From: John Slater Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Hware/OpSys/video February 26, 1995 12:02 AM

#Lofter wish Message #155389
From: John Slater Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Wishlist February 24, 1995 12:48 AM
How about adding an extra item to the top status line in the lofter that tells you how many vertices are in the shape on the current level of the path. This would make the task of figuring out which shape has a different number of vertices from the others…
Video drivers Message #155388
From: John Slater Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Hware/OpSys/video February 24, 1995 12:48 AM
I'm looking for a 24 bit Vibrant driver for a Western Digital 90c33 video card for 3DS. The folks at Vibrant said that the reason there is only a 16 bit driver available is because Autodesk didn't pay for a 24 bit version to be included. How do I get…
Western Digital Video Message #139722
Are there any drivers out there that allow 24 bit rendering in 3DS R3 to a video card based on the Western Digital 90C33 chip? The Vibrant drivers only support 16 bit. A Vibrant rep told me that they don't support 24 bit because Autodesk didn't wish to pay for…
#102101- Camera spin Message #102424
Thanks for the responses. I tried a 180 degree roll of the camera at the exact 'flip-frame' of the camera, but since the camera is offset slightly from the pivot point of the dummy it's slaved to, the roll doesn't quite counteract the effect correctly. As you say, that'll be…
#Camera spin Message #102084
I know this question has been asked before, but I can't remember the answer for the life of me… How do you keep the camera from doing a 180 degree flip when you pivot it over the top of an object in the Keyframer? I've tried slaving it and the…

#66899 Vlan and Rotoscoping Message #67083
From: John Slater Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio November 18, 1993 12:52 AM
Just so you know, I've had a similar problem with my ATVista and the VLAN digitizing software. Like you I thought it worked in R2, but now I can't seem to get it to work in either version. My guess is we should be talking to Videomedia (Larry Rask 72056,1316)…

#32816 V-LAN VTR CONTROL Message #33210
From: John Slater Autodesk Software Forum · General January 24, 1993 8:07 AM
Don- I've got a VLAN controller question for you. Why can't I use the Heads/Tails option in 3DS with any number other than the default (30) with my VLAN controller? Basically, whenever I record to tape (a Sony PVW2800) and set the head and tail to say, 150 frames, 3DS…

#22485 video rendering Message #22502
From: John Slater Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio August 28, 1992 12:31 AM
I'm not entirely sure I understand what you're trying to do, but I think taking a look at Ron Scott's QFX product line would be a step in the right direction. Your local Targa/Truevision dealer should be able to help you.
#22434 V-LAN Message #22501
From: John Slater Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio August 28, 1992 12:31 AM
Lee, I've used the V-Lan to do rotoscoping with TOPAS and it works fine. 3DS does require 3rd party software to do frame-captures, so you would need extra software for 3DS no matter which deck controller you choose, (though I think Diaquest ships a program called 'Digitize' with its product…

Thats a pretty cool trick! The best part is, you can re-use your 'arm', 'body' and 'leg' materials. I gotta try that one myself… Thanks! -JohnS
#22359 #3DS Problem Message #22424
From: John Slater Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio August 26, 1992 11:35 PM
I spoke with the new user again today, and I had him try to do a command line render of eyeball.3ds, the system locked up again. It also locks up when using 3ds.exe directly, without the shell, but gives a differen't error message. Unfortunately I'll have to wait until tommorrow…
#V-LAN Message #22413
From: John Slater Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio August 26, 1992 10:00 PM
A contact for Video Media, makers of PACE (Professional Animation Control Engine) and V-Lan, (no idea what that acronym means), is Michael Levin, (408) 227-9977. Another is Ian Weingold, same number. Ian will go the extra mile for you, but he's difficult to get ahold of. As far as I…
#3DS Problem Message #22335
From: John Slater Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio August 26, 1992 10:32 AM
I just received a phone call from a new 3DS user who was trying to install 3DS on a 486 '33 with 4mb of ram. His problem is the program simply will not start, the shell locks at the point when it says "Initializing 3DS…". When installing, he got error…
#21604 Looking for Files Message #21652

To get a copy of Dave's Targa Animator, call Mind Image BBS at (612) 781-1720. I think you might have better luck using AnimatorPRO to convert a series of pictures into a flic though. Hope this helps. -JohnS

Roger, I'll jump in here for a second to say that I've been using a VLAN VLX controller for about 6 months now with no problems. Price is around $2000. -JohnS
#20399 #synching animations Message #20458
Greg, If you can re-render at say, every 5th frame, and at a low resolution, that should make it playable from within 3DS. Every 5th frame would make 125 seconds work out to 750 frames, which should work. From there, you can adjust the number of frames per second in…
#20183 Assigning lights Message #20356

Thanks Bob. -JohnS
Robert, I'm not exactly sure what format you're trying to transfer to, did you mean FLI/FLC formats? What format are you coming from? AniConv can handle a lot of different file types. -JohnS
#20101 Assigning lights Message #20354
From: John Slater Autodesk Software Forum · Wishlist July 31, 1992 1:31 AM
When I was using Vertigo software, the objects in a scene had a 'lit-by' attribute so you could define which lights would shine on that object. One of the benefits of this ability was that I could use colored lights to get special effects on one object, while leaving an…
#synching animations Message #20353
Greg, Have you tried the 'check speed' option in 3DS? That should solve your problem.
I use a Speedstar VGA card with my computer and I think I have an answer to your display problems. You need to find a program called VMODE that is buried somewhere in your /STAR directory (unfortunately I'm at a differen't computer right now so I can't look that up…
#18532 #Morph Programs Message #18623
From: John Slater Autodesk Software Forum · General July 7, 1992 12:39 AM
David, A friend of mine did some "Michael Jackson" type morphing in 3DS with very good results. I have a flic of a morph between 4 human faces that he did. If you`re interested in seeing it, and/or the technique involved, email me. -JohnS
