Jim, When you say "master Redbook audio from a DAT" do you really mean a "Master" or are you referring to a one-off (CD-R)? If the latter, then yes there are several packages which will make an audio CD-R and most of those work with DAT tape. If you really…

Val, I agree with Kathy 100%. Making 1000 identical CDs on one-off technology would be nuts. Much better (and far cheaper) to make a single premaster (one-off) then have one of us replicate for you. Jerry Warner CD Solutions, Inc.

Kevin, I've seen the data on the Trace CDP-5300 but haven't purchased one yet. We've been using silk screens with special ink. It works well but you've got to be making several copies of the same label to make it cost effective. Jerry

Val, Do you have a project in mind or just taking a survey? Our company offers one-off services as well as replication, shipping, inserts, packaging, and rush services. I don't feel very comfortable responding to such a blue sky set of questions with pricing. As I'm sure you understand, pricing…

Rich, That's my understanding anyway. Even with the old versions all you have to do is go into the forum header and tell it to update section and library names. After you've visited the forum two more times it's all correct. I did get a chance to try the Inmagic…

Fabian, What turn around time are the quotes you're getting based on? Are they including packaging? Are we talking audio or data? I'd find it a little hard to give a quote without knowing those items. Jerry Warner CD Solutions, Inc.
From: Jerry Warner CDROM Forum · General July 9, 1993 11:16 AM
Rich, I don't think your answer was correct in regard to Navigator users. The newer version of Navigator automatically notes changes in sections and makes the change automatically. There should be no reason to delete the forum and re-install it. Jerry

Rich, It was the hybred software of Dataware which I was unaware of. The start of this thread may have scrolled off by now but they hybred issue was the concern/object of discussion. Jerry P.S. I own you a "thanks".

We now have the ability to make multi-platform CD-Rs using a new software program currently in beta testing. In order to better evaluate the software we are asking anyone considering the multi-platform option to post an E-Mail message to us so we can discuss the issue. It is our hope…

Howard, Thanks! I'm off to the library. Jerry
From: Jerry Warner CDROM Forum · General June 28, 1993 11:30 AM
Howard, What are the chances of getting an upload of your XA article in something other than a Zip file such as text? I use my Mac for my CIS work. I'm sure there are others here who prefer the Mac as well (or Amiga, etc). Jerry
From: Jerry Warner CDROM Forum · CD ROM Production June 16, 1993 12:39 PM
Bob, The question you asks is a broad one. There's a file in the library here called "How_to.txt" which I'd suggest is a good place to start. Once you've read that I'd be happy to help you with any questions or to quote some prices. Jerry Warner CD Solutions, Inc.

John, Right. The publisher is the person who physically produces the discs and gives them to the distributor. A publisher may be as little as a service bureau. Since many people try to sell their own work, the distributor and developer are the same. Also in the case of in-house…

#49961 CD ROM Format Message #50063
From: Jerry Warner CDROM Forum · CD ROM Production June 7, 1993 2:12 PM
Dave, Actually not such an elementary question. There is a standard format for CD-ROM which can be read by most all machines. It's called an ISO 9660 format. There are also format specific CDs which require a particular machine such as a Mac of PC. Some discs are also mixed…

Glenn, I'll send you some E-Mail on our services. You'll save yourself some money if you either mail those floppies or rent a tape unit. I'll send the pricing info ever E-Mail too so as to comply with CIS rules. Jerry Warner CD Solutions, Inc.
From: Jerry Warner CDROM Forum · CD ROM Production June 7, 1993 2:12 PM
Paul, You're hardly being fair. You're suggesting Glenn go out and shell out $6995 for some hardware, plus a few thousand for some software just so he can buy Kodak blanks. All this because he doesn't want to spend a few hundred on a tape unit. Seems to me you'd…

Sanjay, One more bug (or two). You may have already heard about the new compression driver that allows more data to be written to a CD-ROM. It allows 1.3 GB or more of data on a CD. The second bug, you mentioned staying with a DOS platform. Since you're talking…

Sanjay, I have a few opinions on the topic you've brought up. While it is possible to simply scan an image file onto the CD and use software such as Frame Maker or Folio to view those images as pages, that is most likely not the best solution. The value…

Terry, No the CD-ROM compression algorithm isn't one that CD Solutions came up with but we can use it. The compression, CRI-X2 is a compression driver by CD ROM, Inc. (303-526-7600). They have achieved lossless compression rates in the range of 8:1, and lossy compression rates in the range of…

Jan, Ok, so the publisher didn't know about the virus when he went to press. Lets give him that benefit. He knows now. To continue to sell the discs is (I think) a violation of Federal law. If it isn't illegal, then yes! I think it should be made so.…

What about the TMM compression? It's supposed to handle up to four hours of 30 fps video and doens't have compression degregation. Screen size doesn't matter because of the method of compression. I don't know much about this one, just what I've read in a few press releases. Jerry
