}iThe problem is NOT that the colours are dithered but rather that NO color is displayed. There is ONLY a B&W dithered pattern! Furthermore when creating a custome{_ color NO color is displayed on a monitor, e.g. 100% cyand (or any other color) is not cuyan but rather a B&W…

Message #7623
Jesse, Since your problem is likely the monitor, I'd try out 1.7 first, then if you are still having problems, leave me with your address, phone #, and registration # (VIA EASYPLEX) and I'll add you to the list. Lori Haines
Ian, I'm not in any way connected with Adobe other than beta testing Illustrator 88 for them. What you describe is not a problem. Illustrator 88 is ONLY capable of displaying dithered colors that approximate PMS or Process selections. Regards, Bruce Carillon

Message #7523
The way I finally got A&L to do "linked chains", with the help of the Computer Support Corp (Arts & Letters) tech support folks, was this: 1. draw an ellipse 2. Where the other "link" would "cut thru" the first, put two new handles. Then stretch this little cut segment…

#Scan Settings
Message #7448
I'm afraid I don't know much about the Apple Scanner, but I can tell how I use other ones to produce templates for Illustrator. Illustrator supports somewhere around a 8"x10" area for templates. You can use scans in either PICT or MPNT format as templates, both have thier place. The…
When I say "painstakingly calibrated", I mea that you need to have the Linotronic service reps to a precise densitometer testing on your machine when you get it. I don't know all the details, but the exposure settings on a Lino can change/degrade over time, due to shipping, etc. Also,…
I Have been using The old Jasmin 80 Drive with Ill88 since Ill88 was beta with no problems that I can attribute to the drive. I have had problems with the Adobe Illustrator 88 Preference file located in the system folder. I was working with Ill88 and found that eveything…
Thanks. I just had to reinitialize my Jasmine DD 70. The main symptom was PostScript code from an Illustrator 88 document appearing in a Navigator session file; I wasn't running MultiFinder. Disk First Aid confirmed that I had a problem (it couldn't verify my drive). Having seen messages about a…
Scott: We have an L-300 on order and plan to start doing what we hope will be "pleasing color" on it. What are you specifically talking about when you say "painstakingly calibrated"? Also have you used, or do you suggest using, elliptical dots, or any other dot pattern besides the…

Ill88 & Jasmine-Fatal!!
Message #6896
Lori: Thanks for the reply re. Jasmine. My vitals are: David Buell c/o Advanced Laser Graphics, 1850 K St, NW, Metro Level, Washington, DC 20006 (202) 835-0100.
Both Quark XPress 2.0 and ImageStudio 1.5 offer the option of using an eliptical dot screen; ImageStudio offers several options, and will even let you modify the PostScript code used to generate the haftone cells and save it as a custom screen (rings, squares, bowties & more are included). -Scott…
How to avoid Moire patterns in process color separations? Put simply, one doesn't. I assume you are using Adobe Separator to do the color separations…if this is the case, then AS is calculating all of the rotations, etc automatically. Under normal conditions, the actual "scrrens" of halftone dots are rotated…

Ill88 & Jasmine-Fatal!!
Message #6865
Kathleen- I am not having any problems running Ill88 off of my Jasmine 45 external hard drive. I don't use Multifinder and have only 1 meg memory (soon to expand). Joseph Villanova 73300,3142
I'm really sorry I didn't pay better attention to the thread. Can you possibly summarize for me? What sort of problem should I be watching out for? (I haven't had one that I know of, and I've been using the DirectDrive 70 since MacWorld in August.) Thanks. Kathleen
I haven't given it to Adobe to puzzle over. It seemed clear, sort of — that is, at actual size it prints OK on the LaserWriter. At that same size there are gaps in the hairlines on an L300. In the end I printed it larger on the LW for…
HPGL Converter
Message #6857
I am the person who uploaded the HPGL_to_Illustrator file conversion utility It doesn't work right if the HPGL file does not include an SC command indicating the maximum x and y coordinates. I am at work on a new version that is not so stupid as this.

Message #6847
Arggh – how aggravating when LaserWriter output doesn't match the Linotronic's – especially at $10 a shot! Does anybody at Adobe have an answer for you? One strange thing I've noticed with the Linotronic are the differences in apparent screen densities at the 1250 or 2540 DPI resolutions. I wonder…

Ill-88>Word
Message #6844

YES! Scan your artwork as best you can, then save it as an Encapsulated PostScript File (EPS or EPSF are the usual abbreviations). Once in this format, a scan can be "Placed" into an Illustrator file using the "Place…" command in the File menu. The image will appear (in artwork…

Illustrator for PC
Message #6309
There is a version of Illustrator recently introduced for the PC. In features, it falls between the original Mac Illustrator and Illustrator 88. I'm not sure if it's shipping yet, but you might check with some dealers to find out what dates they've been promised.
Logo as a font
Message #6246
Regarding your question about converting a graphic (logo) created with Adobe Illustrator into a downloadable character, it is possible to make an image into a PostScript font character. The easy way is to use a program like Fontographer by Altsys. There is also a program in the "Blue Book" (PostScript…
DrawOver and MacDraw II
Message #6204
Any idea if DrawOver will be updated to handle PICT drawings from MacDraw II? Tried to do this, got some strange results, then read the manual to disocover that support extends only to 1.9.5. Is there an upgrade in the offing?
Scott, I have not had this problem in other applications. I also mentioned it to Adobe back when I was beta testing 88 for them. The screen fonts are installed in my system file, I'm not using Suitcase or F/DA Juggler. I did indeed use the installer. About the moon…

Message #6147
Does this bug occur in other applications? Are your screen fonts installed in your System file, or are you using Suitcase or F/DAJuggler? When you reinstalled your system, did you use the Installer or did you simply replace the file? Any of these may affect what's happening. (then again, sometimes…
Printing large graphics
Message #5908
I spoke with the graphics dept. here at Adobe regarding your question about large graphic images. #PC Illustrator
Message #5776
For displaying PostScript code, I do know that Laserview is releasing their product for the PC later this year. Their MAC version is an effective, interactive PS previewer and programming aid tool.
Jeff, Illustrator 88 usually displays the PostScript error in the printing dialog BEFORE giving the final message "A PostScript error has been generated…." Watch carefully. The most likely PostScript errors are: (1) VM error–you have run out of memory. Often occurs if you are using more than one PostScript header…
