#136557 Diccionario espanol Message #136578
Andy, We (New Horizons) have a spanish dictionary that can be used with ProWrite. It works with ProWrite, QuickWrite, and Flow. As with our other dictionaries (German, French, Swedish, and British English) you can order it for $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping/handling. We never publicized our Spanish dictionary since we never…
#Quarterback 6.0 Message #71497
Central Coast Software is pleased to announce a new version of Quarterback, the best selling hard disk backup program for the Amiga. Quarterback 6.0 adds several new features and enhancements, including: * Faster compression during backups–in most cases compressing as fast as it saves to floppy drives. * Support for…
#125760 Multi_Backer update Message #126312
From: Central Coast Software Amiga User Forum · Business Apps December 28, 1993 11:18 AM
Gary, I haven't looked at your "Multi_Backer" macro, but just in case you didn't know about it you can use the "ProgVersion" AREXX command in Quarterback to determine which version of Quarterback you are running under, and take appropriate steps depending upon the version. That way you can have one…
#66716 QB 5.0.4 buffer Message #66743
John, Nearly all SCSI adaptors for the Amiga can only DMA to 24-bit memory (they were originally designed for the A-2000, which doesn't have 32-bit memory). Therefore, for compatibility's sake we made the "Any" memory option mean 24-bit memory. Unfortunately this means that if none of your expansion memory (i.e.…
#62311 QBTools Dlx Message #62320
Dominick, I can't say about the specific instance you mention, but (due to the design of AmigaDOS) often when one problem is fixed, it will cause another problem to surface. If this new problem is with a file that Quarterback Tools has already processed, you won't know about it until…
#61932 #QBTools Dlx Message #61954
Your statement that AB-Tools is 2 to 3 times faster than Quarterback Tools 2.0 had me a bit puzzled, since I don't recall it being nearly that much faster. So I did some checking… When all options to check data blocks are off, their speeds are very similar (Quarterback Tools…
#61759 #QBTools Dlx Message #61824
While we are looking into having that feature built into the next version, we do provide an AREXX script with Quarterback 5.0 that does this already. Admittedy you must run it from the Macro menu (and I assume you have Kickstart 2.0 or later, so you automatically have AREXX), but…
#61676 QBTools Dlx Message #61689
Dominick, As you surmised, the most likely reason for the longer scanning time in Quarterback Tools is because it does more checks than AB-Tools does. There are some options in Quarterback Tools that you can use to speed things up a bit (for example, turning off the option to check…
#61595 #QBTools Dlx Message #61616
Jim, >>ABT does things that Quarterback Tools Deluxe does not About the only thing they do that we don't is get to the Rigid Disk Block level. We did look into this, but in our investigations it seemed to be of dubious value. Conversly, there are many things we do…
#109683 #WP Message #109883
Gary, You are confusing excellence! with ProWrite. Microsystems Software (the makers of excellence!) are out of business, but our company (New Horizons, the makers of ProWrite) are doing fine. By the way, we have a vendor support section in the AMIGAVENDOR conference on CompuServe if you have any questions about…
#106809 #Wordprocessing Message #107094
Rod, Our company makes ProWrite for the Amiga, which has quite a few features, and has a retail price of $99.95 (and mail order prices are usually much lower). However, if price is a real consideration, we also make QuickWrite (retails for $50.00) which is a very fast basic word…
#59381 QuarterBack 5.x Message #59393
Vern, Well, 3.8 MB per second isn't bad, but our Touchdown-100 tape drives crank out almost 6 MB per second. So relative to our drive, the Tandberg is "slow." 🙂 James Bayless Central Coast Software A division of New Horizons Software, Inc.
#59285 QBTools 2.0.1 Patch Message #59327
Dominick, Whether you want to update the programs on your original disks is up to you. However, should we upload any future patches, they will need to be applied to the most recent version. (In other words, if we upload a version 2.0.2 patch, it will need to be applied…
#59200 #QBTs update Message #59219
Gracia, I think I see the problem. You must enter the number as "201.xxxxx", not "201xxxxx". (i.e. there must be a period between the "201" and the second number).
#59187 #QBTools update Message #59198
>>It's as if they've taken the weekend off. Dominick, While all of us here at New Horizons/Central Coast are Amiga fans, we do not work on weekends. We log in here every single _weekday_ and answer questions as quickly as we can. Yours is the first I've heard of the…
#59184 QBTools update Message #59197
>>All I can say is, CENTRAL COAST, WHERE ARE YOU? We are right here. But we are here only on the weekdays, so if you post a question on Saturday or Sunday, there won't be an answer until Monday at the earliest.
#59183 #QBTools update Message #59196
Robert, Yes, we do test things before they are ever uploaded. Please see my previous messages (or read the "Read_This" file that came with the updater) for info on how to correctly enter the serial number. James Bayless Central Coast Software A division of New Horizons Software, Inc.
#59145 QBTools update Message #59195
Don, The correct format for the serial number is "201.xxxxx" where "xxxxx" is the number on back of your original QTD disk–the part after the "200." In other words, the serial number you must enter must be exactly like the number on back of your master disk with the single…
#59152 #QBTs update Message #59194
When you enter your serial number in the requester, the first three digits _must_ be "201", rather than "200". Although this is explained in the "Read_This" file, many people failed to notice it. Once your serial number (with this change) is entered, the "OK" button will be enabled.
Donovan, Good point, thanks for mentioning that. The name of the Quarterback Tools Deluxe updater is QTD201.LZH. James Bayless Central Coast Software A division of New Horizons Software, Inc.
There is an updater package in this section's library which updates Quarterback Tools Deluxe 2.0 to version 2.0.1. This package corrects minor problems in the programs: Quarterback Tools, Replicator, File Eraser, and Keystroke Finder.
Rick, While I can say that we are working on the next version of ProWrite, I can't yet say what the new features are going to be. I'll post info in our section in AmigaVendor (section 5) as soon as I can. James Bayless New Horizons Software, Inc.
Dominick, While we do sell tape drives, we do not sell tapes. 150 and 250 meg tapes for our tape drive should be available from any local computer store or office supply store. James Bayless New Horizons Software, Inc.
Dom, I think it wasn't so much AmigaWorld as it was the reviewer. Doing a simple-minded search-and-replace test is easy to time, so the reviewer probably thought it would be good to include it. Never mind that it is hardly indicative of real-world performance. James Bayless New Horizons Software, Inc.
Dominick, Creating a document that is just 1000 copies of the word "the" and seeing how long it takes to change them all to "and" is not a good speed barometer of a word processor. ProWrite is optimized for speed of user input, interaction, real-world usage, and is quite fast…
#99545 ProWrite Message #99597
Jonathan, That is something we are still looking into. But I am sure if it adds useful functionality to ProWrite, it will be in the next release. James Bayless New Horizons Software, Inc.
#99419 #ProWrite Message #99420
Mike, As a matter of fact, ProWrite 3.3 works quite well with th AGA chip set. It lets you open 256 color screens, and renders pictures to that screen that are very close to the original (it uses the closest available screen color when mapping from picture colors to screen…
Brad, Yes, you can upgrade to the new Quarterback Tools Deluxe package, which we just started shipping. Drop by our section in AMIGAVENDOR (section 1) for more info (there is a message there detailing everything that is new, and how to upgrade). James Bayless Central Coast Software A division of…
#56302 #Upgrades? Message #56344
Bill, New Horizons purchased Central Coast Software a couple of years ago and moved the company to our headquarters in Austin, Texas. The numbers on the back of your boxes are probably the old Colorado numbers (where Central Coast Software used to be located). There are new versions of both…
Quarterback Tools 2.0 has much more extensive AREXX support than version 1.5. You can control just about any aspect of the program from AREXX. James Bayless Central Coast Software A division of New Horizons Software, Inc.
#55278 #Please reply! Message #55298
Dominick, The upgrade notices have gone out, but you can order by phone right now if you like. You don't need the upgrade form, and you don't need to send in your master disk. James Bayless Central Coast Software A division of New Horizons Software, Inc.
#54994 #Please reply! Message #55099
Dominick, re. Quarterback Tools Deluxe vs. AmiBack Tools Well, obviously I'm going to be biased, but here goes: Just about every thing AmiBack Tools does, Quarterback Tools 2.0 does also (except for the disk wiping stuff, but we include a separate program for that). Of course, there is no way…
Our database shows you being registered for Quarterback, but not Quarterback Tools, so we will need proof of ownership and your registration number before we can upgrade you. The easiest way to do this is to make a photocopy of the disk label (showing the registration number), and fax that…
#54874 #Please reply! Message #54882
Sorry for the delay in replying to your messages. We've been debating on offering competitive upgrades to owners of other commercial disk utility packages, but hadn't finalized the price until now, hence the delay. We've decided to offer competitive upgrades to Quarterback Tools Deluxe for $50.00 (plus shipping & handling).…

