Kevin, Correct you are, mapping is preserved. I'm not sure about the SXP stuff. Good question, I'll have to check that out… Mark I'm back…SXP assignments don't go along. I don't know where that info is stored. Hmmm.

Ideal PC for 3DS Rel.3
Message #97549
Not only did I see 100% Micron computers at the NAB booth, but Micron uses the fact that Autodesk uses their machines in all their shows a part of their (Micron's) advertising. Since the NAB booth showed strictly 3D Studio and Animator Pro, (not CAD software), I'm surprised you're not…
Thanks, John, I'll make these changes immediately! Gary
INSIDE 3DS
Message #97547
Greg, Just picked up Inside 3DSTUDIO release 3 book. Great job!! I have been looking for a book about 3DSTUDIO that shows practical tips and tricks and this is it. I have been working with 3DSTUDIO (the tutorials only tell you so much) and to try to figure it out…
Thanks Robert, I checked here but it hasn't been posted yet. It'll probably appear somtime on Monday. I'm really looking forward to seeing it! Take care, Danny…
Vacation time… sounds great. I've been thinking about it but something always comes up. I was hoping the early part of May. >> I have about half my PAR drive full…
>> but I do see faster advances in the ide line.
>> What I would wish for is to just let the faster IDE drives allow for lower compression ratios.
The way 3DS renders fields is two fields on one .tga file. If you look at your individual field rendered frames you'll notice interlaced fields. John Tissavary (LUNA cie)

#Field/Frame Info
Message #97539
I'm rendering some animations to disks for transfer to videotape (Beta SP). I'm rendering in fields for better quality, yet I only see 1 TGA file yet the computer is rendering the same frame twice. Are both fields composited to the same frame? Anyone know how this works in 3DS3?…
Ron, I believe the new VistaPro is especially setup to do a DXF dirctley out to 3ds3.They have been working on this with Adesk I believe. Pat
#Dialogue Box Problem
Message #97536
When I pick a pull down menu, the dialogue box opens and computer locks up. Appears to be a config, problem! Does anyone have any ideas! I Have just loaded 3DS3 for the first time.
Gary, The colder the better buddy. I'm curious about the quality of the docs too. It seems that IPAS docs are designed to introduce you to the rudimentary ideas and the rest is up to you. Talk about expriments. Boy! I've put away DAYS just with spurt! Maybe I should…
FLI reader in ASM/C/C++
Message #97534
Nik, I am a beginner on multimedia. I like to know how to add sound and interactivity to .flc files made with Animator Pro or Playmation. Any good tool that you would recommend, or I better learn aaplay.dll( MCI command compatible? ) and add code to control everything myself. Any…
help
Message #97533
Hi,I hope you can help me. I recently got a copy of autodesk animator version 1.02 free with a comp. mag. and I think it is a brilliant program, however I am having trouble sussing out all the different functions of it. Is there anywhere I can get some help…
I just saw an ad for the new 64bit #9. It's got 1 or 2megs so it won't do truecolor at 1024. Also, I doubt it's supported by the in-line drivers. You should at least borrow somebody's MGA to check out. Mine is rock solid. I haven't found a better…
This is most likely not a bug. If you've got smartdrive or any other cache installed and running, then disable write-back cacheing, or remove it altogether. Also, I suspect your controller may have something to do with this. Are you sure you have no memory conflicts? If you are POSITIVE…
I have the same problem with mapping icons, sometimes, but not often. I think this has to do with different brands of video cards, but I'm not sure. I'm not sure if anything can be done besides using a different VGA card or changing drivers. John Tissavary (LUNA cie)
Animation
Message #97529
Can someone help me in the animation area? I use Corel 3.0 and it has I think some capability for animation playing. If someone can guide me where to go to start obtaining info and the basics to play animation in Corel 3.0. Are the type of format (Corel 3.0)…
Thanks David! I haven't had time to isolate that one yet because of these 15 new IPAS routines we're cranking away on. After looking at Chris' message, it seemed as if it had to be in that 3D Display code somewhere, and I _really_ appreciate your saving me the time…
I have a copy of 3ds r3 i'd let go for $2400 I have all books and the dongle (of course).
Unfotunatly I cannot recreated on demand. It just happens sometimes. Ill try re-installing the program. Hope that woks. Thankfor your help Gregg Daly Graphix zone
Gary, If you haven't isolated the step that turns off the AXP's I think I have it for you. They get turned off when you use the Display/3D Display/Choose command in the Shaper. Doesn't matter how many objects you have and you can just use all boxes if you want.…
#vanishing control boxes
Message #97524
John, While I'm moving objects around I've had problems w/ control boxes around the object either not being visible or not representing the extents of the object. The same is true w/ the mapping Icon. in some viewports the icon is really visible and in others I can't even find…
#shaper get shape
Message #97523
Is there a way to make a template from the 3d editor to use in the shaper to help create shapes to loft back into an object for the 3d editor? I'm modeling a shopping center that has a complicated window wall system that I want to model in 3ds.…
#.prj Majician
Message #97522
Christophe, I've done something really amazing! I've managed to work up a large .prj file (shopping center) and "poof" made it vanish! I know how I made the project and saved it carefully with every group of additions but I'm not too sure about my "write error" majic! I'm SOOOO…MAD!…
Brian, Two problems….first is that this is the Autodesk Software forum, not the Autodesk AutoCAD forum (GO ACAD to get to the right forum). Secondly the AutoCAD forum has just gone through a reorganization and the new dealer's section is 16….not 15 and the file DGRDWG.ZIP is in there.

