Big Flics!
Message #23791
Gary Yes video post or render from scratch 3DSR2, is quite happy with big flics. It might be an idea to revise those file specs. The limit is nothing to do with the file it is just AniPro. Maybe you can look at the reason for this limit in the…
Big Flics!
Message #23790
Yann The 4300 flic was 800×600 the same as the target anim, the 8000 flic was 320×200 and therefore rendered as a .fli, after loading into AniPro I was able to resave this as an .flc file. Grahame
Martin I feel I must butt in to all this transatlantic advice (pace Martin F.) you are getting and give you a bit of a shock the ONLY truly suitable card for anybody operating in the PAL environment is the ATVista 4M. This is because of the extra memory requirements…
The genetic part refers to the potential for evolution. The theory revolves around algorithms which mutate(!) and by being used for the selected task are rejected or selected for further usage the idea is that eventually the program is optimised for its task, it also allows for adapting to changing…
Martin While you are on your favourite subject of Video-post I am still having no luck with crossfades. My original files were 24 bit and I was queueing the alpha, so it generated psuedo alpha. I swapped them for a single 32bit file(made with TOPAS many moons ago), no other…
I didn't think NTSC had any gods, only slightly colo(u)r blind daemons. From your PAL Grahame
Kevin I'd be interested in their 25 points (?) I really can't think of anything practical that could be done in TOPAS but not 3DSR2, but I await V4 with interest. I hope they are not basing their list on features which exist but don't really work well enough to…
Mike General impressions, and taking on board Ken's comment about being fair. Firstly TOPAS works mostly through the camera view, you can turn off perspective and align to any plane but it is much less of a CAD derived interface than 3DSR2. Multi-port viewing on a standard-res monitor is pretty…
Mike I have 3.5 years TOPAS experience and good knowledge of 3DSR2, how much do you need and what slant, features or usability. I started on a reply (offline) but ended up writing what would have ended up as pages of stuff. In terms of features it would be easy…

Martin Trees are the bane of my life ! I really believe that anything sufficiently realistic will just not render fast enough. One tree is fine, two trees, three trees but just look at any modern development….. lots of trees and lots of shrubs. Bring back the misguided disciples of…
Gary will do, see reply to Martin Mark thanks, ditto Grahame.
Martin Thanks for the suggestions I will read them more carefully in the morning and then try them out. Almost all my work is architectural so ask away. But we will have to whisper, don't want the competition hearing the hard bought secrets. Grahame.
oops, forgot to mention, it is all at field-rate. I do not think(?) that is particularly relevant but maybe you know different? Grahame

I'm sure that this will result in an embarrasing pointer to the relevant place in the manual. But I'm stuck and have to ask….. I am using video post to combine two sets of .tga files (24bit) The animations are identical apart from 1 object which changes. I have frames…
Rick It sounds like you should move the keyframes for the MORPH track of the belts, independantly of everything else. It may be one of those grey areas where the only answer is nudge & try…nudge & try. Lets face it if it was all easy everybody would be doing…
Are these drivers OAK compatible and where do I get them this side of the proverbial pond ??? – Grahame
Keith I have been leaving(or at least trying to leave) messages on your BBS asking about Nursery availability in Europe(UK). Can you help or should I resort to the telephone. I looked at the sample .GIFs – great stuff but my worry is what does it do to the rendering…
Gary I already have routines to transfer TOPAS .amf files to 3DSR2 .asc format they are currently "user friendly as a cornered rat" but if there is some interest I could them tidy them up a bit. The geometry is easy but going any further than that will mean going…
Ana After my first reply I tried PICLAB it will do the job but not seamlessly :-(. However Gary read your message more carefully than I did, see his suggestion elswhere. Also how are you laying to tape, remember "video post" is for people with no access to -complex- video…
Ana I cannot give you a full answer without trying it all out but it is possible that PICLAB could help you. It is a Shareware program, I found it on that amazing "Hot-Stuff" CD but it is probably on several Forum libraries. It would have to be batch file…
Sherwood When you say lost do you mean physically damaged? Because the one that is playing up now is a replacement for one that parked itself permanently whilst running a file from RIO to a QCR. I just put that down to MTBF, do feel it may be more sinister?…
Thanks Sherwood (sherwood?) Any thoughts or DRDOS the free Stacker appeals ? – Grahame
Tnx Gary I thought it was just that. Norton's has kindly marked the offending piece of rust, but what worries me is it is not the first ! – Grahame p.s. I am doing a lot of high-res. stuff at the moment and seem to have a problem with anti-aliasing…

I had a crash out on a Hi-res render with a large Swap file (40 Mb.) The message was "Phar Lap Fatal 10035 : 386|VMM From Readin Swap" I unerased the swap file and ran Nortons DT on it which showed a fault in the Slack are "Danger to come!"…

Welcome back You mean some people don't get dizzy spells after spending 18 hrs straight in front of SVGA :-} – Grahame (to avoid deleterious sun effects I can recomend Yorkshire)
Maybe the product needs wider distribution, I have the book (who has't ?). But I havn't seen the software on this side of the pond (UK)… – Grahame
My V2 just arrived call in a see it – but AFTER this weekends deadline !
If you still need help and want someone local my voice line is 071-480-6811 (Wapping)
Watch out there people a good (ex)friend once blew my TIPS dongle, an identical Sentinel Pro, by plugging it into the serial port ! The Dongle IS MARKED , computer ->, not very clearly but it is marked do not ignore it. – Grahame
Don't despair totally a 3D program can help with perspectives when you need an accurate texture, especially at high resolution. Its a matter of building a partial model and then rendering it over your background image. Setting up the camera is fiddly but sometimes you will achieve things that a…
Some people are going to have fun when they start using flat reflections without think fully about what they are doing (or reading the manual properly) I have a 4k (QCR) file that takes 104M of free disk space to render and that only uses one map! well worth the…
I know this is this is REALLY the wrong place but has anything been seen of TOPAS V4 I have asked my importer (Techex) but they are strangely quiet on the subject! – Grahame
More likely ME-109 thats the famous battle of Britain machine. – Gn
Thanks Mike, I heard it already but the writes it does are carefully staged to right through the phone service to add a little boost from every user to Big Bills bank account! – Gn
If this is considered as a solution then mind which cache software you use Smartdrv.sys (for instance) only caches reads so is non too efficient in practise. – Gn
