"…. that the drives currently available were not even remotely capable of working with the Flyer (that was spring of 94), but that capable drives at the 3.7 MB lower limit for the Flyer to do "D2 allowed" compressed video would be available by fall — we were working with…
#Addendum: Luma/Chroma
Message #111614
Chuck, after posting my prior note regarding luma level, chroma level and phase problems, I did the following: In Flyer: loaded the ColorBars file into the Proj window and played it: the amplitudes are a bit better than in the clip I had recorded, but the phase shift is still…
Flyer Luma/Chroma Shifts
Message #111608
Chuck, please advise about how to resolve the following problems: I recorded color bars to the Flyer, using an external, calibrated source, and monitored that signal with a Magni Waveform/Vectorscope. Then made a clip from that footage. In playing it back, the luma levels for the grey and white bars…
"…..After using "halfspeed" in Toasterpaint, movement in my slo-mo segment seemed very jittery, the overall picture quality also suffered….." I tried the half-speed, and was thoroughly dissapointed. For one, it took about 5 minutes per frame to render (25MHz accelerator). But most importantly, the quality of the finished clip was…
#Flyer/Edit Controllers
Message #110993
Chuck, how do I obtain a complete description of the Flyer/Octopus cable serial A and B ports? Specifically, are they fully compatible with the protocols used by VCR edit controllers? Professional edit controllers for Betacam and Panasonic MII decks use RS422 protocol, with specific commands sent out to control source…
#Flyer Sucess Story!

"….. I am probably taking my life in my hands be openly expressing my enthusiasm for my Flyer……" Not at all. Iam heartened by your success with the Flyer. It bodes well for the rest of us. Is this experience on your A2000, or the A4000? "….2. Always turn off…
########### Can anyone offer any tips on printing from the Amiga? Until recently, I've never even had a printer hooked up to my 4000, and have done all my printing by transferring everything over to the PC. Now that I've hooked up an HP DeskJet 550C to the 4000, I'm…

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ >any negative comments should probably be sent via mail< Why? The best thing about cyberspace is pure opinionated, down-and-dirty, information. We LIVE for negative comments!! (OK, positive stuff is good too). $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I agree…to an extent. But, in our highly litiguous society, poorly phrased "negative comments" run the risk…
Fred, regarding your problems with "purple clips", previously recorded clips not playing back, and frozen frames during transitions: this is only a stab in the dark, but it may be that the Flyer may not be matching color frames properly, and the discontinuity is Sc phase (or SC/H phase) is…
Fred, I (we all) appreciate your posting your discoveries about your Flyer. Do you have any info about slo-mo capability….loading a motion clip at regular speed and having it come out at, say, half speed? Nick
Vance, if an earlier thread from a VTU Expo attendee who says he heard Jenison to clearly imply that "… there will be PC, Mac and SGI Flyers down the road…" is corroborated by other Expo attendees, then this is not the start of just another rumor, but rather some…
Andrew, are you certain about the current release "(not being able) to do full motion video"? The Flyer would be nothing without that capability. Also, the comment about "…it only receives power from it's host computer…". Unless Newtek has decided to put a cpu etc on the Flyer board, it…
Tony, is the delay of the Flyer till March hearsay, or official (are you asssociated with Newtek?). If you are on the Newtek team: why isnt Newtek considering shipping just the Flyer now, and then ship TP and LW whenever they finally become qualified? Is it because the Flyer "odds…
#Alpha Paint Review
Message #95275
Wayne, thanks for the response. If you do upload that review again you might consider having that second version compressed, if you can, with PKZIP. Nick
They may very well ship to 4000 owners initially, but the individual that I cited earlier as getting the call from Newtek has a 2000 (which the Newtek rep confirmed during the phone call), and he was told to expect his Flyer in December. Nick
Last time I faxed to them the number was 1-913-228-8001….that was six months ago. Nick
Your guess about "another month or so (before Flyers start being shipped)" may turn out to be accurate. I have heard that Newtek has called people to confirm their orders and to tell them that their's will be shipped in December. Nick
#TPaint/ Jagged Lines
Message #94259
Tried using TPaint recently and was unable to get rid of jagged edges of drawn lines. The application was, basically, a road map. The roads were entered with the continuous freehand tool, either one pixel wide or wider, and the border with wider brushes. Does anyone know how the clean,…
