Hi There!
Message #816
I agree on the speed issue. The problem with the OS/2 app vs Winapp issue is that I think we'll have to wait a while beefore we start seeing significant numbers of OS/2 that most of us use. One of the things that would concern me is that vendors that…

Message #815
Hugo – try upping the IDLE_????? settings for your Corel icon. That seemed to help the speed in OS/2.
#Need CDROM For OS/2 2.0
Message #814
Robert, Perhaps you missed the beginning of this thread … I have both the Adaptec drivers which came with the GA release, the updated driver from the Adaptec BBS, as well as the beta ASPI manager which was on the Adaptec BBS. The problem (apparently) is that CDROM.SYS which came…
Mark, If you're looking at it on your screen, in W4W, all you're seeing is a low resolution bitmap of the EPS file. And if you print it from Word to a non PS printer, that low resolution image (provided strictly for positioning) is what will print. Rich
I cannot think of any more difficult baptism into corel and vector image work than tracing a bitmap. The trace options are complex, and it takes a lot of fiddling to figure out what they do, how they affect each other, and how those relationships change depending on the bitmap…
Oliver, the DPI setting in the driver doesn't change the DPI setting on the imagesetter. This number (in the driver) is reported to programs that request it for character spacing, postscript fills, etc. The resolution of the imagesetter is set from the RIP or the imagesetter itself and is not…
I also got the "upgrade" from SPC (Harvard Draw), and I have to agree that the claims they make in their ads are far from truth. Thay even will not say that Harvard Draw will not even let you do color separation (neither does Publish Magazine who has such a…
#Win 3.1 HiRes Printing

Paul, Thanks, since i installed 3.1 i've lost all confidence–and spent a few late nights chasing zeros & ones. i think Ken is right a few service bureaus are a little confussed also.
Win 3.1 HiRes Printing
Message #807
Ken, i'll look this in/cm stuff over. i think you're right, the service bureau said they needed to upgrade thier drivers for compatability on thier NuGen, and at another time they said they didn't have 3.1 installed. The two differant stories lead me to believe they're unsure. Now the question…

I've been to Thom's seminar in the past. This one was by another employee, Debra Carlen. She was very good, too. I handed out a flyer and cards and answered some questions when Deb introduced me to the crowd. JohnC

Upgrade to 3.0
Message #803
Cynthia……. Today I purchased Corel Draw 2.0. How can I apply for the upgrade-by-grace to 3.0? What do you need from me to be mailed, faxed, personally delivered, Etc., to Corel Systems. Do I need something from Corel? Can it be faxed?? I await your reply. Leonard J… NB -…
Paul: No question that if we were talking about output to a non-continuous tone PS device (ie, laser printer, imagesetter) your advice is on the money. As life would have it, however, he was talking about making slides (smack me if I'm wrong there) and that means continuous tone, and…
Kodak Photo CD
Message #801
Dave, When a CD-ROM is updated in the fashion you described it is referred to as a multiple session CD. There are no CD-ROM players on the market yet that support the multiple session format. Kodak's own CD player to support this standard has not even been released yet. PhotoCD…
Mark, I may have a possible answer for your problem with the EPS file. I have W4W 2.0A and today I imported an EPS file (from CD 2.01L) into W4W. When it printed to my PS printer it looked like the bitmap header had printed and not the actual EPS…

Message #799
>Perhaps the situation is different under 3.0. If TrueType (or some >other format is used instead of .WFN, keeping the fonts all in the >same directory may not be needed. Any thoughts on that, Donna/Corel? Well, since in CD 3.0 we're now using TrueType fonts, you can tell Windows where…
Corel V1.21 with Win 3.1
Message #798
Wandal, Sorry Wandal, I don't have a workaround for you. The only thing I can think of is that, if you have sufficient HD space, you reinstall Windows 3.0 in another directory and use it with CD 1.21. Donna

Message #797
Cindy– Hi, I'm new here, and just have a couple of simple questions. I just ordered 2.01L direct from Corel, from version 2.00a. 1. Corel 3.0 is out, what are the improvements? new features? 2. How can I get 3.0? Can I get it direct from Corel as well as…

