#7632 LW screen fonts Message #7651
From: Geoffrey Brandt Adobe · Printers/Hardware January 5, 1989 12:56 AM
I apparantly have Apples'. How do I go about getting Adobe's screen fonts for the basic Laserwriter set? thanks, -gb
From: iAN JOSEPH Adobe · Adobe Illustrator January 5, 1989 12:49 AM
}iThe problem is NOT that the colours are dithered but rather that NO color is displayed. There is ONLY a B&W dithered pattern! Furthermore when creating a custome{_ color NO color is displayed on a monitor, e.g. 100% cyand (or any other color) is not cuyan but rather a B&W…
LC890 Utility Message #7649
From: larry buckmaster Adobe · Printers/Hardware January 4, 1989 11:31 PM
David, I've uploaded LC890.ARC to this forum. It'll take a couple of days I think, the sysop has to take a look at it first. Now if we can only get a utility to switch some of the other things…. like which bin the printer should use.

From: Myron Havis Adobe · Printers/Hardware January 4, 1989 10:45 PM
Bill, If you're using MSWORD there are two great Postscript drivers available inthe MSAPP Forum. PSPPRD.ARC & PSLPRD.ARC. These allow bin switching via software and have 20 different font size selections. I agree with you about the courtesy of the NEC tech support people. Unfortunately, they don't seem to get…

#7601 Fonts to EPS?? Message #7645
From: Steve Werner Adobe · DeskTop Publishing January 4, 1989 9:37 PM
Dale, There is a new product from Taylored Graphics called FontLiner. It will convert any Fontographer-generated font (which means all fonts on the Mac except those from Adobe and Bitstream) into an Adobe Illustrator file. The character set of the font is converted to an Illustrator graphic which can then…
#7612 nec LC890 w/ Mac Message #7644
From: Steve Werner Adobe · Printers/Hardware January 4, 1989 9:36 PM
Bill, I beg to disagree with you about whose responsibility it is to support how to use printer-specific functions. If you're having problems with how to change paper trays, it's your PRINTER MANUFACTURER'S responsibility to provide either software or panel controls to make such changes. It can't be Adobe's. There…
IBM/Mac Differences Message #7643
From: Keith Sprunger Adobe · Typeface Lib/IBM January 4, 1989 9:29 PM
I am using a local print shop to print some PageMaker output for me. They take my MS-DOS disk and convert it to Mac, then print on laser printer. However, some of the Adobe names seem to be different on my IBM than theirs on the Mac (also Adobe). For…
#7611 Reversed TIFF Files Message #7642
From: Thom Hartmann Adobe · DeskTop Publishing January 4, 1989 9:07 PM
I couldn't see the difference in the fax, but that's interesting to know. More and more I'm operating on the assumption that the problem is TOPS. Is there anyway you can upgrade to 2.1 and see if you still have the problem? I don't think there's any charge for the…

Lori, please do. I don't want to bother her if she's so busy, but you might want to let her know that if she passes by our way (New York City) she's most welcome to visit us again. Eli
From: Tim Coussens Adobe · Typeface Lib/IBM January 4, 1989 6:19 PM
Why is it I get large spaces in-between words when using any font but Helvetica and Times Roman when ever I use PageMaker, Windows Write, Ami etc. I have the screen fonts for the other typefaces installed and it looks like the font, but obviously there is something wrong with…

Geoffrey, I would have to assume you have Apple's versions of these screen fonts, especially if they came with your IINT. You can tell for sure by checking to see if you have the style variations of the various fonts, for example o you have Palatino Bold, Italic and Bold…

From: Lori Haines Adobe · Getting started January 4, 1989 6:00 PM
Carlos, You are not "missing" the Pantone color file for uncoated paper, the mentioning of the uncoated file was an error in the manual. This one file should be sufficient and your printer can assist you with any concerns you have WRT color output, paper stock, weight, etc, etc. As…

From: Lori Haines Adobe · Printers/Hardware January 4, 1989 5:59 PM
Jon, Not to jump in on this, but in your example of incomplete font families you cited the absence of ITC Garamond Light and ITC Clearface Black– both faces are currently available from Adobe. Anyhow, I have forwarded your suggestion, that we add more weights to existing font families, to…

From: Lori Haines Adobe · Typeface Library January 4, 1989 5:59 PM
Scot, Sorry, I don't know the difference between StuffIt 1.5 and 1.5.1. You may or may not have noticed that I jumped right from version 1.2 to 1.5.1. "Bug fix" rings a bell though, and from what I understand 1.5 had not been around long when 1.5.1 took its place.…

John – Thanks for the very interesting notes on DEC toner, particularly the "first aid" section! I have been told (by NEC) that the NEC toner particle size is so small that it will fly right through a vacuum cleaner bag. They use a special vacuum cleaner to clean NEC-800…

Didn't know anyone made a Silentwriter driver, but that sure is a point in favor of PM! Wish Word and some of the other vendors would do the same. ……..Best, – Bill W.

Ian, I'm not in any way connected with Adobe other than beta testing Illustrator 88 for them. What you describe is not a problem. Illustrator 88 is ONLY capable of displaying dithered colors that approximate PMS or Process selections. Regards, Bruce Carillon

Jon – Thanks for the notes, but more depth is exactly what I'm not interested in. Nobody in this navel-sniffing industry seems to understand that they have sold these things to people who want to make them work well and efficiently at a few simple basic repetitive tasks. I want…
