You need to add DOS 5's SETVER.EXE to your CONFIG.SYS file to tell MSCDEX that you have a different DOS version. Alternatively, you need MSCDEX version 2.21 which seems to be in short supply of late. Robert Hunter said it is available on a subscription BBS at 503-695-3250. Check LASER3.TXT…

MS BBS @ 206-936-4082 for version 2.21; it's not supported officially, but it seems to be better-behaved than its earlier cousins.

Oops, I forgot to mention in my earlier reply that I haven't heard of any way to nuke MSCDEX without external utilities. MS didn't exactly create the most well-behaved program when they created it. Their best technical advice still thinks it won't loadhi… but we all know better!

John, altho' there isn't anything on loadinghi with QEMM, you might look over LASER2.TXT in Lib #4 for some ideas; it does discuss some of the _challenges_ of loadinghi with DOS that might trigger something for you. Kevin–

Sue, you can download SONY_CDU.SYS and MSCDEX.EXE from Sun-Moon-Star's BBS at 408-452-8281 (they were there about 2 weeks ago). The MSCDEX is a little out of date, compared to version 2.21, which is here in Lib4 (MSCDEX.ZIP). Hope it helps. Kevin–
