author ? any "Good" bookshop or even WH Smiths can…
Ah Clint, Why didnt you say you needed the X-Ray laser component, I have two sitting in bits in my lab just at the moment, Of course I have the same powersource problem as yourself, anyone out there got any spare fussion reactors , the only other problem is getting…
Oh clint, you disapoint me I think my idea was much more fun I mean all you need is a gigantic X-Ray laser say about a mile long, a propulson unit to move it and a highly acurate control system with probably a large fusion reactor to pwer it. Then…

Jerome, thanks for the swift and interesting reply, I would just like to point out that there are some disadvantages to working from home, for example, people (clients) start calling you at all hours of the day and night with silly requests/questions you dont get to talk/mull over ideas with…
Clnt I am glad to see that you are going to come to a settlement with the mag, I just hope you get a good deal and seeing as thats the case I will do as yuu say and purchase a copy of the manual from them asap, i.e I'll…
Jerome, I suppose I have an advantage over a lot of people in this buisness in that I work from home, so all my pc's, software etc are right next to my bedroom, as a result I like to "play" with the hardware and software when I have the spare…
Clint, Thanks for all the info, when I send this I will go and have a look at the VRLI saection, I wasn't really suggesting a high detail DXF to DEM converter I was thinking that perhaps what might be possible is some form of pre processor just for landscapes,…
Sorry Clint Missed this messsage earlier, please feel free to ignore any relavent parts of my later message Thanks for the use of the software, I only get to play with it during the eveings when nobody is ringing me up asking stupid questios, I really like it I'd like…
Sorry Clint, My mistae…. I hadn't botherd to look in the about section …. Wow … it says Version 3.10, I can imagine that this coversisk thing has you chaps really rather upset !….. Back to the previous question though, is there a UK distributor and if no why not…
Paul I would imagine that since the 3.0 version does have dxf out (and it works) that 3.1 would also have it.
Clint, I'm sorry to read your reply I had no idea that the magazine in question had supplied an illegal copy, especially as its on its own cd and not bundld with a whol lot of other stuff, as would normaly be the case, also they are offering the manual…

Hi Jonas or whoever eventualy gets this message, Sorry to do this, but do you guys in the states have any idea how much longer we in the U.K are going to have to wait for the bug fix, now I'm not one for complaining but way back in january…
Bob. Hmm…. thanks for that, I shall have to give it a try next time I need to get a acad dwg into corel, what gets to me is that corel claims to be able to import dxf files, yet it cant bring in one from acad, for that matter…
I have a range of software including AutoCAD, 3DS and Corel & I must admit that I have never ever been able to persuade corel to read or write a correctly set up DXF file, maybe someone in the corel forum could help ? If I have to get a…
