Message #134228
Dennis, I have no problem using prt: on the Amiga side. I don't have a Mountain HC, but I've got a HD on the Bridge side, along with a multi function EMS card. Have you by any chance started up LPT1 which would cause the port to be busy. Don
IMPORT FILES
Message #134227
Greg, it is a well-established practice that Amiga picture files are highly standardized, so that they can be traded very easily among different programs. The name of the "standard" for these bitmap picture files is called ILBM (InterLeaved Bit Map), or IFF (Interchange File Format, which really includes more than…

Ron, I recently downloaded a full-fledged VT220 emulator from another source. If you are interested, I'll put it up here. It is called "Meshugena", and it's quite complete as a VT220, BUT it doesn't have printer capability which I believe is what you really want. It includes a custom font…

Perhaps you need to change some switch to record the video IN. That is, perhaps just plugging it in won't do the trick.

Well, I am not really in the market for a PCB Cad system, but I believe the point of the thread was requiring the user to place arp.library on the disk. If you can actually spawn background processes with ARexx and then kill the parent (for which I am taking…

Only warning about Dos2Dos is that it doesn't handle Twister format disks from the ST, so you're left to modem those across. – John

I remain unimpressed by the ARP stuff, too, so whatever Ben says, I agree. 🙂 I'm thinking of writing a letter to AmigaWhirled, complaining that their recent article on ARP was long on hot air, and short on real meaning. I'm still not convinced of the utility of ARexx, so…

The old MSS used to be online every day, they operated a telecom forum here on CIS. They've since undergone some serious re-organization. I don't know if it's right to call them the same company as the one that put out ScrOnAlyze!!! or whatever… 🙂 – John

Turn heads? Did DigiView turn heads at COMDEX? Did Sculpt 3D? Yeah. They looked at the graphics and said Wow. Then they saw "Commode d'Or" above the booth, and yup, their head turned… right down the aisle. We've already delivered cool stuff that can't be found anywhere else, what good…
I don't believe it. I'm not saying I've got the answer here, but… Do most software warranty / contracts say that you can modify the executable in any way? On one hand, if they say "no", then you're really violating a point of contract if you hot patch, regardless of…
Well…. seems to me that the problem so far is more subtle…. the call being set is "ScrollRaster" and the program doesn't recover from the SetFunction call…. it's not an issue of the smoother func not working – if I call the thing (menu key) then press the menu button,…
Ah….. I bug to duffer wuth you, surrah. . The machine and the software is a gestalt, and cannot be separated, in my mind. It's synergy at work. I maintain that a computer is so flexible, that the software defines what KIND of tool it is, and not that the…
I said that if you don't have a lot of bugs, you don't need a huge _service_ department. Updates are not somethinf customers come screaming to you for, Henry – they don't say things like "It ate my Data!" "Why is the cursor on a different line than the one…
No, he needs narrator and translator – he wants to run CoComm, remember… –Ben– (It will work without them, but of course you lose the speech, which is a shame)
Um. Well, there's the matter of Ethics and Responsibility rearing their ugly heads. You see your responsibility as 100% to your client in the here and now – for which they (of course) like you. _I_ see your responsibility to the future of computing, as well, and it's weighty responsibility,…

CP == Communist Party?
Message #134166
Well, if you hate "communism," how about a "National Software Service"? The (democratically elected) government could set up Standard Difficulty Groupings for various types of application program. A name and address filer would be category A, a video store POS would be category B, a Galagan swooping onto a Vaus…
Hahaha – I haven't played anything good for awhile since DM. If Rings of Zilfin was made for the Amiga (I dunno) you may want to try it in the meanwhile – tis pretty good (tho not up to Ultima/DM level at all.)
Well you can do "bad" in Ultima and play the game, but you won't be able to finish it. The game is trying to teach you something – I don't have a problem with that. I don't think it's like every other RPG – it keeps track of variables of…

The player is given no real choice between good and evil. If he does good, he proceeds, if not, he doesn't. There are no real alternatives to being good and eventually saving the world, which makes it basically the same as every other RPG in existance. I've long wanted to…

Message #134159
The new issue of Amiga world has a review of Dr. T's KCS. The review mentions a conversion utility that allows KCS to read and write IFF files. My copy (bought the first week it was out) doesn't have this utility. Does anyone have more d details? Also what's the…
Copy protection doesn't stop that. Copy-protecting a $300 piece of productivity software is a way of punishing the legitimate user, while the thief still gets his copy (maybe 4 days later).
There is 1 register that the supra does not support – it has to do with the dialing speed, or, more precisely, the delay between dialing digitits. S11 I *think*. Actually I could be wrong about which register – it has been several months. We sold some "100% compatible Supra…

ST to AMY file transfer
Message #134154
Phil, Early versions of Dos-2-Dos would only read IBM disks. If a disk were formatted on an IBM (3.5") and then used on an ST, then Dos-2-Dos could read it. Current version of Dos-2-Dos does directly read and write ST disks. I'm not sure of the vendor's upgrade policy, though…
Jay, I DO write software, and have found it (indirectly) posted on pirate boards. I still agree with Henry that CP doesn't belong on productivity software. I'm not totally sure about games, but tend to believe that it doesn't belong there either. (Note that the word-from-the-manual protection in Empire was…
