Jonas, just heard about this SASE thing. Some fo our stuff is on the reel and we'd sure like to see it! SASE overnighted today. Hope you can save one for us. Jim Alabiso no bones productions Atlanta, GA (404) 906-9070, 952-4566
I understand your point ie. Windows vs DOS speed. I also consider the stability of the card in point. For example, the ATI MAch 64 card has great DOS benchmarks I wouldn't own one simply because ATI is in the habit of releasing buggy drivers and setup is a pain…
I ordered it through a dealer friend of mine. They ARE hard to get. Everybody wants them. I think I paid upwards of 375 or so. Yes on the liquid speed. Once you get used to it you never go back!
Actually we have rendered stuff at 1k for 35 millimeter via a Solitaire and it looks wonderful. Jim Alabiso No Bones Productions Atlanta, GA
Gentleman, we been doing 35 mm film for over a year now watching your renderer produce those rich colors on the silver the screen. Currently we are working on our 3rd movie trailer for Warner Brothers Cinemas in the U.K. There have been times we have really had to push…
One of fram renderers is using the 4meg VRAM Stealth and we love it. Its on a P90 and kicks. Its also a breeze to install. In terms of installability/bugs/docs/support I found it the best on the market and we have tried ALOT of cards! (The WORST of which was…
3ds4, flic playing
Message #172707
Try using a different type driver as opposed to just a different size. I have a n Orchid 64 which locks up using the flic drivers so I changed the flic driver to VESA and it works just fine.
Film anim. questions ?
Message #172706
We have a solitaire at our disposal so I can't recommend a service bureau. I can help you with resolution as we do alot of film work. I need to know more about your destination piece. Will your film be cinemascope ( 2.35 anamorphic ) or Acadamy Standard Flat, (…
Isn't there an IPAS called Python made just for that ??? If you don't want to buy the IPAS it look like a long tedious manual job. We tried a similar process with a roll of 35mm movie film moving and bending along a path. Its ashame in a way.…
I must also mention at this point in the thread that even though the current version of LenzFX is network compatible I must agree with a comment earlier that the docs do not mention anything about the network. No offense to Michelle Bousqet, but the docs are rather lacking on…
One of the problems with the Mach 64 is 3dStudios calls to its VESA drivers. There is a TSR here on the forum that disbales the Mach 64 VESA driver. If you run that before you run 3ds it will load a heck of alot quicker. Do a search on…
Thanx, it was rather radical and complicated geometry. Jim Alabiso NOBONES Productions
I will do that. If I recall we had created these dogwood flowers with petals and little pollen spheres in the middle of them. It seemed that the geometry seemed a bit much for Optimize. In the end it seemed a bit much for us so we canned them!
How much Max? Jim Alabiso NOBONES Productions Div. of StarLogic Inc.
Have you noticed that it takes 3ds a bit longer to load the Mach 64 ??? We WERE using an M64 on a P90 but after finding bug after bug we got rid of it and got the Stealth 64 instead. Much cleaner. Our advice is to ask your vendor…
I've had consistent lock up problems with optimize on specific objects where the problem was duplicatable. It seems that there are just some objects that make it go bananas. Jim Alabiso NOBONES Productions Div. of StarLogic Inc.
We would be happy to consider your project. One of our outside animators does live in the Philadelphia area. Jim Alabiso NOBONES Productions Div. of StarLogic, Inc. Atlanta, GA 404-952-4566, 906-9070
Thanks. That pretty much makes my decision for me. The first set of docs was an embarassment to the software industry. Then to follow it up with no printed docs is beyond reasonable bounds. It doesn't suit itself to a production environment where several people may need access to the…
If your going to do any serious worjk in 3D thats worth crossing platforms and Indy just doesnt' cut it. In the SGI world you would want a minimum of an Indigo 2 Extreme. Indy just won't give you anything more than you already have in terms of real significant…

