Scott, The color seems fine on Photoshop and Corel. The video is super! I don't know what reviews you read but I'm very happy. Also it plays MPEG files! WOW! I think the video question comes from the 16 bit buffer (65K colors). That mode offers the highest video performance…

Folks, I am doing a animation that need two LenzFX entries in Video Post. The first is a simple flare that is continuously on for aircraft landing lights. The second is a flare, same lighting conditions, except size 500, and on once every 60th and 70th frame then turned off…
#196108 Matrox Millennium 4m? Message #196213
Tim, Just be sure and but the 4meg version to start with. Only it can be upgraded. If you buty a 2meg version your stuck with it. I can't see the purpose of the frame grabber card if your like me and have a PAR board and a TBC/IV card…
Yep, PAR with only one 1.6gig 2217 drive. Its not enough! Gotta have the PVR now with about 3 9gig Micropolis drives. That will give about 2 hrs of video storage (4 min per gig). I want to use the PVR on a dual or quad DEC ALPHA as a…
Tim, I can't judge relative to the Diamond card but I had an ATI Mach64 card and the Mill screams. I am still having trouble with the basic Windows drivers, but DOS apps (3DS) and Win NT stuff are solid. The VESA 2.0 extensions are killer. Makes the games (frame…
Scott and Mike, I just got a Millenium, and while I have had some probs with the basic Windows drivers, the NT drivers are good. For DOS it screams. I confess, I bought it for the game improvement with VESA 2.0. Its lots faster than the ATI Mach64 I had.…

John, I'm taking quite a lot of my raw video tape now and dumping it to the PAR via S-video . I can then directly edit it with Razor or just chop it up for use with rotoscoping with 3DS. While I can only fit about 6 minutes of video…

Thanks for the note John. Being a newbie to most of this stuff (18 mos experience) I've only dealt with the linear thing: Fast Machine, and the PAR. Thats what we can afford right now. Here's the plan: a quad or 8-plex DEC Alpha box for rendering to the PVR…

Theo, Let me know how it goes. I got to working with Quicktime last night after your note and got it cleaned up to 30 fps on my Pentium. Still its not like the PAR board with Beta or SVHS output… Can't have everything! Bye!
#194595- #QuickTime conversion Message #194898
Theo, Its probably an OK IPAS. I've heard that people have had good results with it. I don't have personal experience with it but I do with Quicktime. Quicktime can be a little flaky sometimes. But if the system is designed for Quicktime you should be ok. Your idea sounds…

Steve, Sorry I havn't sent you any material (you know what I mean). I've been awful busy shooting and producing videos lately. I'll send some stuff to you whan I get a chance this week. Also, got a proposal to do a major project for a video and a CD-ROM…

#Max, what Else? Message #194098
Greg, Thanks for the note. Now for the 64 dollar question… I hate to ask, but I just gotta…well, let me ask it this way… Are there going to be any algorithms that will keep me from running MAX on a DEC Alpha? I have found some great deals on…
Robert, Thanks for the info, I understand the drivers will try to be uploaded by this weekend from Jonas. Thanks. Mark
Robert, I hate to ask, but are y'all working on the drivers for the Matrox Millenium? And, if you are, when will they be released? I sure you've been asked this before but I couldn't find a note about it. Mark

Greg, Sorry, didn't mean to get on a soap box the other day. Its just that most of the people I talk to seem to be having a hard time making a living at animation work. That puts a real crimp on upgrading equipment and software like World Builder or…
No prob! I am still trying to find some time to generate some WB samples with 3DS objects in them. I try and get to it ASAP. Cya!

Scott, Yeah, I've heard a lot od stuff lately. I think we will just have to wait and see after the dust settles. I'm going to a Autodesk sponsored MAX demo in Austin, TX tomorrow so may be I can get some true facts. Later!
Dear Greg, Its true that that the high-end stuff will always be better. That follows the premise of the last 20% of performance requires 80% of the effort and money. Thats true of animation, cars, aircraft (which is how I make my main living) and technology in general. Plus I…
So, like I should have not bought a Millenium huh? Gag me. I'll call Vibrant today and get the scoop. Oh well…at least the games will run good…
Greg, I have not seen the new HP, I'll try and get a demo. About the III, for our purposes its super. I do work for a gov't organization that does photo intel work. We've proved that the resolution of the scanner is equal to the resolution of the film.…

Hi Y'all! I've got a Microtek III and its great. Can do 2400X2400 with interpolation. Its just a step below the drum scanners.
Y'all, Vistapro is now just a toy compared to WorldBuilder. I've got both and WB is truly amazing. Grass with proper shadows that moves in the breeze, water ripples, fog, that sort of thing. I'll upload some more samples over the weekend. Later everyone!

Dennis, Thanks for the info. Typically I record the video and audio separately using the PAR VCR control. This syncs the audio to the video correctly. I then have a 16 bit, 44.1 Khz wav file and an ANI file that are associated. Plug into Razor Pro and voila!, instant…

Dennis, I've got a nice, brand new P90 board and processor I'll let you have real cheap (with warranty!). Do yourself a favor and upgrade your hardware. Granted I know how it is with the money thing but only a Pentium will be able to do the real-time rendering with…

I thinks its a great idea! Also I found a vendor who will sell the vaunted Intergraph OpenGL cards! Really cool! A DEC Alpha that will beat the SGI's into the ground! Later!
Dennis, Try running NT in standard VGA and see if it works. Also ATI has the 1.55 version drivers out. You can get them here on cserve. Also, you weren't clear about you config. Do you dual boot (Win and NT)? Dd you reformat the hard disk to NTSF or…

Damien, I've never heard of a project that big! Egads! I can tell you that 64 megs will not be enough. Maybe even 128 won't either if you're running a lot of IPAS's. You might be running into a problem with the face limit. Check the 3ds.set file and up…

Scott, Sounds good. I'm in the process of assembling all the MAX components I can find like P6's, DEC Alphas, video boards, etc. to build high-end systems. I have the Omnicomp literature and I'll look at it again tomorrow. I'm not sure it supports the Hoops (HDI) interface which is…

Don, How are you saving your files? TGA's are around 752×480. The limitation is the printer. Anything larger than 720×720 won't make any difference to the printer. I've got the Epson and a Primera Pro dye-sub. I've tried all kinds of resolutions and ended up with just basic TGA files.…

Yeah, the Triton chip set has some probs. It was in the week's Infoworld. I'll ask about the buffering. Also should I be looking for the dual pipeline like SGI's? I'm not sure about this. For Alphas it would be good. For Pentiums..ummmm….P6's…unknown….but I'll look. Yea, you seekers of speed,…
