#104549 BindDrivers fails??? Message #104857
From: Joanne Dow Amiga User Forum · Bridgeboard/AMAX June 25, 1993 4:27 AM
Modify startup-sequence to place "enforcer quiet" just before the binddrivers call. (You should be able to find enforcer in the listings area here if it is not on the install disks.) {@_@}

Bad numbers Don. Good math. The fastest drives around are spinning at 6300rpm or so and have close to 100 sectors per track and something on the order of 15 heads. They *SCREAM*. (The MAXTOR Magic has been clocked in my presence at 3.9megs per second using diskspeed4 and when…

Paul, I am GLAD I am not the only one saying this. I've been arguing about this over on BIX as well. There simply no IDE drive that can approach the transfer rates of typical SCSI drives in the 1.3 to 4 gigabyte size range. And on a well written…

Seacrate? Have they really learned you cannot cheapen up the old Wren designs (er "value engineer them") and keep them running reliably? I heard they had some HORRRRRRID problems after trying to use a cheaper head assembly for one. So far I have liked Micropolis best. Their ultrafast drive has…

From: Joanne Dow Amiga User Forum · Hot News and Rumors June 25, 1993 4:26 AM
SCSI-II is always parallel transfer. SCSI-II can be 8, 16, or 32 bits wide. 16 bits wide requires a different cable and connector. 32 bit wide requires both the different connector and the original on two cables with VERY fancy software handling the timing skew in the cables. {@_@}

A4091 Controller Message #104845
From: Joanne Dow Amiga User Forum · Hot News and Rumors June 25, 1993 4:26 AM
Sigh – it is not DB-50. It is not DB family at all. The pinouts are unchanged from SCSI-1 for 8 bit SCSI. Note that 1-25 are on one side of the connector and 26-50 are on the other just like with standard SCSI-1 edge connectors. {@_@}
A4091 Controller Message #104844

It is *NOT* a DB-50 connector. It is a special ribbon connector in a shell very roughly DB-25 size. It is in no way related to the "DB" family of connector. {@_@}

I cannot strongly enough recommend WShell to people. It makes AREXX more useable. The goodies that come with it make everything else more useable. The DisplayHandler for the CLI windows gives scroll back and menus. You get file name completion capability. You get PathHandler, which IMHO is worth the price…

Toaster is important to the Amiga market. But I doubt it accounts for even 10% of Commodore's Amiga sales. (I'd believe 1% at most.) Somehow the thought of NewTek trying to push Commodore around gives me giggles. All it would do is prompt C= to "pointedly ignore them." Yet this…

Requires very clever use of the MMU. The A4000 MMU is very different from the A3000 MMU. This the "very clever" part. Since it requires the MMU and C= has more or less reserved the MMU for OS functions we'll all have to wait on C= releasing a "cpu fastrom"…
