For _my_ home purposes anything that isn't character-based is overkill. All I do is edit text and telecommunicate. Of course, everyone else's mileage varies. I just wanted to make the point that Apple has done the work to make up for some of their deficiencies – even work that was…

Uh, geez, I'd love to Jonathan and I just happen to have right here… everything but that. I _thought_ I'd seen it in the Aug. AW but I can't find it now. Must've seen it elsewhere. In any case, I copied down the company name and put it in my…

I have an A2500 that I need to update; specifically, I want to put WB2 and my SCSI drive into it. As I received it, it looks like this: Rev. 6 motherboard (1988) Rodime 3055 HD HD Controller GX B-VO 8752 with ROM at back numbered 390230-03 2090A 2FEF ROMs…

Andrew, It _does_ make a difference but it doesn't happen enough. And even when it does, users still have a hell of a time getting their systems to work right unless they're very PC savvy. Malcolm

Andrew, I sounds good but for the most part it's not happening. I _don't_ find that things are getting easier. I just bought a HD that came with NO paper. It said "Connor" and a model number. Didn't say "SCSI". Didn't indicate it's capacity. Nothing. All I had was a…

Donald (& David), One of the cool things about Windows is that you can become a real hacker just by editing ASCII. One of the BAD things is that you can also cripple it catastrophically. Today I had some video drivers for 3.0 that wouldn't install in 3.1 by following…

From: Malcolm O'Brien Amiga User Forum · Bridgeboard/AMAX July 9, 1993 10:45 PM
Andrew, There's no question that the early adopters were tech freaks and that most of today's user base is not. Most of the people who've gotten into using computers in the last few years want them to be only marginally more difficult than using a TV and (preferably) easier than…

Andrew, The mom & pop is pretty much right! It's like a "making the most of your home office and having fun in your off hours" kind of thing. I don't have a problem with that particularly but it's not something I want to read. I WANT HARD DATA AND…
Andrew, Yeah, I believe the PowerPCs are RISC chips. They're supposed to be $250 compared to
The tragedy of the industry is that an increasing number of tech explanations in magazines only demonstrate that the author doesn't know what he's talking about (or is unable to express it). Or they don't even try. I'm reading much fewer these days. Malcolm
I think Taligent is supposed to come up with the Pink OS. The PowerPC chips are from Motorola's part, of course. Malcolm
#105596 #386-BB mouse3.drv Message #105846
Pete, BUT will it make the Windows pointer work for mouse support in windowed DOS sessions (eg. in EDIT)? (I suspect it won't.) I find I usually have to put Microsoft's MOUSE.COM into the autoexec.bat to get proper results. Malcolm

I'm eager to get a SCSI drive into my A590. I know there's a jumper inside the device that I have to set but do I have to do anything with the DIPs on the back of it? If anyone can tell me what the DIPs are for, I'd appreciate…

Robert, I agree with you. In the future we'll have multi-gigabyte machines with killer processors that create a virtual reality desktop that's indistinguishable from a real desktop. We'll write less and crunch fewer numbers. We'll spend most of our time looking for things. A phone call will go like this:…

Dave, Thanks for the reply. My friend seems to think he can get the 3.5 in by removing the mounting hardware and not fixing the drive in place. Not something _I'd_ want to do. Malcolm
A friend of mine has an A1200 and has suggested that it will take a 3.5" HD. It was my understanding that the 1200 wanted a 2.5" drive. Is it possible to put in a 3.5? If so, are there any "gotchas" lying in wait for the unsuspecting user? Malcolm

John, Just to add one thing… DON'T click on EPSF unless your file is going to be a component of another page somewhere; i.e., it will be loaded into another program. If you've made your own page (complete in itself, as I suspect) leave the EPSF button unfilled and have…

Rich, I think you used a hex file editor (or disk editor) to change a byte so a call for the standard requester would fail and PgS would sub its own. Sound familiar? Malcolm
