Jay: Is this a MS application, or a third-party developer? Personally, I'm looking at the MicroHelp packages, but haven't had much time. Larry
Greg: Yep… you gots athlete's fingers REAL BAD! VB has full API interaction, same as Quick C for Windows, my next choice. True, VB has limitations, but then, what doesn't? Remember – lots of us don't program for a living! Larry
Craig: Try running 3DS in Windows (remember, update PharLap to v2.6 if necessary and run in standard mode), start up Collage and pick your settings, set a large enough time delay (30 seconds will probably do nicely) and go to town. Larry
#10632- #Visual Basic and AA DLL Message #10652
C#: Ah… but I have Collage captures done from 3DS in Windows in my dirty little hard drive even as we type.. I'll check my DOS version. Larry
#10592- phar lap extender Message #10649
Gregg: You have the first part right… the newer version of PharLap is both VCPI and DPMI compliant, and can therefore be set up as a PIF file in Windows. Actually, this is possible with v2.6 to some degree. Lemme know if you need the details. The second part, however,…
#9947 3D-Studio books Message #9959
Greg: Whatcha want? You looking for New Riders Publishing's book on 3DS? The one Jeff Hester and Michelle Bosquet wrote? I'll be danged if I can remember the title, but either Ken Billing or Jeff Hester oughta be able to pop in with it… Larry
#9628 Windows & Ani Pro Message #9885
Jay: I had this same problem – working on it right now. Gotta get SPEA's updated ANI-PRO drivers, and *perhaps* change from TIGA to a direct Windows driver. Larry
#34317 #NEW PRODUCT Message #34412
Walt: Please pass a copy my way. Thanks! Larry
Bill: No can do – the "spacer" files are the ones that assure you that you have enough room left to save your current drawing. You do want to be able to do that, dont you? Larry

#34067 #Stacker?? Message #34409
From: Larry Beck [Windows TM] Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 24, 1992 10:37 AM
Thomas: I used Stacker (software only) on my .dwg files and the acad prgram and support files without a problem. Larry
#34038 #ACAD settings Message #34408
From: Larry Beck [Windows TM] Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 24, 1992 10:36 AM
Dave: Problem with that is you limit your memory to being used as EXPanded, whereas lots of applications want to see EXTended. The best solution, naturally, is to use QEMM, but short of that *I* recommend leaving out EMM386 entirely. Larry
#34220 ACAD settings Message #34407
From: Larry Beck [Windows TM] Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 24, 1992 10:36 AM
Mark: I had problems with acad when using the ,UMB switch. Never did get around to finding out why, but I didn't need it. The better solution is to use QEMM, but DOS's Himem.sys will do in a pinch. Larry

#33982 acad286 help please Message #33994
From: Larry Beck [Windows TM] Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 21, 1992 1:42 PM
Doug: Check the penwidth you have specified and compare it to the width you have assigned in your plot parameters. Using a .35mm pen when you have specified 1.0mm in AutoCAD will not create a very good "fill" when plotted. Larry
#33974- #ACAD settings Message #33993
From: Larry Beck [Windows TM] Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 21, 1992 1:42 PM
Don: Are you sure you have the Phar Lap DOS Extender upgraded to v2.6? Also, remove EMM386 from your CONFIG.SYS file and the ,UMB from your DOS=HIGH statement. Suddenly you'll see that baby load the whole drawing into memory (no more swap writes and reclaims) and the loading time will…
#9526 3DS object sources? Message #9561
Hey guy – love that new area code!!
#9538- Windows & Ani Pro Message #9560
First off, have them verify that Ani-Pro is running the 2.6 release of Phar Lap. They can do this by typing CFIGPHAR ANI.EXE at the DOS prompt. If this works (shows v2.6, that is), then they need to remove all memory managers *except* HIMEM.SYS from their CONFIG.SYS file. Set whatever…
#33939 Release 12.0 upgrade Message #33956
From: Larry Beck [Windows TM] Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 21, 1992 8:30 AM
Dave: Becoming something of a race, isn't it? Larry
Steve: BRIEF will handle the task, but QEdit should have done it as well. Also, WCEDIT (available in demo form here on the forum) is worth looking into. Larry
#9507 free tape transfers Message #9521
Thanks – will do.

