#Letter to Santa
Message #22353
Gary- Since everyone seems to be in the wishing mood, I thought I would let you know the one major thing I would like for Christmas (or Easter, or whenever you release R3). REALTIME previews. It doesn't have to be fancy, just flatshaded, or even wireframe if you must, but…

#Networking
Message #22352
James- Thanks for your reply and info. I'll definently look into the 10 mbps system. I'm glad you mentioned that or I may have made a regrettable mistake. I tend to be pretty tight fisted with my purchases simply because I'm trying to get everything else paid off. Also appreciate…
#Flics for Broadcast
Message #22351
Sherwood- I'm using the Targa+ to output my AAPro animations to tape one frame at a time. Like you say, it's OK but not great. Have you compared the Mediator vs. the T+. If you feel that it is considerably better output, I would be interested in sending you a…

.PRJ files
Message #22323
Gary- Thanks for the tip on using a batch file. You're right, it's more of a convenience than a necessity, and like I said, I really haven't had the need yet, but probably will someday soon. -Mark
Footbal Helmet
Message #21769
I am attempting to create a fairly accurate football helmet, but am not having much success. The subtle curves and lips along with the shape just don't seem to lend themselves to any modeler functions that I can think of. (And I don't have 400 smackers to but Viewpoints helmet).…
Return of the Pinwheels
Message #21768
Gary- I thought this was fixed in R2, but suddenly I seem to be getting pinwheels again in SurfReved lofts. The example I'm working on currently is a quarter circle (upper left) alligned Left lofted with a full 360 degree path. The point of convergence (Y axis) is where the…
DougIs there any way to export models from PlayMation? (DXF or 3DS) -Mark
Gary- Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. I've seen the threads regarding a few glitches with Lantastic, are you happy with Novell? Are you using Lite or a full blown version? -Mark
Eli, Thanks for the info. That sounds like just the ticket. Honestly, I had my doubts if anything like this was available. Thanks again. -Mark
Sherwood- The new buzz around here is CDI (Compact Disk Interactive). The players cost $750 (consumer) to $1500(industrial, both from Phillips) and you basically put together an entire multimedia presentation on CD. There would be no moving around in real time (ala Virtual Reality) as far as you couldn't control…
Gary- The more I've thought about my "Black Hole" material, the more complicated I've realized that it would be. If it were even possible to do, it would really have to be specially coded in the renderer and assigned as a special material attribute because in my example, you would…
#'Black Hole' Texture
Message #21478
Gary- Let me first start by explaining what I'm doing. You may have a way around this without my "Black Hole" material. I'm animating a highly reflective desktop with several static items sitting on it. The animation consists of a paper wad landing on this desktop and unfolding into a…
Mike- Thanks for the ideas. I was thinking along those lines, but I haven't used ripple enough to know exactly what it is capable of. I'll give it a try and let you know how it turns out. -Mark
Phil- Thanks for the hint on rebooting. In my case I'm not using an external MathCo (486) but I think my .EXE on my hard drive must have gotten corrupted somehow. I ended up reinstalling the .EXE and everything works fine again. Thanks. -Mark
#Paper Wad
Message #21249
Jamie- I'm looking for a tip on something I'm trying to do, and since you're the morphing guru I thought I would ask you, but hints from anyone would be appreciated. I'm wanting to have a wadded up piece of notebook paper land on a desk and then unfold itself.…
#Rebooting
Message #21248
Gary- I'm not sure what the prob was, but I ended up reinstalling 3DS and everythings OK. -Mark
#Rebooting
Message #21233
Gary- Help. The Reboot gremlin has struck one of my machines. Whenever I'm in the materials editor and select A for automatic reflection map and then click on the word AUTOMATIC, my machine either locks up or reboots. Any ideas what could be causing this? To my knowledge, I havn't…
Phil- Thanks. Please let me know if you learn anything. -Mark
#Wacom SD-510C Driver
Message #20317
I purchased a Wacom SD-510C tablet at Sigraph with the intention of using it with AAPro. The tablet seems to be working OK with the exception of the aspect ratio. Left to right seems to be OK, but top to bottom is a problem. My curser is at the bottom…

Command line rendering..
Message #20069
Thanks Gary, I hadn't checked my mail when I posted the message, but I received a card that said the exchange room. See you tomorrow night. -Mark
Kevin- That's good news! Thanks for checking. Do I just contact Ron direct or do I need to go through a dealer? -Mark

Command line rendering..
Message #19656
I second your request Keith, if I understand your idea correctly. I'm thinking of a Batch button within the render dialogue box that would take all of the rendering parameters that you have set and write them out to a command line. Is that what you are thinking? -Mark