John, >It would be great if the leave original were in the other Transform >menus as well. But Leave Original *is* available in all the choices under the Transform menu. Not sure what you mean… Donna
Ken— They're not blowing smoke at you. There are times when RTFM is in order. In particular with any tracing program, given that there is not one (and I've used 'em all, and have reviewed Streamline 3.0) which you can just turn loose on a bitmap and have it get…
#UAE with Blend on 3.1
Message #794
This is probably a FAQ, but I've only just discovered this forum! I've been running 2.00B under 3.1 for a while. Everything seems fine except BELND – I keep getting the WALDO UAEs whenever I use it (even on the simplest objects). I spoke to your tech support, who kindly…
#CD!3.00 release in UK?
Message #793
Has CorelDraw! 3.0 been released in the UK yet? If so there seems to have been a conspiracy of silence over it! If not, is any information available?
There are six Section Leaders for five Sections (Paul and I share duties in the CD 3.X and CD 2.x sections) and one Sysop and a few unofficial people around. Donna

Message #788
It seems I have goofed. My previous message sent To Gary Nolan #670 stated that PSComplexityThreshold has no effect on exporting to .EPS. This is incorrect. If you encounter complexity problems adjusting this value *DOES* effect .EPS output. Sorry for the mis-information. We strive to ensure that this never happens…
Hee hee hee! It warms my heart to see the new doses of diplomacy the ol' phrase "RTFM" can be given. I'm writing them down for my own use, hope you don't mind. Say, how many of you [Corel] people are here, anyway? I'm impressed by the amount of company…
#CD FONTS
Message #784
I have a TrueType question! First, I can't tell you how overjoyed I was to see all those great fonts in TT format! A thousand thanks! I'm giddy at the prospect of finally replacing all my ATM fonts and ditching ATM. This brings us to my question. I read somewhere…

Message #783
Just jumping in with my 2 cents… I have an ATI Ultra on a Gateway 486/33. I have only played with CD3.0 for a few minutes, but one thing I found (repeatable) was that a Full Screen Preview hangs the system…not only CD but ProgMan.Exe behind it. This was done…
#Win 3.1 HiRes Printing
Message #782
I beleive part of the reason the bureaus are asking for the older driver is because Windows 3.1 does not include the old Lino 300 and 500 drivers but instead the newer 330, 530, and 630 drivers. I've noticed that on the Lino 300 the service bureaus ask for 2540dpi…

Message #780
David, You are right. In DRAW ver 3.0 The Windows TT engine and the ATM engine provide fonts for our use. Where they reside is up to these two apps. As for WFN's this is where FontsDir comes into play. They can be wherever you please, but *all* WFN's must…

#Corel Design Contest
Message #777
Admittedly, Corel's ad campaign is a bit . . . uhm . . . garish(?). But as far as I'm concerned, it's fine compared to Harvard/windows. "look, you can draw really ugly nonsense faster with harvy than corel!" (actually, I did a close duplicate of it, just to see what…
Mark, I need more info. When you printed the file from Corel directly to your postscript printer all was well. Yes? You then exported the file as .EPS and used the approriate function in word to import the file. When it printed from Word it looked terrible. Assuming the file…
#What a Waste of $400
Message #774
Dave, Let me begin by saying that you have not wasted your money. Coverting a bitmap to vector, as you have discovered, is not always as easy as it would seem. There are a number of determining factors which influence the effectiveness of Trace, not the least of which is…
Corel3 and Typesetters?
Message #773
Michael, > 1. What happens to Corel fonts that have an equivalent (or > near-equivalent) Postscript font? How will it output? Since you are now using DRAW 3.0 the fonts you use are structured in the following way. TTF's are used first, AT1's second and then finally WFN's. The reason…

#degradation of text
Message #769
David, It sounds as though you may have a rather thick outline on the text you are using. If you have inadvertently changed your default settings to include an outline on your text, this may account for several things. The "chunky" preview and output could certainly result from such an…

#What a Waste of $400
Message #764
I've had the same experience, and I know how frustrating it can be. What you probably are not doing is using the "trace options" to set the way your bitmap is being handled. You can adjust whether your logo is "mostly curves," "mostly lines," etc., as well as whether it…

This is a strange forum. I'm assuming that the transition from Windows 3rd party vendors to your very own Forum is taking some time to smooth out. Is Mr. Andrew Knox still with Corel? In no way I mean to imply that the current SysOp(s) are different from the one(s)…
