Are you thinking what I am thinking? Kind of a poor man's implementation of motion and angular-rotation data? -Arturo 8*)
Thanks a lot, we'll test it although, yes, we need to do it in the Editor and not in the keyframer. I downloaded your KBDTRF routine from Asoft, I'll give it a shot right away. -Arturo
Thanks for the tip Alan, good enough for now. -Arturo
#rotation accuracy
Message #112967
When rotatin an object I can only rotate it in .25 of degree increments and I need better precision than that. I have tried to change the angle snap in drawing aids and looked around in the 3ds.set to see if there is some default but to no avail. Help…
You might want to contact someone at FTI (Forensic Technologies) they do a lot of computer simulations for legal cases.(415)398 1995 You can ask them what publications they refer to.
#3D editor to shaper
Message #112946
Is there any way to send, put, export a face from the editor into the shaper?. This seem like a very basic need. If I create a shape, extrude it, deform it etc and further modify in the editor, there is no way I can see to get a face…
Handshake to you :>
Hello, when you display a bitmap on the shaper (to trace something over) if you zoom in, the bitmap remains the same and when you zoom out you have lost the position of your shape. Is there any way to rescale the bitmap or lock them together? Thanks for your…
HI, is the 3DS release mentioned out yet? I am using R3 and I have not seen any way to input motion-files. We are doing that in Wavefront on our SGI but it would be great if we could use it in our 3D stations. Thanks, Arturo
The wand detects a difference in HSV based on the set threshold. An edge occurs because of that difference so although it is not an "edge detector" it can be used the same way.
Hi, somewhere I read of a routine that simulates film grain, scratches and other film "artifacts". I do not know if it is an IPAS routine. Don't even know if it works for .FLC or .FLI. Maybe it is for "high end" Softimage, Wavefront kind of stuff. I am interested…
ahh! ditto. Arturo
I am sorry I missed the ??, could you repeat your suggestion for a seamless texmap? thanks
I must have missed the beggining of this, but we are interested, can you fill me in? Arturo
Photoshop's or Photostyler magic wand function works very well. I am doing a stop motion video in which I have to replace the background. I only wish this programs implemented a "batch" or script mode like DeBabelizer to make it easy for us animators to deal with this type of…
In that case I would recommend Metaflo by the Valis Group in Tiburon, CA. 800 825-4704 or if you need to talk to the genius that programmed this jewel, call Boris at (415) 492-0418. This program (Mac only with a PC version coming out by the end of the year)…
This is one of those cases when an "old fashion" match dissolve (film or video) will probably be more cost-time effective. Have your models walk a predetermined path (even use the music track as a metronome) and the have them walk the same path again with another set of clothes.…
You might need to tidy your logo even more before you extrude. Coretrace might create a very large number of vertexes which might be unnecesary. As for toggling back and forth why don't you render with the DISPLAY option off? 🙂 This might speed up the rendering considerably. -Arturo
In 3D editor choose SURFACE-Mapping -adjust -scale and adjust the yellow icon (the little handle represents the UP position) to match the size you want in relation to your object). Also adjust the orientation if needed. -Arturo
Right, that did it for us. Thanks to all
Great tip, thanks. Maybe there are other "hot" keys for other functions that do not allow you to select by name. Who knows what lurks 😐 Good 3Diing! Arturo
hi, yeah, that is not an option in that mode (the selected button). You first wante to "detach" the parts of the car (by using CREATE Object detach), that allows you to "name" each part individually to assign attributes, or mapping textures or whatever. You will lose those names when…
Hi Matthew, I shopped around for a while and decided on a card called VTV-2000. It is an animation, video controller (and a bunch of other things. It requires a high speed HD (like Micropolis AV series) but it does not hog it up all to itself like the PAR…
Hi Jeffrey, draw your faces counter-clockwise. That way the normals will point outwards or rather towards you. Or simply reverse them in 3Dstudio but it is better to do it at origin. To group objects just go to the 3d editor and select CREATE Object attach. e.g. attach bolts to…
Gary, thanks the prompt response, We tried that right away. William and I work together, I am on the 3D Studio side by the way. New problem; now a message in the 3d editor says "no 3D entity found". Before, the dxf could be imported into the editor, but we…
#DXF Import
Message #109895
Hi David , we did it and it worked. Thank you
Jonas, thanks for your reply. We already figured it out. It was just a discrepancy between "unit" settings in Autocad and 3ds. They both have to be in inches for what we are doing, oh well… Arturo
Gary, thanks for your advice. We tried today to import a 10' square poly lin Autocad. The units were set in 3dStudio to 1=1 foot. When measured the square was 12 times larger or 120'. When we exported a 10' square measured in 3ds to Autocad it came out 10"…

Hi Danny. I am new to this forum but this sounds very interesting. I work for a game developing company. Hope to get some news from you. Thanks.