Hi John, long time no tawk. The animation company that is using my animation is asking for 917x688x1.85. I am dumping the .tga frames via DOSTAR to a 4mm Exobyte DAT. On the other end they are reading my tape via TAR onto an Indigo and sending the frames off…

It seems when I load the PAR drivers it blows my video page. When I exit to DOS I get garbage characters on the screen and have to do a couple of mode co80's to clear it up. Its a DX2 486 66, Viper VLB, DOS 6.2, Lantastic, CD-ROM (D),…

PAR/LANTASTIC PROBLEM
Message #100762
Using DOS 6.2 with multiple boot ups and using ASK.EXE to load PAR and/or NET drivers. No matter how I load PAR, ie… between NET drivers and SERVER, or before or after, PAR nails my NET PRINT command and some NET options. Maybe the DPS floks can help us! Jim…

I don't care what they do with the TV as long as they keep showing my Mr Ed reruns.
Great idea but the only thing I've been to in Vegas are the black jack tables. Someone do kick in here and help us narrow down a spot. Jim PolyGone Cafe'
Yes I am. If you go out there would be great to see you and chat. R u going to be there ? Jim
As I understand it MS is beefing up to SI's development staff among other things. So hey John, how are ya? Last time I yacked at you I was in San Fran. After that I went to FL and Atlanta for a while then to Arlington, VA to learn SI.…
I agree somewhat. The bottom line is to sell as many copies of 3DS, Softimage, WIndows or whatever as you can. What it means to the animators out there as 3d software becomes more affordable I don't know. Softimage is pretty much out of the individuals price range considering a…
Yeppers, bought me a few. What really ticks is that I was contemplating buying it when it was at 13 last week and procrastinated. Oh well, thats the name of the game. I would speculate that we will see some of this washing over to SGI also when SI comes…
I do hope AD does pump more resource into 3DS. Although I would prefer to own a Softimage system and an SGI box its a bit heavy on the purse strings. The first thing one should do when MicroSoft buys Softimage is buy Softimage stock! In all seriousness I'm learning…
MicroSoft/Softimage
Message #84008
As a 3DStudio and SoftImage user I am interested in AutoDesk's reaction and users reactions to Microsoft's purchase of SoftImage yesterday. What will it mean in the longterm for Intel processor based animation products. Has anyone heard of any plans for Microsoft to price the product at a more competitive…
I like the idea of each person or group of persons working one specific angle but donating ideas for the whole. I think a storyboard or general outline of the animation would be a good way to get started. Maybe a short story or an ad for AutoDesk. Hmmmm, I…
If I recall correctly the big feature of the z80 over Intel's chip was register swapping. Ouch, the memories are flooding back…
Ah yes, a life… I used to have one somewhere. Digital Morph is one of those still image morphing packages. Ya know, morph a woman's face into a tiger face etc… You have a source TGA and a destination TGA and you align morphing areas with a grid by moving…
Fred, I sent you a message indicating my interest in your project but you may not have received it as I dropped carrier uploading my mail. I'm currently living in San Francisco and will be moving to the east coast, Arlington, VA, in a few weeks. Is Plymouth near Phili?…
I certainly agree. I think there is alot of fine work out there but we do not see alot of it, space limitations, download/upload time, copyright etc… On the other hand I like your idea where some of the forum folks get together and write and produce an animation that…
Of course it would be nice to have a "Cloud in Space" IPAS! I'm sure it could be done with the Smoke IPAS. Congrads on your successful results. By the way FRACTINT is available for download on Compuserve.
Recall the conversation we had on the phone regarding animated maps on human meshes? After creating my human mesh map in Fractal Paint, (2 images, ie 2 keys ), I created the animation map with Digital Morph with super results. I love playing around with this stuff . Jim [PolyGone…

What about that TRS80 Model I with the cassette deck eh? Mass storage for the millions. Loaded with 4k ram. I remember being frustrated with how much memory BASIC took, "especially if you used line numbers with 5 digits", had to save every bit and bite. Thats what got me…
