Brian, You write: >they were cheaper? Yes, but if someone was going to shell out close to 1000 bucks (which is what they seemed to have cost back then), it didn't make sense to me to pay a little less and wind up without an MMU. And then later on,…

Ian, You're right about the EC chips. I never understood why anyone would ever upgrade their computer with one, but that seemed the way a lot of accelerators were going a while back. Take care, John G. Ata Sterling, VA

Ian, You write: >consider >a 68020 at 14 MHz, like the a1200, is equivalent to a 28MHz 68000. However, the SupraTurbo 28 MZ 68000 accelerator that I have seems to have performance numbers that are much better than the A1200 (14Mz 68EC20). This is using Lamonte Koop's AIBB 6.1. This…

From: John G. Ata Amiga User Forum · Hot News and Rumors August 19, 1995 9:28 PM
Ian or anyone who has a comment: Regarding AmigaDos 3.1: Do you know whether this is supported by Escom as an official Amiga release? My understanding is that it was never released by Commodore. I have held off from buying it because I didn't know what its status was. The…

Does anyone have an Amiga program that will control the Epson AL1100 laser printer? This printer is great and works fine with Final Writer, but I wondered if anyone had a way of manually chaning parameters that the word processor probably doesn't address such as "toner saving" mode. Thanks, John…

Many thanks to Dan Darlingon, Tom Jones and Daniel Stripes for their response to my query on using a switchbox on the Amiga printer port. Basically I am switching between a printer and a handscanner (doesn't have a passthrough). I will not fear that the 8250 will blow up as…

John, Do you feel that Dice contains an equal or superset of features that the Manx compiler did? I'm an orphaned Manx user and Lattice is just to expensive for me to upgrade. However, Dice (the commercial product) is new, correct? So I'm wondering which features I'd be missing or…

Nancy, I'm running a XT BB on a stock 2000 with 2.04 and Janus 2.1. I have no problem at all with aread/awrite. I would make sure that your PCPrefs point to D000. Also, there should be no need to manually load in PCDisk any longer, so make sure you've…

.04 docs. Sure it is, you supply a negative number and it frees up that number of buffers. It's in the AmigaDOS Manual (3'd Edition) and on page 8-7 of the Using the System Software docs provided with 2.04. It actually works quite well… John G. Ata Sterling, VA

This simply is NOT true as stated: The 2.04 version of addbuffers does NOT have those two failings. It does not allocate buffers in chip memory and it allows you to delete the buffers once they are allocated. Please refer the the 2.04 documentation for a complete description. Maybe there…

While I understand your point of view and agree that hires interlaced is the future for productivity, I guess I am at a loss as to how supporting a hires non-interlaced screen takes away from the functionality of AP. After all, any word processor is more usable at hires, interlaced…
#42351 AutoPilot Message #42468
From: John G. Ata Amiga Vendor Forum · Gold Disk August 15, 1992 5:48 PM
Why the requirement that AutoPilot be interlace only? This will make it difficult for those without flixerfixers or A3000 to use. Does this mean that AutoPilot will automatically create an interlaced screen, or will it return an error if the Preferences setting is not interlaced? John

That's nice…however, a 105 Meg hardrive backed up to 880k floppies results in over 110 disks! I'd hardly call that painless. In my case, I'd rather sacrifice some speed for reduction in the amount of disks. A streaming tape device is not an option for me. John

#25042 QBSnap Message #25234
From: John G. Ata Amiga Vendor Forum · Forum Business July 14, 1991 4:42 PM
Yes, I definitely have version 1.5 of QB. Further analysis of the problem, however, shows that memory is being released, it just seems to be fragmented. Running the "avail" command before a qbsnap and running "avail" after shows that the amount of free memory for both chip and fast have…

I reported a problem a while ago with QBSNAP where it would leave FAST memory horrible fragmented, so much that QBT wouldn't run properly on my Q105S drive (GVPII Controller w/ 2M fast ram). I have to do a NoFastMem before doing a QBSnap and everything turns out ok. I…

Don, Forgot to ask the obvious, but what kind of serial board are you using on the BB? I can't seem to find a buffered serial card anywhere… John
From: John G. Ata Amiga User Forum · Bridgeboard/AMAX October 27, 1990 2:12 PM
Don, Then could it somehow be my serial port at fault? I have a generic serial port that seems to work for all other purposes. Is the baud rate timing done by the serial port itself? Could it be off causing this problem. Since we have identical hardware, I can't…
From: John G. Ata Amiga User Forum · Bridgeboard/AMAX October 4, 1990 5:51 PM
Don, I didn't think it was the serial card because regular characters that are being sent over have no problem. For example, I downloaded using YMODEM a very large file (180K) with no retransmissions or errors whatsoever. Like I stated earlier, normally characters are not dropped. Only when the character…

Don, No, you misunderstood me. If I am in a telecommunications program such as MS-Kermit which emulates a VT102, and I am talking to a remote host running Emacs on it, then if I type in ^F, for example, that tells Emacs to move the cursor forward one character. So…

I have an Amiga 2000 with an XT Bridgeboard, serial card, extra 128K memory and WD controller with Miniscribe RLL HD (60 meg). Have recently upgraded my modem to 2400 baud. I seem to be able to keep up at this rate with no problem, all file transfers seem to…
