Helmut, I am using an internal Seagate Barracuda ST32550N which is (according to the vendor) an AV or Intelligent Thermal Recalibrating drive. It is attached to an Adaptec 1542CF SCSI controller. I am using Adaptec EZ-SCSI v. 3.11. I have an external Pinnacle RCD-1000 attached to the SCSI bus.
I believe the Pinnacle uses a device driver called ADMI which is activated when the RCD (Easy CD Pro) is entered. The only device driver used for the SCSI bus is aspi4dos for the AV hard disk. What I meant was the config and autoexec are REALLY slim!

Kathy and Paul, thanks for your informations! We decided to write CDs from the computer that contains two SCSI adapters. What Paul said finally worked out: I changed the entry in the gear.ini file and GearXPress recognised the CD unit. Thanks again Thomas

I will look into the Smartdrive question for a paper I'm writing for OSTA. It's about optimizing a host machine for CD-Recording, and the chair of the Physical Compatibility subcommittee strongly recommends turning Smartdrive OFF, as well as any other programs and TSRs that may be running in the background.
