OK, I a sucker to spend money. I even bought WorldBuilder. Where can I get this routine? I hardly ever see anything for sale outside of Digimation, Schreiber, and Yost. Funny you should say that about LensFX. I did some explosions with it just like David said in the Planet…
Well maybe not. I'm waiting for my copy of WorldBuilder to arrive. THAT maybe the best. Anyway, I use Magic and LenzFX to generate explosions just like David A. of Digimation described in an article in Planet Studio. The options for LenzFX are numerous and will take some time to…
Jeff, I caught a lot of flak over the SGI thing. Let me give you the story: I went to a SGI demo of the Indigo2 Extreme with the new video subsystem SGI developed. It knocked my socks off. They did 30fps in realtime with shading and rendering. An additional…
Your right in that none of those option affect the rendering… except the processor. In the case of the OpenGL cards, the rendering is offloaded to the card itself somewhat. So its a case of the processor and the video subsystem under Win NT. 3DSr4 no, its processor only.
#Premiere 4.0
Message #188179
Is anyone using Premiere 4.0 for their editing with the PAR? I would like everyones experience. Ours: Horrible! Won't work with the ATI video cards we have on a consistent basis. Love Premiere when it works. Love Razor Pro too but its not as versatile. Later…
Call Digimation and order LenzFX. One of the best IPAS routines on the planet. It can address the z-buffer to defocus through one of its modules. Its around $295 I think. Have fun…!
BTW, do you have an idea how much this is going to speed up rendering? I tired of waiting 3-30 hours for scenes to render at SVGA/PAR resolutions. I thought the SGI was suppose to be fast until some of the people here told me no. I've got a P100/32MB/ATI…
Haven't seen that card. Got a number? I'll call and get info for everyone.

Just thought I would drop a note concerning all this tech stuff since I've doing a lot of research lately for the same reason: MAX and World Builder 1. Did a demo of the new SGI Indigo2 Extreme last week with the brand new video subsystem. It knocked my socks…
Been talking with Intergraph and a few other people about workstations. I haven't receives WB yet so I don't know but I have to assume that it is a DOS app. Intergraph is building dual Pentium workstations with a cool OpenGL graphics subsystem that would probably do the trick but…

Thanks Mike for the info. What processor are you using? We've got P90s and 100s. Most have 32mb ram. Talk to you soon.
Thanks for the info Martin, I'll let you know.
Kyle, The Indigo we demoed is a brand new OpenGL set of video cards for the Indigo2. We demoed set 1. Set 2 is promised by November and promises 2-3 times the speed of set 1. And set 1 was super. We are going to a demo here in Dallas…
Thanks for the info. I don't mind waiting and in fact I am certain that we will wait until MAX ships to do an eval. The SGI thing I was talking about is brand new. And next version of the video cards is promised by November. SGI is talking 2…
I will find out. We ordered it two weeks ago from Digimation and they were out of stock at the time. Price is not the issue for me. Performance is. I don't mind spending 70 grand for an Indigo or a bearded lady for that matter as long as the…
Thanks Phil for the reply. The thing that got me with the SGI workstation was the act that I would only have to buy one of them and avoid the Win NT networking situation. That one lonely SGI would replace all of my Pentiums now. Even though I can get…
#World Builder IPAS
Message #187463
I don't know what everybody else is doing with 3D Studio but I consider World Builder an item long due. Creating real scenery for flight sequences has been a real pain! VistaPro just is not good enough. No shading under the trees, etc. What I don't agree with is the…
#3DS MAX and SGI/ALIAS
Message #187461
Hi there, This is the first time I have sent a message to one of the "big wigs" of 3DS but I thought it was time. I do CD-ROM and video tape production and am on the verge of starting a production house. I love 3D Studio. At the time…
I'll do some digging and give you and address. Look throught some of the other messages here too.
Absolutely! You can call me at (800) 755-7702 then 2 then 2029. Or (817) 837-2029. Talk to you soon!
Dear Dana, Sorry to have taken so long to get back to you. I think that you will find most of the animation field is still a mom-and-pop kind of organization. While there are some great schools out there, and some great companies like Industrial Light and Magic, Digimation, Rhythm…
3DS Artists Wanted
Message #172968
We are looking for 3DS artists for video tape and CD-ROM development and production. You must live in the Dallas-Ft.Worth area or be relatively close. Long-distance relationships are not possible for the kinds of things we are developing. Future game development is possible too. We are looking for experienced people…
#3DS Ani Wanted
Message #145134
I am looking for 3DS animators in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area for videotape, CD-ROM, and possibly game production. These are royalty only jobs. They involve aviation and technical subjects and will include inverse kinematics, rotoscoping, and lots of ipas usage. You should have, or have access to your own hardware…
I am looking for 3DS animators for videotape (final format: VHS) , cd-rom production, and possibly games. These are royalty-only jobs. The production involves aviation related topics. I already have a distributor. The subject matter is more "real-world" stuff: aircraft, runways, buildings, people, terrain, weather, aircraft cut-aways and diagrams, some…
Thanks for the help Brian. I have a call into Colin already. Could you give me the exact software setup you have in 3ds.set and any other tweakes that you have done. Also, did you get the VGA pass through to work? I am going to download the latest Matrox…
3DSR4 & Matrox Illum Pro
Message #133647
Yea, I checked it… the spelling is right in 3ds.set. But the rendering still hangs and I have to reboot. Colin at Matrox tech support thinks there may be changes to 3D Studio Release 4 that are different enough than R3 to cause problems. I have the latest drivers from…
Thanks for the reply. Yes 3d Studio R4 works fine with the normal Vibrant drivers set to Compaq mode. Renderings are fine and the display works fine. No I did not write the rdpapi, it came as a software driver with the Matrox card.

I have 3D Studio R4 on a Compaq 486/66 Eisa (Deskpro M) with a Qvision 1280 E video board and a Matrox Illuminator Pro 4MB DVE Frame Buffer. I have talked extensivly with Matrox and we are all stumped. I put the render-display to rdpapi configuration per the instructions in…
