Hello. Our company will be developing inhouse CD-ROM disks for our installed customer base. We have a need to ship out about 100 CD's a month. We will be using either Panasonic or Pinnacle Recordable CD Rom, but we need to find out who does CD duplication from the master…

I hope this is the correct forum for this question. Does anyone know of any way to upgrade a NEC CDR-36 to a CDR-38 ??? Or should I just dump the drive and get a newer one ??? Thanks, Chuck Shimada

Multidisc sets Message #944
Matt, I've been referred to you by Chad Buttars of the FOLIO forum with this question. I'm not sure it's a network question, or a FOLIO thing, or what but here it is: Is it possible to create a multidisc FOLIO Views 3.0 infobase, mount some or all of the…

I realize most of the discussion here concerns OS/2, but I am looking for the appropriate device drivers for a Toshiba 3401 and a PS/2 model 95 and a model 57 running under DOS. When I ask IBM for the CD-ROM option disk, they are unclear as to what I…

I understand the config.sys part of it, but i have gotten the impression talking to various techs that there could also be a device-specific mscdex. maybe they were just trying to simplyfy the config.sys driver part. Is pioneer here in some capacity?

If you use the /o option, OPTICAL.SYS will not load. You then have to select it and use the FORMAT program to format it. It will report being a floppy drive since that is the way all removable media is seen right now. Format it as a floppy… if you…
Steve, thanks for dropping by! That's good news, all right. I look forward to the new level of support you guys can provide.
In order to install the Trantor SCSI card with OS/2 2.1, you need to follow the instructions on the OS/2 Installation guide, page XVIII. Copy the .ADD to Disk1 and edit the CONFIG.SYS there to include that .ADD driver in it. OS/2 should install without a problem. In several of…
#931 PAS & Bernoulli Message #936
Actually, we did write the NT driver for the PAS… then we gave the source code to Microsoft to include in NT. Microsoft has stated that it will ship the SCSI drivers for the PAS in the release version. You just need to wait awhile, since NT still isn't released…
It doesn't make sense to run a sound card on a server! Since sound cards are designed for personal use, there would be no sound locally if it was on a server. There are no Novell drivers for the Soundblaster in any case.
NEC can supply you with the drivers for their SCSI cards for the PC… just check their BBS. For Mac driver updates, you need to contact NEC Tech Support at 1-800-NEC-INFO… but only if you already have a Mac driver of theirs. If you just purchased the NEC drive, you…
Hallo Jack, thanks for your quick answer about point 4 of my problem report. I assume Trantor is working on point 1 to 3. Now to point 4: > Option /o for the add driver: no differece, MO still a floppy Yes, this is the way IBM sees removable media.…
We're revisiting the OPTICAL.SYS driver to see if we cam get it released with the shrink wrap. No promises yet, but we are working on it. I'll post any updated information here. We're also looking into making MOs more than just large floppies…. and to allow HPFS and caching. Stay…

A sideline question, I am using your SCSI works ASPI driver with my PAS\16 and CorelSCSI. I have my CD-ROM , Bernoulli, Maxtor Worm, and now a Maxtor 500Meg Scsi hard disk. I am wondering if you have a update to this driver, it appears to give random erattic read…

Jay, Thanks for the response. Because I'm not sure exactly what the final product would be like, I have no way of knowing how many hours of programming, animating, etc. time would be necessary. I definitely agree that the CD-ROM version would have to have significant added value over the…
#891 VHS to CD-I Message #911
Hugh, Yes, it is possible. First you have to put the images through an analog-to-digital converter, then you need to import it into a CD-I system. If you need to have the file compressed (I'm pretty sure that's necessary for video) that has to be done before it can be…
#899 SCSI Pin Outs Message #909
The easiest thing is to just use a standard MAC compatible 25 to 50 pin SCSI cable. On your SCSI drive, you can then just use a 50 pin SCSI connector to a standard 50 pin header connector. That's much easier than trying to make up a special cable.
> Option /o for the add driver: no differece, MO still a floppy Yes, this is the way IBM sees removable media. That's not a bug, it's a feature! If you use the IBM OPTICAL.SYS driver, you need to format the MO cartridge as though it is a floppy… and…

#804 #Magazines to ROMs Message #901
Ed, Interesting questions, and some that I'm researching myself at this time. The basic question to ask is if publishing a "magazine" digitally will add value to the magazine. The successful titles will not be a replication of the magazine in CD-ROM form, but something new. Personnel will depend on…

Herman, MS does have a 1993 version, that requires Win 3.1 (don't think the new version is available for DOS) – what's new is some multimedia, updated Atlas (probably now our of date), and 1993 Almanac. You can either call MS (they do have an 800 customer service #) or…

Jack, I've run across another SCSI issue I thought I should ask you about. I use Hyperdisk 4.60 as my disk cache. I noticed a QEMM 7.01 tech note warning about possible problems running bus-mastering devices in virtual 8086 mode. Their preferred solution is to use a driver which complies…
