ABSOLUTELY!. The primary advantages of Speedcache+ is that it is a high-performance cache that will efficiently cache CDROMs, Hard Drives and external Bernoulli and Syquest drives all in a single cache. It is rated as one of the fastest, if not fastest, caches on the market (11/92 InfoWorld (Steve Gibson…
I am confident you will see a significant performance improvement using a cache with your drive. I have a 280ms Mitsumi drive and see substantial improvements in performance when using The Norton Speedcache+. I use Encarta, Cinemania, Bookshelf, Just Grandma & Me and CorelDraw and find noticable improvements on all…
No, Smartdrv does not work on CDROM drives or external Bernoulli or Syquest drives. Pat. (Symantec)
Thanks for your kind words. I am confident you'll be just as enthusiastic about Speedcache+ once you receive it and see the performance advantages. Thanks again. Pat. (Symantec)
The Norton Commander 4.0 is currently shipping. It is comparable in speed to the previous version. The performance of Norton Desktop for DOS is more demanding due to the overhead of the graphical environment/Menuing System being used. You get The Norton Speedcache+ absolutely free with the upgrade. A $99.00 product…
The Norton Speedcache+ can be found at most local Egghead, CompUSA, Software Etc. or Computer City stores. You should be sure to check both the Utilities and CDROM section as some stores stock differently. There currently is a $99.00 Norton Utilities competitive ugprade available to all PCTools customers. This is…
Currently there is only one upgrade deal available. The one you mentioned is for previous owners of Norton Commander. By upgrading to the latest version of Norton Commander you will receive The Norton Speedcache+ absolutely FREE. All previous upgrade promotions expired at the end of May. Pat. (Symantec)
You are welcome to visit the NORTON forum for information on CDROM caching. Norton offers The Norton Speedcache+ which provides high-performance hard disk, CDROM and Bernoulli/Syquest caching. A good CDROM cache will noticably improve the performance of any CDROM drive. I'll let you be the judge. Come on by, we'll…
I can't supply information on Lightening CD, however, you may want to look at The Norton Speedcache+. Detailed information is available in the Norton Forum. (GO NORTON) The product provides high-performance caching on hard drives, CD-ROM drives and external drives such as Bernoulli and Syquest drives. It will substantially improve…
I invite you to visit the NORTON forum for information on The Norton SpeedCache+. This product, unlike many others, offers high-performance caching of CDROMS, hard drives and external drives such as Bernoulli and Syquest drives all in one program. I personally have a Mitsumi CDROM drive and have seen substantial…
I too have a Mitsumi LU0005s and a SoundBlaster board. I can not get audio CD's to play and some DOS CD's to play through the SoundBlaster. I have a fairly new SoundBlaster (not Pro or anything fancy). There was no way to get the CD Drive and SoundBlaster connected…
Thanks. I'll give that a shot.
I can live with the relatively slow turning of pages. It's the sound interruptions that are annoying. When Little Critter is talking about snorkling it pauses halfway through his/her/it's sentence and the result is a skipped word or two. I haven't had this sound problem on other CD's, however, I…

I have a 486/50 with a Mitsumi drive and a sound blaster (not pro). The drive I believe is rated at 300ms access and is not a speed demon. I do have it cached with Speed/Cache Plus. When I play Just Grandma and Me I get some pause/skips in certain…
Yes it does. I is an MPC application and uses Windows 3.1 exclusively I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I have a Mitsumi I purchased from Software Etc. It came with very little documentation and no warranty card. I called Mitsumi and they said they don't register their products. I find this odd, but what can I say. The number is at work so I don't have it to…
As far as I know, Norton Utilities will not test CDROM drives. It is limited to testing of Hard Disk Drives. I believe Matsushita is a huge Japanese conglomerate (parent to Panasonic, Quasar, Magnavox and others). I found this out when buying my Quasar CamCorder. I doubt this information helps…
I don't have 20 CD's, Top 10 + Worst 10, yet. :} I would like to vote the following however: TOP Microsoft Cinemania Just Grandma and Me Worst World Atlas (ToolWorks) My humble opinion.
I had the same problem with a Mitsumi drive I purchased at Software Etc. I simply put the "SETVER.EXE" command in the config.sys prior to the driver and it worked fine. I since have upgraded the MSCDEX driver (from one found in the MSLIB section here) and I now longer…