David: Glad things are better (pizza over donuts *any* day!)… Regarding Zoom Vmax – you shouldn't get the "Do you want to REGEN" option this way – Vmax should automatically zoom to the largest virtual screen that AutoCAD can handle at that time, regardless of whether it was your last…
#33825 VGA dwgs on EGA? Message #33852
Don: Regarding NDOS, you shouldn't have any troubles there – I use it. With the disk cache, how big is it? How much RAM do you have on your system? And how big are your average drawing files? This may decide whether you want to have a disk cache at…

David: If you're in paperspace, you're stuck. Otherwise, try using Zoom Vmax rather than Zoom Previous. Larry

Mark: Remember that the Windows version that ships March 1 is R11, not R12. No "R12" technology is being implemented, per se. Larry

#9301- AAPLAY for Windows Message #9413
No – you're correct. Anyone willing can pass on the Windows player to anyone else, so long as the Autodesk copyright notice and such stay attached and all the necessary files are supplied and there is no fee.
Could this be a limitation of your Windows configuration (ie running in 16 color mode to maximize resoluation)?
#33631 WCEDIT Message #33686
Jim: To be honest, Walt makes it clear that WCEDIT is not shareware, and that the demo copy on the forum is just that – a demo. Have you ever considered asking nicely? Larry
#33596 WCEdit…ok? Message #33685
Roland: I'd say it's worth the registration fee of $95 – particularly if you spend much time either putting notes into drawings or writing lisp and/or menu's. Larry
#33577 #Help-Unprotect Message #33684

From: Larry Beck [Windows TM] Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 19, 1992 10:19 AM
Mark: AutoCAD for Windows Rel 11 will ship March 1st – I would bet that Autodesk (at management level, at least) is already looking at how it will market AutoCAD for Windows Rel 12, as the R12 platforms are scheduled to start shipping 3rd quarter '92. Larry
Highlight? Message #33680
From: Larry Beck [Windows TM] Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD February 19, 1992 10:19 AM
Mike: Any possibility you're using a lisp routine that's changing the value of the sysvar highlight? Larry
Anthony: Definitely check out AutoBASE, which is written by CYCO International. It's a front-end program for AutoCAD, which lets the user view the file and attach a rolodex-type card to it, with whatever information your network administrator wants the user to have access to. The user then finds the card…

#28923 Stacker and AutoCAD Message #28924
[Continued] I haven't noticed any slowing down, but then most of my access is through Windows, where I load a file or program into memory and go from there. Disk access benchmarks are showing less than 8% difference in access times, but I'm not sure how reliable they are with…
#28792 #Stacker and AutoCAD Message #28923
Andrew: I've had STACKER 2.0 (software only) installed on my second physical hard drive for around three months and on my notebook for around four months. The installation is a breeze so long as you follow the directions. My configuration ends up as follows: Drive C: Non-compressed 90Mb ESDI drive…
#28793 Login error Message #28922
From: Larry Beck [Windows TM] Autodesk AutoCAD Forum · AutoCAD January 16, 1992 9:14 AM
Bob: The .dwk file is a lock file for the .dwg file – and should be removed by AutoCad when you exit the drawing editor. However, if you should crash during editing, the lock file isn't removed. You can unlock a file (menu, drawing, etc) from the AutoCad main menu.…

#28700 Command line editing Message #28797
Duff: I'd say start out small, if necessary. A command history set similar to the way 4DOS does theirs shouldn't be too hard. I'd think you might get away without putting mouse picks, digitizer picks, etc into the first go-round for clarity, with the promise that it will be considered…
#28659 R11 Xref (entmod)?? Message #28717
Peter: >> When it's all done with layers, one's layering standard can become convoluted. If I've got several groups of entities that need to have different appearances in other drawings, then I am forced to have one additional layer for each group.
JP: Donkashein. Larry
#28518 #R11 Xref (entmod)?? Message #28619
Peter: I would say it comes down to drafting convention – I put all of those things onto separate layers, and therefore a layer-specific rather than entity-specific approach solves these problems for me. I understand what you're saying and attempting to do – the solution *I* want is different because…

Jeff: Oh… yeah… I forgot the latest alternative – a support contract with Autodesk. Pricey, but perhaps worthwhile for a large pool of users. Larry
