#29490 Alias Message #29589
From: microsmiths AmigaTech · System Software January 9, 1989 1:12 AM
I knew there was something else you had to do to get the C= NewShell working, glad you found it. Betcha if you keep that one on your fingertips, somebody else will have the same problem real soon and you can fix 'em up-
#Alias Message #29490
From: Jamie Severe AmigaTech · System Software January 8, 1989 6:30 PM
After reading your last message to me I started back at trying to figure out how I could get command history of the shell but not be able to get the alias feature to work (as per your notations). First thing I did was type the resident command and it…

#29398 #PopCli/Shell Message #29466
From: Paul Whittemore AmigaTech · System Software January 8, 1989 3:23 PM
Have you tried MachII? I gave up PopCLI and the other 'TSRs' (yuck – a 'blue' word) as soon as I saw MachII. It does everything.
#29434 Gomf3.0 Message #29442
From: Don Curtis/SYSOP AmigaTech · System Software January 8, 1989 12:28 PM
John, NO space between the > and the 'nil:' so it should look like: run >nil: gomf3.0 Now, as to the r/w error…is that disk ok? Try copying another file onto it and see if you get the same error. leave the current version of gomf there. In fact, just…
#Gomf3.0 Message #29434
From: John Little AmigaTech · System Software January 8, 1989 11:28 AM
Allstartup-sequence as manual shows (stack 1000 , run > nil: gomf3.0 ,stack 8000) then I attempt to copy Gomf3.0 onto disk…the copy goes about 3 secs. then I get a READ/WRITE error prompt that connot be stopped without re-boot… but upon re-booting the disk reads fine, no error messages, and…
VirusX3.10 Message #29416
From: Betty Clay/SYSOP AmigaTech · System Software January 8, 1989 3:17 AM
Jim, I checked your upload of VirusX3.10, added a file of information from Stan Kalisher's upload, and added another program, SYSCHK.ARC that may be helpful in controlling this virus. Then I arced that and put it in LIB 14. Our thanks to you, to SteQibbetts, and also to Stan, to…
#29319 PopCli/Shell Message #29412
From: Mike Koch AmigaTech · System Software January 8, 1989 1:19 AM
Ethan, It's very easy to get PopCLI to invoke a Shell, rather than a CLI. Assuming that you are starting PopCLI from your startup-sequence, edit that particular line to read something like this: C:PopCLI 600 Newshell NEWCON:0/10/640/190/PopShell Specifying where PopCLI is located (in this case its C:, for me it's…
#29387 #PopCli/Shell Message #29398
From: Ethan Solomita AmigaTech · System Software January 8, 1989 12:43 AM
Betty, I did something unheard of, I read the manual. It says that the syntax for PopCli is as follows. PopCli command refers to what command is executed when the hot key is pressed. Scan code is optional. So I just typed PopCli 300 NewShell >NIL: See what a little…
#29319 #PopCli/Shell Message #29387
From: Betty Clay/SYSOP AmigaTech · System Software January 7, 1989 11:49 PM
You can set PopCLI to use the shell instead of the CLI. I did this from DMouse, but DMouse uses POPCLI to do that job. With DMouse, I only had to add the command -CNewShell. Sorry – I don't know exactly how it is done with PopCli. Perhaps someone here…

#29355 WB/CLI Interface Message #29371
From: Don Curtis/SYSOP AmigaTech · System Software January 7, 1989 11:16 PM
Ron, That doesn't surprise me at all…the A500 is a much lower cost machine than the lowest Mac and the A500 sold more than the A2000 by a wide margin. Don
#29319 PopCli/Shell Message #29357
From: RON TROY AmigaTech · System Software January 7, 1989 10:06 PM
I found that qmouse using left amgia escape can have its command line set to use the shell, if that helps you any. Ron
#29271 #WB/CLI Interface Message #29355
From: RON TROY AmigaTech · System Software January 7, 1989 8:55 PM
Now, if I remember that earlier message, that there were about 200 thousand some Mac's sold, sounds like Amiga did extremely well by any standards. Ron
#29319 PopCli/Shell Message #29351
From: KevinC AmigaTech · System Software January 7, 1989 8:13 PM
Ah ! I wondered much the same thing myself. A kludgey but easy answer is to have the CLI-Startup file in you SYS:s directory perform the e desired ASSIGNments and then RUN NewShell. Voila ! The ,major drawback is that this does take longer than the usual POPCli, but it…
#PopCli/Shell Message #29319
From: Ethan Solomita AmigaTech · System Software January 7, 1989 2:32 PM
Does anyone know if there is or will be a version of PopCli which will open a shell instead of cli under WB1.3. PopCli is a great utility, but that would definitely improve it. — Ethan
#29234 #Auto-Rename a file Message #29285
From: Khalid Aldoseri AmigaTech · System Software January 7, 1989 3:24 AM
Betty, I use it a lot, too. I have uploaded a much better version to DL13 called HELP.ARC around 3 days ago. It's hasn't been merged yet. Maybe you'd like to have a look at it. Khalid.
#28914 #PKPAK ? Message #29284
From: Dan Mather AmigaTech · System Software January 7, 1989 2:52 AM
Larry, I'd do everything from the AMIGA side if I could afford the peripherals etc. I will get ARC from the library – too bad about PKPAK though I liked the self extracting achive feature. Aloha, Dan

