#122534 Micropolis drives Message #122537
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 14, 1995 8:01 PM
Norman, I just spoke to someone with an A/V (gold) 9G who said that it has worked -perfectly- with the Flyer and he's filled up 95% of the drive. My 9G A/V gold was working well until it got funky and then died totally. It is to be replaced (hopefully…
#122505 Backup Questions Message #122527
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 14, 1995 6:09 PM
Barry, With carts going at $125, the MO drives don't seem very cost effective. How much is a DAT tape — $10-15?
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 14, 1995 1:12 PM
Hank, Have you heard about FG Hi-8 (control L) module. Harold was supposed to send it to me, never did, and when I called him he said it didn't work yet. Is anyone using this? I thought someone said they were.

#122433 Initial 4.06 Comments Message #122491
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 14, 1995 1:08 PM
Mark, First, I might be interested in doing the anniversary party if the price is right. What was your price (that they considered too high)? Th That would give me an idea if I can come to a reasonable fee for a one-camera shoot. Re 4.06 — Which Micropolis drives…
#122395 Toaster Paint Message #122490
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 14, 1995 1:03 PM
Norman, How do you like the Supercam? It's the Hi-8 tape loss that's prevented me from getting a higher-end Hi-8 model (I use an L2). Think I'll wait for the next technology (digital tape?).
#122368 Toaster Paint Message #122385
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 13, 1995 7:20 PM
Frank, FYI, I'm pretty sure AlphaPaint has been available mailorder for between $400-500. $699 is list price…

Chris, You could have backed up to tape and not told anyone!
#122332 #Toaster Paint Message #122352
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 13, 1995 1:42 PM
Chris, Why not record to tape at the same time as D to D recording? It might not be as "hair raising" if you lose the data…
#122320 #Toaster Paint Message #122351
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 13, 1995 1:40 PM
Norman, I have recorded directly to the Flyer as well, but did a -backup tape recording- at the same time! All this requires is pushing a record button, and I highly recommend that you try it in the future! 🙂

Tom, Lunch sounds fine…but no -TOAST-! Let's plan on wednesday, September 20th, at noon at the VTU booth #117. Other Toaster/Flyer/CIS members invited.

Hank, I did the same test and the reverse clip was not as sharp and kind of "jerky" looking. (?)

From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 12, 1995 5:29 PM
Tom, I'd very much like to -talk- to someone about the Flyer rather than -typing- all the time! 🙂 I'm not sure yet, but I'll probably be at the Expo Wednesday, Sept. 20th. Hope to see you there, or let me know when a good time would be for you…

From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 11, 1995 8:56 PM
Mark, According to Sam Sawyer at Micropolis, it was the 2 and 3G drives that had a bad bunch of bearings. He said there was no problem with the 9G and that it was very reliable. I then reminded him that my 9G had DIED and that I was awaiting…

From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 11, 1995 12:07 PM
Chuck, >"It's time to call about those (G drive updates…" What about us 4G Seagate ownwers? Also, any news on the revised 9G Micropolis A/V? I just had the misfortune to peruse the Micropolis messages. It seems to be a compendium of irate customers, dying and dead drives, 5-week waiting…
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 11, 1995 12:00 PM
Dean, >"I don't have a way of doing side-by-side comparisons" Why not make a project with a regular clip with processed clips? I haven't tried this, but a clip processed with just a 1X command would give an identical comparison…

Hank, I processed all of my clips 3:00 minutes into the clip. I tried Slo-mo, 2X fast, strobe, and backwards; they all worked fine. BTW, I did only one second of the clip…
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 10, 1995 1:59 PM
I've founf that -all- the processed clips are not as sharp a the original. I tried a backwards clip, same speed, and played it next to the original — no contest. Is this inherent in the system or can it be improved?
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 10, 1995 1:51 PM
Dean, I have been clicking on the drive's crouton without showing the path in the title. IOW, I click on drive B, put in a title, and this works most of the time. Occassionally I get a blank clip after a screen flash…