Jonathan, No, we are still publishing A-Talk III. James Bayless New Horizons Software, Inc.
#54660 ProWrite 3.3.2 Message #54716
Denny, Yes, I know about the AmigaWorld announcement. However, it is incorrect (don't want to get into details, but that announcement was due to a misunderstanding, and it should be corrected in a future issue). We are still publishing A-Talk III. James Bayless New Horizons Software, Inc.
Roy, Well, that report is simply not true. We are still publishing A-Talk III, and we do not forsee anything that should change that. James Bayless New Horizons Software, Inc.
#54533 ProWrite 3.3.2 Message #54555
Ronald, We don't generally announce new upgrades to our products until they are less than a month from shipping, so I can't say anything about possible new features in A-Talk III at this time. Sorry. James Bayless New Horizons Software, Inc.

Jonathan, No, we have not sold A-Talk III. I don't know where you may have heard this, but we are still publishing the product, and have no intention of dropping it from our product line. James Bayless New Horizons Software, Inc.
Harry, Yeah, that was kind of funny. Just after I posted the Quarterback Tools Deluxe announcement on CompuServe, I sent out an EMail message to everyone at the company telling them that we had finally officially announced it and that we could talk about it. Unfortunately, the person who answered…
Dominick, I'm sorry you are so unhappy that we are finally releasing Quarterback Tools Deluxe. I can understand your frustration–we wanted to get the product out earlier ourselves, but we also want it to be _right_. If you read the notice I posted, you'll see that Quarterback Tools Deluxe is…

Denny, Mark was logging on to GEnie on his own time, and it was not an official support medium of ours. Mark has probably not logged in for a while since he is hard at work in school now. More than that I can't say, since I've never been on…
Denny, I don't know what you mean about us not logging on. We log on to our support area here on CompuServe (in AmigaVendor) every day. Some questions may take a while to figure out an answer, but we do answer. As to our support area on "another network," we…
#85077 Tape Drive Wanted Message #85170
From: Central Coast Software Amiga User Forum · Classified January 15, 1993 10:55 AM
Steven, Yes, Quarterback does allow you to restore individual partitions from a tape that has several different ones on it. Use the "Space" command in the "Tape Control" requester to advance (space) the tape to the partition you want to restore (incidentally, the "Tape Control" requester is also where you…