Will, Post the information you wish as a message to the SYSOP or at the File Disposition ! prompt type CHA(nge) to get to the editor. (don't do this unless you're prepared to use the FILGE editor that CIS supplies, or before you have read the docs for the FILGE…

Paul, > It's possible that during the Contraining the Hinge or H-Arm or H-Shaft and Hand you've made a mistake. I don't have my manuals here. I'd recommend reviewing your earlier steps. jonas[adesk]
Paul, > N'th frame… see Render Animation Dialog Box. ie. [all][single[segment][every'nth frame] Chapter 8.. the page eludes me.. Video Post script files.. see Image File Lists(*.ifl). also see Video Post Queue Entry Dialog Box. ie. Bitmap..*.ifl. jonas[adesk]
Ron, Both VistaPro and GIFDXF come on the CD ROM that ships with the book "Inside 3D Studio" by some of the folks here on the forum, published by New Riders. These will do what you want. John

As you said, you can't use booleans with one-sided objects. You can try it with a two-sided grid, and then after the union, delete the other side. Or you could try selecting intersection or subtraction, and see if that gives you the intersection you want. – G
I'm very familiar with the status of the Herc 512×486 mode. The Vibrant folks have been _trying_ to implement it, but it requires some bizarre initialization code that has taken awhile to write. It's scheduled for the next incarnation of the Vibrant drivers, which should be up here within the…

I have tried to complete tutorial 15 in the tutorial guide and I am having trouble continuing after using the ALL TRACKS method on page 15-12. It seems that after following the instructions to copy the all tracks key at frame 0 to frame 60 with the sub-tree button active,…
After my experiences with Matrox, I won't touch their boards. I saw the #9 about a year ago and was very impressed, but I haven't heard anything of it since. Is it really shipping? Does anyone have a "hands-on" tale to tell? – J
Great to hear it went so well, Don, and don't forget reason #4: You obviously have the ability to grasp a project, plan it, and execute in a timely fashion, delivering *what* the customer wants for the amount of money he agreed to spend. This part of the business demands…
Feeding Frenzy
Message #97506
Hiya Garry, Well I take it back, I WAS homesick for Australia until I went computer shopping yesterday… I got a 486/25 notebook, 4MB RAM, 120MB hard disk etc. for US$1600. In a feeding frenzy I then bought a multimedia kit (CD-ROM, Sound Blaster Pro, scads of software) for the…
#Union not unioning
Message #97505
I'm trying to Union two objects without success. I made the first object from a 12x12x1 grid. After some manipulation of the grid I hacked off the faces that made up the depth of 1, so it was just a 12×12 object with no depth. I bent it so it…
Well, I did have a problem, yesterday and had to drop it back to 240 ??? to get the animation to play without that mysterious flash frame. I have about half my PAR drive full now so I would like to optomize and dump some test renderings now that most…
It turned out great. I have three things to thank for making this project possible. 1. 3DSr3 and network rendering which allowed me to meet deadlines. 2. DPS-PAR which allowed for faster test renderings and motion tests as well as the high quality of output for the big screen. 3.…
Yes, I did the output field rendered to my hard drive and then transfered to the PAR at BLF 260, QF 23. The animation was recorded to the UVW-1800 via CAV signal from the PAR. It was edited to a master on a second UVW-1800 using a Toaster 4000 switcher…
What I would wish for is to just let the faster IDE drives allow for lower compression ratios. Add a second hard drive so that that can be used for audio and then develop a windows based NLE software package for the PAR. What do you think? I see this…
Well, I like SCSI II too and the "industrial" quality one generally gets but I do see faster advances in the ide line. I wonder if the IDE is the drive force in the technology developments and the SCSI is just catching the benefits of the developing technology at this…