Importing Mac Graphics
Message #19063
Robert- Thanks for the info and the offer. I think I will have the client try to give me the files converted from his end first. I've been told that the newer Macs with superdrives can write pc compatable files. If that doesn't work, I may have you check on…
Gary- Thanks for the info on the Sigraph meeting. We rescheduled our flights to come in on Mon. so we can attend. It will be nice just to talk with everyone that is here on the forum, and put faces with names. We're looking forward to seeing you again. BTW,…
Jorge- Thanks for the info. I think I'm OK as far as reading the MAC files. I have several programs that are able to do that. My concern was actually transferring the file to my PC, but I've been told, just as you said, that the newer Macs will write…
Mike, Thanks for the info. I'll have to check with the client to see what type of setup they have. I'm a Mac illiterate so this is all new to me. Thanks again for the info. -Mark
Gary- Thanks for the info on the fade to black. That makes sense now that I think about it. In regards to the darkening cross-fade, I think I've found the problem. I haven't looked at it in several weeks, but it appears that I was using Psuedo Alpha for my…
Grahame- I'm glad someone else is having the same problem. I was afraid it was my video deck or something. I'll be very interested to see what the solution is. I have the same problem just crossfading between 2 images. For example, I wanted to fade between image one (A…
Steven- Thanks for the info. That helps me alot. I didn't know how I would get the files across with different formats. Thanks again. – Mark
Importing Mac Graphics
Message #18559
Help!- I have a client that has designed some logos on a Mac that they want me to animate in 3DS. I unfamiliar with that platform. I assume that I can import the graphics in Corel Draw! but I'm not sure how to get the files onto my PC. Does…
Steve- Terrific! Thanks again. -Mark
Rick- Are you in Tulsa? We are in Edmond (OKC) and really don't do legal stuff, mainly broadcasts advertising animation, but I know of a couple of people in OKC that seem to be doing OK in the legal presentation business. If you would like, I can give you their…
#SMPTE Bars
Message #18329
Steve- Thanks for the SMPTE Bars. Does converting it to a .GIF change any of the colors of the original .TGA? Thanks again. -Mark
Gary- If you decide definently on Monday for the meeting, please let us know ASAP. Right now we are scheduled into Chicago Tues, AM ,but one of our major reasons for spending the bucks to come is for the Users Group Meeting, so we will need to reschedule our flights.…
Rock- I'll let you know as soon as I have time to load up the shipping version. I know I have that problem now with the beta release I've been using. Have you tried to shell out to Dos and then reenter R2? That seems to bring the correct file…
Fonts for R2
Message #12365
Gary- Thanks. I'll send in the card. I'm in no hurry, just wanted to make sure I was on the list. Thanks for the info on fonts, I'm not big into Desktop Publishing and am somewhat unaware as to what's available along those lines. BTW, I read your thread with…
Rock- I havn't installed the ship version of R2 yet so I don't know if the dissappearing files have been fixed or not. Apparently not if your having trouble with them. Bob Howard and I both informed John S. at ADesk of the problem and he was looking into it.…
James- Thanks for the info on unthreading. Until R2 I had no way of going direct to tape anyways (I use a BCD 5000) so I really didn't look into the Park stuff at all. I've always gone to tape directly from disk. Does Park just move the tape to…
Rock- If your worried about tape wear, just set THRD=0 in your BCDSETUP.TXT. That unthreads the machine after each edit. The only prob I have with rendering directly to tape is that in a longer animation, it's a real mess if your machine happens to botch or completely miss an…
#Fonts for R2
Message #12083
I am wanting to expand my library of fonts. With R2 able to accept Bezier and Type 1 fonts, I am looking for recomendations of different font packages available (Names, price, etc.) Any suggestions? Also, the manual said to contact the sysop if interested in receiving info on the IPAS…
Tom- You're probably wondering where the tape is. The fact of the matter is that I went on vacation to CO. and forgot to put it in the mail. Sorry! It really is going out today. Hope I havn't messed you up. -Mark
I'll get the tape off to you tomorrow. -Mark

3D Studio R2 LOCKED?
Message #10662
I'm don't know a lot about networking either (never have really had the need to learn). I guess I'm thinking about a peer-to-peer type that you mentioned, simply to be able to share files and devices. I don't know if R2 could be run from a server. I would guess…
Actually I think my problem is with the centering on my card. (Just a guess). Because I can't see the leftmost and rightmost edges on my monitor, I have difficulty setting the centering. About 4% of the left side is out of view and about 2% of the right. I…
Maybe my concept of underscan is flawed. I guess what I'm wanting is the change in aspect ratio that I used to get with my T16 and F3. My problem is the left and right edges of the image. With F3, old Tips used to change the aspect ratio to…
Just out of curiosity, do you know the brand name of your motherboard?
Robert- If you find out, please let me know. It's not a real big deal, but it is handy from time to time. Kevin Krell told me that Tips+ should allow me to switch to it but I can't seem to get my Tips+ to do it. I hit F6…