Dean, I don't want to change the name of the -clip-, but the clip's duplicate in the project screen. Obviously, changing the crouton -and- name would be b est, with a way of identify {ing it as a dupe of another clip (with different in and out points). I think…

Use the Flyerproc. Arexx macro. It works, and is easy to use!
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 9, 1995 10:32 PM
I'll second that! The re-copying of clips (cutting room) is a tediously innefective but crucial function! Chuck, ya gotta give us -some- way to avoid this — changing crouton images and/or names shoulx* be sim {xD { { {simple! (line noise!)
#121772 #Slow Mo Message #121789
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek September 8, 1995 5:22 PM
Hank, The process worked fine for me. I tested -all- of them. Despite a slight loss of resolution (well, a big loss) they looked pretty good.

Flyer inoperative Message #119777
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek August 21, 1995 9:27 PM
This morning I got to my studio and my Flyer would do nothing! No playback of clips, no digitizing — nada. Luckily, I was between projects and there was nothing crucial on my drives, so I re-formatted both video drives. This worked. Has anyone else had this type of behavior…

Tom, I assume the FG Hi-8 model will work only with RCTC, or will it work with any LANC VTR?
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek August 21, 1995 9:20 PM
Tom, I think there are two versionss of Flite Gear — one for the A4000 and one for the A2000. I think this is mostly because of the AGA vs non-AGA issues. I'm looking forward to using it; my dealer is waiting for the 2000 version.

Gary, Thanks for the contrast/tweak. Re peak mode — I often shoot performers in theatrical lighting, and find that auto peak mode, even with exposure turned all the way down, results in often washed out scenes. I have to use manual exposure and adjust as I go, which is not…
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek August 21, 1995 2:00 PM
Gary, YES! My L-2 has lousy contrast in the viewfinder! HOW DID YOU FIX IT? Any other L-2 tips would be appreciated. For one thing, I'm very disappointed with the auto exposure in the PEAK mode. I still get a lot of burnout when I try this and usually have…
#119714 #Time to Copy Clip Message #119728
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek August 21, 1995 1:56 PM
Chuck, The long copying time in the cutting room makes it very tedious to record a long clip and then "cut" it into smaller ones. Often I will simply -duplicate- a long clip many times and then change the in and out points on the several cshorter clips. This takes…

Tom, Great news about RC TC support! My Canon L2 supports RCTC and I could use it for batch digitizing { with Flite Gear. I will definitely buy FG at this point (if RC module works). I also have a Future Video Controller. Will all this work with the A2000…

Fred, You're absolutely correct in your statement that NLE companies are -deceiving- buyers with their claims of cheap NLE systems. I don't think you bought a Flyer for $2900, probably $3500. I paid $4300, but only $2700 for 9gig drive. My entire Flyer/Toaster system cost almost 20,000.
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek August 19, 1995 10:24 PM
Fred, Besides the 3 9gig drives, what does the $25,000 Avid include? Computer? Which model?
#119544 Audio clip stutters Message #119603
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek August 19, 1995 1:40 PM
Barry, My stuttering problems seem to coincide with the excessive heat spell here in NYC. The heat seems to have built up in my studio so that the A/C gets it down to about 78 degrees, instead of the usual 72. Any ideas about getting these drives cooler would be…
#119483 Flyer Tips & Tricks Message #119534
From: Sam Kanter Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek August 19, 1995 12:20 AM
Mark, Good idea — re-reading the manual. I never saw the c & V feature in the manual, but read it in a VTU tutorial about insert editing. It was last month's article about sound on the Flyer. The new Flyer column this month was a bit disappointing. Much of…

Mark, Tips and Tricks is a great idea (instead of us all bitching about NT all the time!). Here's an obvious one that I didn't know about till I read it in a magazine: You can -copy- and -paste- time code numbers by clicking on anywhere in TC window, and…

Jerry, I too have a, personal project (one of the main reasons I bought a Flyer) that I'm anxious to start working on. The project includes -hundreds- of short (few second) clips. I'd like to start digitizing them, but wonder if there is any reason for waiting until 4.1 is…
