Sbase4Pro Runtime
Message #55803
Hey guys… I got my copy of the SBase4 Runtime. Works okay. But, the somewhat sparse documentation mentions a simple example program/database on the distribution disk. Okay. So where is it? Nothing on the disk but the runtime itself. And a GAMMA version at that. Not to mention the fact…
Use the "Batch" option on the record menu. See the "Database" manual for more details on how this works. BTW, select "Batch" at the end of your data entry to make the database secure. The other way to do it is to set up a form using the Forms Designer…
#SBase4 Questions
Message #55801
The only place I've found any mention of the tooltypes is in the README file on the distribution disk. Jim
Wayne, I'm not Tech_Support but here goes anyway… 1) where are the SBase4 tooltypes documented? >>> >>> are you referring to tooltypes for the Sbase4 ICON? 2) How do I get a double quote … >>> >>> several ways… if you are running the query as a DML progam, use…
Tom, I upgraded to SBase4Pro better than a year ago. There are NO incompatibilies save those which crop up when you try to run an SBase4 application under the old SBPro3 and it uses Sbase4 features. Arexx scripts are fully compatible as long as they use the correct message port…
You might try removing the indiciesrom the database (you have to leave at least one active), reorg it to the same name and rebuild the indicies one at a time. Try accessing the record in question after deleting each index and you will be able to identify the one that…
There is a runtime for the Amiga version, also. It is not compatible with the Windows version. And yes, porting can be a pain in the … 😉 Jim
Pat, Any idea when the RUNTIME will be released yet? Jim
Thanks for the info Neil. I changed my programs to build a command string and execute it and the access time decreased dramatically. This kind of help almost makes Compu$erve worthwhile :-> Thanks again. Jim
Neil, Thanks for the information. I'll give it a try and see what happens. In regards to the OCTS Advanced Workbook for Superbase 4… where am I mostlikely to find it. Or, who is the publisher? I suppose I can get it from them.. Thanks again, Jim
SBPro4 questions…
Message #40213
Pat, Here's a question for you … I have a "client" database containing more than 1200 records. I set up a "SELECT WHERE LastName LIKE "[J*]"" for example and the next command issued is a "REQUEST" type 20 to present the user with a list of customers matching the wildcard…
Pat, Just out of idle curiousity, will the Runtime be available through local dealers or just direct from Oxxi? Jim
Yeah, my fingers got lost on that one… it is [2w… Sorry 'bout that…
But Pat, are the printer handling functions fixed yet? Hmmm? 😉 Jim
While talking with Mike @ Oxxi, he told me the reason for the current printer handling in SBPro4. It's to keep it the "same" as the Windows version. MS-DOS systems as you are no doubt aware are forced to have a set of printer drivers for each application the user…
I'm looking forward to the new drivers… I just bought a DeskJet 500C. It sure would be nice to be able to use it with Superbase. Jim
Interestingly enough, the file it turned out I was having a problem with was a static (read unchanging) database. It contained a grand total of three records. The file was created and loaded manually. However, I'll keep your info on file for future reference. Thanks much. Jim
Jacquie, I had heard of the development of a Laptop (or notebook) Amiga compatible, however, apparently the developer is having some difficulty licensing the custom chip set from CBM. This is according to the June '92 issue of *AC*. Doesn't look like there's one forthcoming… Jim
SBPro4 & Printer Drivers
Message #39759
Pat, When I talked with Mike the other day, he had mentioned something about Oxxi possibly providing a more expansive set of "printer drivers" than what came with SBPro4. I, for example have a Citizen Tribute 124 which emulates either a Toshiba P351C or Diablo 630. My clients have printers…
Pat, I have 1.01 of SBPro4. I have a stock 2500/30 with a 2091 and Q105s. I talked with Mike @ Oxxi reference my difficulty. I told him I was going to send him a disk with the full implementation of my application on it, however a little bit of…
SBPro4 problems
Message #38565
Pat, I am having a number of problems with Superbase Pro 4. I am running on a 2500 under OS 1.3. I am about to upgrade to 2.04 in the next week. Problems in order are: 1) I have a database called Invoices which is unable to open without an…
Thanks Denny… Small wonder I haven't heard about it… I'll check it out though… Any idea what it is priced like ? Jim
Denny, I noted your mention of a package from HiSoft called "HighSpeed Pascal". I have searched intently for an address/phone number for HiSoft to no avail. I'd appreciate any info you could give me. I've been waiting a long time for a Pascal compiler for the Amiga… Sounds like its…

ATOnce and the A2500/30
Message #19533
I was curious as to whether or not anyone as attempted to use an ATOnce in an A2500/30. Is it possible? Or will I have to shell out the pile of ca$h for the CBM version? Jim
BM2 & CedPro 2.x
Message #26183
Hi… Does anyone have relatively detailed instructions for using CedPro 2.x with Benchmark? I've been away from the computer awhile and frankly I've lost track of where I put them (toooo many disks… not enough labels…). I've downloaded the BM2CED file from the library but the information therein is a…
Any Idea when it will be available? Before or after general availablility of 2.0? Jim
Say Leon… Any ideas as to what the upgrade cost is going to be? Jim Joslin
Don't worry too much… They still exist… It's a small company by anyone's standards so the answering machine is really no suprise. Be patient. Jim Joslin AmiComp Computer Center (Oviedo, Fl)
I didn't think it was intentional, but… Jim
#A2091 problems
Message #16034
We suspected that there might be an incompatibilty caused by the A2091's startup code modifying location zero. We made use of the "BANGZERO" to stuff a zero into that location before running the forms editor and lo and behold… it works just fine. It seems that a number of programs…

SBPro on an A2630
Message #15874
Mark, I have a stock A2500/30 (or A2000, A2630, A2091, 1m Quantum HD, 2 Chinon Floppies). Pretty much a stock configuration right from Commodore. Superbase itself does not lock up… it's the forms editor. I can load oth forms in Superbase but I can't edit one for nothing. BTW: What…

Hi Leon, I've been busy moving (still in Atlanta, soon in Florida) and haven't gotten around to returning your "Reportoire" demo disk. It'll be in the mail to you soon. Anyway, we have a customer asking if (and when) there will be a new release for 1.3. Any comment? Personnally,…
Random File I/O

Chip, Thanks for the speedy response… I'll be getting the TDI compiler as soon as I get my Amiga. I have decided against doing the bulk of my programming in 'C' … ! Since I am relatively experienced in Pascal I think I'm going to do my Amiga development in…
#Random File I/O
Message #106641
Hello, I am relatively new to Amiga-dom and C programming. I have had enourmous difficulty finding information in any of my C or Amiga specific manuals concerning random I/O operations on the Amiga. AmigaBasic seems to have the capability as I have used it on other machines (FIELD, GET#, PUT#,…
