#How use new fonts? Message #196195
Yesterday I downloaded two PostScript fonts from this forum. They had files with .pfm, .pfb, and .afm extensions. When I tried to access them through ProPage, they were not listed on my FONTS: menu. What do I need to do to use these fonts? A related question: Can I use…
15" Monitor Advice Message #190135
From: Steve Eckhart Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware March 24, 1995 10:34 PM
I am considering buying a 15" monitor for my Amiga and Apple PowerBook 520. I have an A2000 with WB 2.04 and the original chips (except for Agnus where I have MegaChip 2000 installed). Do I need to upgrade my chipset to take advantage of the new monitor? What display…

Dr. Perry, I've got version 2.01S, 2.5.92. Your message doesn't say where to send my US$25 and disk. Does 2.347 fix the schedule date problem? Also, is there support for paper sizes other than A4? Steve Eckhart

Graham, I downloaded this message the day before I left for Saudi Arabia (7 March). I'm currently working on a multiple linear regression package. I've also written a two-way ANOVA package. If you're interested, I'll upload them when I get back (which will be when you receive this message, of…

In the Commodities drawer there are ClickToFront and Autopoint. ClickToFront allows you to double click on a window and bring it to the front. Autopoint activates whatever window your pointer is over. I don't know why you would want to automatically bring the window to the front in a multi-tasking…

Karl, Hope you don't mind my jumping in, especially since I missed the beginning of this thread, but have you checked all the simple things like: Is the sound turned up? Have you connected the audio output jacks to your monitor/sound source? Don't mean to insult you, but sometimes these…

Don, Nope, Radio Shack doesn't sell a PLCC. Neither did any of the "real electronics stores" in Omaha. One guy offered to order one for me, but I went ahead and ordered it from one of the vendors in AmigaWorld. Not Grapevine — they won't take phone orders for less…

Dale, As the resident "hardware expert", maybe you can answer my question. Do I need a special chip puller for the Agnus, or can I go down to Radio Shack and buy a tool that will work? If so, what would it be? Grapevine advertises a PLCC chip puller. Is…

Stuart, I have the Vector and can highly recommend it. However, if you already have a controller, you may want to consider one of the '040 accelerators which aren't that much more than the Vector or GVP 030/40/4 but don't include the controller. Steve

Roy, Thanks for your reply. Can PageSetter rotate text? What about ProPage? After talking further with my wife, she isn't really interested in doing the drawings herself, so I'm leaning heavily toward a DTP product. Does Gold Disk offer an upgrade path from PageSetter to ProPage? Steve
#34126- #Taxing Businesses Message #34182

John, An interesting idea, to pay taxes only for the services you actually "use". As a member of the armed forces, I must ask how much we would charge businesses (or individuals) for the protection provided. Of course, you'll never get anything like that because no congressional representatives would be…

Redmond, While I sympathize with you over the numbers published, I don't think that AmigaWorld really "slimed" you that badly. On page 24, where the results of the tests are published, there is a note which reads, in part, "Results for the M1230XA are skewed becuase the AIBB program would…

#36256 Which C++ version? Message #36287
From: Steve Eckhart Amiga Tech Forum · C Programming August 8, 1993 10:03 PM
Doug, Don't you mean the re-release of C++? Didn't Lattice sell a C++ compiler three or four years ago? I seem to remember AmigaWorld ads with some sort of dragon/lizard/demon creature. I know SAS is not Lattice, but it is where the compiler started. Steve

Doubles vs. floats Message #36163
From: Steve Eckhart Amiga Tech Forum · C Programming August 1, 1993 11:45 PM
Mark, It's actually faster to use doubles than it is to use floats (although it takes twice the memory, of course). That's because the system promotes the floats to doubles and back whenever it performs any math operations. Steve

Dom, My Vector came with a 68030 with an MMU. You have the option of purchasing it without the MMU for a little less money. Also, I've seen advertisements for clock speeds up to 40 MHz, but I don't know if IVS is shipping them yet. Steve

Will the debugger have the ability to dump the contents of the 68882? What I'm asking is, if I have a floating point number and compile with -m8, will the debugger "know" this and update the value for example when I'm doing a watch of the variable? Does this question…

If you want my copy, send me mail and I'll find it. Then I'll send it to you for $5.00. I got so exasperated trying to use it (most of the example code crashes when you try to run it) that I don't care if I ever see it again.…

A mail order company called Briwall sells all five RKMs for $99. That's a pretty good deal. If you can only afford a few of the books now, buy Libraries and Devices first. These have tutorial style articles that discuss how to use the Amiga's system software. Includes and Autodocs…