#29042 #Eliminate infos Message #29225
From: Betty Clay/SYSOP AmigaTech · System Software January 6, 1989 10:50 PM
Marlene, The answer lies in using EXECUTE with 'delete'. TransAMi #4 has an article on doing CLI work from AmigaBASIC, and this information is explained in that article – but I do not yet have a copy of that magazine. If you can get hold of a copy, it should…
#29158 Slow music problem Message #29199
From: Richard Rae/SYSOP AmigaTech · System Software January 6, 1989 7:56 PM
That's bizarre; I've not heard of the like either. Do any other music/score programs (like Sonix proper, DMCS, etc.) work properly? Does ANY non-audio/music program show a similar symptom? Rick

#29128 wBG's Message #29166
From: microsmiths AmigaTech · System Software January 6, 1989 5:25 PM
Jamie – you don't need to use "defdisk" if you've got the ARP Assign command as you can give multiple ASSIGN pairs to the ARP Assign and have it do everything with one execution of ASSIGN in your startup-sequence. Just use something like: Assign C: DH0:C L DH0:L LIBS: DH0:LIBS…
Slow music problem Message #29158
From: Paul Dowgewicz AmigaTech · System Software January 6, 1989 2:41 PM
I hope someone will be able to help me with at problem I've got with my Amiga 2000. It works OK with most things, however with a Sonix player program, it plays the notes at about 1 note every 30 seconds. If I open another window, it will play a…
#28468 Alias….. Message #29155
From: Jamie Severe AmigaTech · System Software January 6, 1989 12:45 PM
Cheath, Other than having "ALIAS" problems, all of my arp commands work fine as do my 1.3 commands. I have made Shell-Seg resident with the 1.3 version of resident, I have mounted newcon and I currently have all other capabilities of the shell. Unfortunetly I *KNOW* that the problem with…
#29152 Disable mem. program Message #29153
From: Khalid Aldoseri AmigaTech · System Software January 6, 1989 12:14 PM
Rob, I thought I had, but after checking it looks like I didn't! Anyway, I'll dig it out and upload it. I just found a better version that does the same thing in a book called 'Amiga System Programmer's Guide.' This version is more reliable. Thanks for reminding me. Khalid.
From: Rob Hilgen AmigaTech · System Software January 6, 1989 12:08 PM
Khalid- I was just wondering, did you ever upload your program for disabling extra memory? Rob

Yes, Khalid's utility is an ideal solution. Yes XICON, IXECUTE, and a couple others all do the same thing. Just make sure it is in your C; directory. Then create a batch file with your editor, save it with an icon and use the INFO option from workbench to view…
#29105 Auto-Rename a file Message #29121
From: Khalid Aldoseri AmigaTech · System Software January 6, 1989 7:27 AM
Phil, I polished up the program a bit and just uploaded it to DL14 as STAMP.ARC. I guess it'll take a day or so before it gets merged. I also added a 'copy' option to it which will copy the file and then stamp the copy. Khalid.

#28793 #Auto-Rename a file Message #29107
From: Phil Koenig AmigaTech · System Software January 6, 1989 1:35 AM
Sounds interesting, but I wouldn't want to delete the old file….as a matter of fact, that is one of the problems. I logon again, the term opens up the SAME capture file again, and OVERWRITES the old one. I wanted to rename it to a name with the current date/time…

Don, By the way, the Feb '89 AW says, in the Help Key column; "The 1.3 Amiga operating system upgrade contains a new version of the Janus library and a new set of PC Tools to work with it.". The PC Tools are on the Extras disk, but I haven't…
#28965 Assembler vs Forth Message #29079
From: Alex Arthur AmigaTech · System Software January 6, 1989 12:00 AM
Jon, Thanks so much for your assistance. I'll check over what I'm doing again and try out the Forth forum. I had a Professor in college that was very active with some Forth groups. It was his idea for my project of the forth interpreter back then (~6years ago). I…
#29060 PKPAK ? Message #29077
From: Steve Ahlstrom AmigaTech · System Software January 5, 1989 11:19 PM
I disagree. If you use a shareware product, you should pay for it. Using it and refusing to pay for it for whatever reason is less than honest and is the reason why (with very few exceptions) the shareware concept is not working.
#28985 #PKPAK ? Message #29060
From: Richard Rae/SYSOP AmigaTech · System Software January 5, 1989 10:30 PM
Then we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I absolutely agree that considering a price too high does not give someone a right to steal. I'm dead-set against piracy, and have never owned a stolen piece of commercial software in my computing lifetime. Shareware, to my mind, is…
