Paintbox under Windows
Message #192067
Presently, I use DOS based paint programs (TIPS+ & QFX) that render directly to the TARGA on an NTSC monitor. This is very important for video paintbox work(colors, aspect ratio, etc.). The latest generation of paint/image programs are all Windows applications, which render to the Windows display. As far as…
I get the same thing with a Summa II and 3DSr3. It makes rotations kinda tough. There's a text file in the libraries here concerning the Summa ADI driver. It may be of some help to you or least offer an explaination (I don't remember the filename but, try a…
Any news on Targa+ driver for NT? I haven't heard or seen any results from their survey. Seems like their touting their (gulp) Mac based products in the press alot lately… Paul
John, Got my copy too. Very nice. Now to buy more RAM… Paul

Ted, > Actually, I live in Albany(so I'm have way there) and Boston IS a nice place to visit in the summer… Thanks for the invite and I'll be in touch before I make a future roadtrip. Paul
Lee, Thanks for the invite. I wasn't able to make that one. From your info you mentioned this was the second monthly meeting. How many times a month do you meet and are they always on Tues.? Thanks for the directions, I'll keep 'em on hand. And I'll call for…
Hi Scott, Sorry about the late reply been off-line for awhile. Well, yes. The television field. I finished my Masters in '88. I was in Wende Hall right next door to Hayes Hall(I'm assuming you were in the Arch. Dept.). Recently, I was in the area on a job search,…
> Yep, that's how I learned. Paul
Steve, PMJI, when using WINCIM you could do a MESSAGE/FRESHEN MESSAGES, once you've entered a forum, to see your newly posted messages. Paul
Ted,
Hi Scott, > Did you graduate from UB? I did back in '88.
I'm originally from Roch. also. Now I'm out near Albany. As far as I know, the closest 3DS user groups to us are located in Boston or down in the City. How many 3DS folks are there in Roch.? Maybe we could start a WNY chapter.

Bruce, I just DL'ed the full text Pennelo review again and all is well. Thanks, Paul
Bruce, > In 1983 I spelled computer graphics Apple][ and used graphics software by Beagle Bros. BTW, what file format is the full text version of your Pennelo review? I dl'ed it but couldn't open it. I examined the file but couldn't tell what program wrote it. Thanks, Paul
> That's sad to hear. I just have some issues dating back to '87. I just took a look at a couple, they brought back some exciting memories… It was a much better mag back then, at least to me. Today I can do most of the stuff I dreamed…
Ed, FWIW, a Targa+ or a Targa clone board would be a good single slot choice. Although they only come in one flavor, ISA… Paul
David, > Thanks, I kinda overlooked that. Have you used this QT IPAS? If so, were you able to play the .mov on a MAC? Paul
Doug, Sorry, I thought you were a 3DS user. > Yes, I believe so. I've haven't heard of another package that supports IPAS type plug-ins. This was the first util I've seen that writes QT files, although I just started looking this week. I also haven't been successful in running…
Doug, Ijust DL'ed a demo IPAS that generates QuickTime .movs directly from a video post render (Library #1 search for keyword "Quicktime"). It seems to work fine under 3DS but I still have to have a Mac friend check out the playback. Off hand, I don't know of any util…
> Sure, I've got an Apple][ and an Amiga buried around here somewhere…
Rick,
Rick, Not bad, financially. When you add in your time, frustration and downtime the cost goes up. It just goes to show you how much we love our complicated mechanical devices. Can you do this automatically or do you have to do alot of "point & clicking"? Or is there…

#3D Artist #18?
Message #153737
Does anyone have any info on the next issue of 3D Artist? TIA, Paul
> Makes sense. Hopefully that's it and the parts are in stock… Once again, Good Luck, Paul
Rick, So how did you make out? Paul
Rick,
Rick, Does this problem occur without going through the T+ (connecting the camcorder directly to the VTR and recording)? If so, does the problem follow to another VTR upon playing the tape in a different machine? If it does the problem could be isolated to the record head. If it…
I have had the same H-shift problem when xfering to tape. Now, I make sure that I genlock my Targa+ to house reference. Apply the same sync source the VTR is getting to the input of the T+. I use "TARGEDIT genlock 1" from DOS to make sure it syncs.…
ADI printer drivers
Message #143875
Has any one used the ADI4.2 print drivers for Autocad/Autosketch with 3DSr3? Is this possible? Or does 3DS require specific drivers? I've seen it over in the Epson forum and was wondering…
> Eric, I'm looking for another framebuffer… But i've never seen the Visionetics products. Could you answer a few questions for me; What's the quality of the composite video output on the VIGA+(ie. have you had to chance to view the output on a waveform monitor). Are there hardware adjustments…
Dan, I think you might have left this in the wrong area. But to answer your question… > Sounds like an excerpt from the tech specs on a VTR. If that's the case, then "threading" refers to the processes involved with loading the tape around the scanner. Paul
1.) If you want to use the tablet as a mouse (relative mode), make sure you load the tablet's mouse emulation driver before running 3DS. 2.) If you want to use the tablet as a tablet (absolute mode), take note of the following: I use a 1201 also. Once in…

#Disk Render Alpha only
Message #122090
Greetings All, I am wondering if there is a way to have 3DSr3 save only the rendered .TGA alpha files to disk as opposed to split image and alpha? What I'm doing is generating animated hi-con mattes for later (video) on-line posting. The alpha images are all I really need…
3DS USERS!!! <vroom>
Message #106445
John, > If you are still going to go with this idea, I'll participate, albeit on the slow end of things. So if it's a go, let me know. Please e-mail me directly any details. Paul 71057.3516
IMHO, 3DS, LightWave or Topas are pretty much functionally equal. What makes one outshine the others is the amount of time you spend using it and exploring with it… My 3DS biased opinion is that, in the future, 3DS will be looked upon as the Visicalc or Lotus 123, the…

SUMMA Locks-up alot!
Message #102772
Jimbo, If you like the to use the Summa as a tablet better than an emulated mouse, you can power the tablet OFF then ON and your cursor will come back. I use mine like this and basically have learned to deal with the polling driver's "features". FWIW, -P.M.
David, > Yea, I've tried both, same result… -P.M.
David, Yes I have, but I've been using a tablet for so long… I really don't like using the tablet cursor as a mouse and all my other software uses the tablet as a tablet so it's very uncomfortable for me to use 3DS otherwise. I'd just like to be…
Andrew, I've run into the same problem with imported Corel .AI text. I had to tediously edit/delete POLY vertices and then reCONNECT them. Some letters are worse than others and so are some font styles, like serifed ones. But sometimes it has been automatic and painless process… FWIW, Paul
#Tablet woes
Message #99676
I'm having a strange problem with 3DSr3 and my Summa II 1201 tablet. I'm using the latest DGPADI driver DL'ed from Summa's BBS(I just prefer it over the internal one). Anyway, when I run 3DS, my cursor is stuck in about mid-screen. I do a "* T" via keyboard. Wait…
PMJI, My Summa does the same thing. What I've learned to do is to turn the tablet off/on. The cursor comes back right away. I use a DGPADI driver (I like it better than the internal one) also. Paul
Patrick, Sounds interesting, could you e-mail me more particulars (info)? Paul
Hi Heinz, Cool, I wonder if #15 will have color? Thanks, Paul
