BTW, The reason I asked is there was some really nice code for Intel uploaded to the GRASP Beta BBS and I wondered if it was you. You should grab it if it is still there…

Actually, that demo was rather inexpensive (under 20K!) Animation works lets us do wonderful things easily and demo costs are coming down… If you want, I'll send you the Zenith Z-Station demo too. It is a couple megs arc'd. You want me to upload it like the other one?
Thanks so much. I have noted your PPN and will keep you posted. He will be spending some time in Uffington and will probably journey north from there…
Phil, What is the name of the company you are affiliated with now? What are you guys up to? If you need it, I have an old family friend in Ireland who has a daughter in England. She is about 23 or 24 and is an artist. Could you use…
Well, no matter how much I like a product, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't feel comfortable with the company. I have had very good luck with customer support. Maybe its because I am a dealer??? Anyway, someone had a Magni producer for sale a while back. Maybe…
Yea, lots of work, but is anyone paying???? grrrrr…..
Martin, My 3D specialist, Brett Bentley is going to the UK in late August to work on a project we have there. I am sure he wouldn't mind visiting Abderdeen for a couple of days and working with you on 3DS if you are interested. He is fully capable of…
That's what the HC is about! Video out! (But not in high-color mode, if that's what you mean.) Call Betty at GRAFX (714) 240-7105 and she will fax you a spec sheet and price.
I have followed the thread a little Ray, but I will add my two cents here. Autodesk's support policies, i.e., going through your dealer, are suspect in my opinion. However, I love the company and I firmly believe that if it really is all that bad and folks keep complaining,…
We handle the VISION VGA-HC which has hi-color support and their proprietary flicker-filter. It is about $700 though. There are cheaper ones out there…

Ray, what is the current price on Topas? I mean fully configured to be competitive with 3DS? Are they even competitive yet?
16 bit
Message #19087
So what is the quickest way to do 16 bit (sierra) renderings? I have a new WD board with the 90c31 chip and Sierra DAC. Any panacea stuff available yet?
I use stacker on my Toshiba 4400 with ANI Pro and no problems. It seems to be machine dependent though, so be careful.
I better have them before the end of next week. I believe that Hercules may be using them for Siggraph so I may not be able to grant permission, but I'll see. Of course, if they are public images, it won't matter. I'll keep ya posted….
Gary, Brett is doing 5 images for Hercules for their new 24bit board in 1152×900 24bit. What a neat res to see 3DS images in! Some are ones you've seen, but I'll send you a copy of any new ones.
Hey Martin, RTFM is a reserved word for developers! Only Gary and Jack can use it in public. Shame on you…(grin)

Dirk, I get that if there isn't enough memory allocated. For example, if you are on an 8MB machine and your config has the line… device=emm386.exe RAM ON then you won't have enough for Phar Lap to recognize, but windows will really fly! I usually divide my memory in half…
I have been to the newtek booth and seen it first hand at Siggraph and places. No one I know in the broadcast industry thinks that the signal output from the toaster is high-enough quality. The 3-D programs are another thing. I know there are several good ones on the…

I haven't been privy to any discussions on 24 bit color support so I don't know what they're up to. I do know that for the product to be successful it has to stay on the leading edge and the programmers I speak with are very committed to that goal.…
If it's of any value to you, the summa driver works nicely. It is just the WACOM driver that is messed up. I have spoken with WACOM and although they claim no-foul since you guys wrote the driver, they are willing to help in any way possible…Maybe someone could give…

I forgot what I said. What is it you want to see? (sorry) BTW, I am creating at least one piece for your IBM project… Hope to meet you guys some day…
Wrong! I set it to .01 yesterday and solved all the problems…
Thanks Jack. I'll try that…
Jack, I was rendering something yesterday and when I got closer than .5 inch (I was in architectural coords) with the camera it failed to render at all. Is this a bug? I can upload a small model which bombs… What I am doing is a 'pull back' with the…
We welcome all MAC and WIndows users (generically) in the animation forum. GO COMART, section 10. I am interested in getting some MAC folks over there since the MAC seems to be dying out. Recent analysis we did to support a mass merchandising campaign for interactive marketing showed that less…
Hmmm. SOunds like a lot of money for about half of what Animation Works gives for $395. Can you compare presenter more with an animation product than slide show program? Perhaps I am being misled. Also, feel free to continue this inthe animation section of COMART forum. I'm not sure…
Price is 3K Sergio. A little more pricey than most Amiga stuff, but by far the best value on the PC platform.
Gee, I spend a bit of time at my friend's flat on the corner of Blackfriar's bridge. I could probably see you if I lean out over the river far enough… Haven't been to jolly ol' for about a year though…
They better do something! From my perspective, at the current time there is *NO* reason to buy a MAC over a PC. Apple has been losing ground steadily for years now, and unless they can do something with IBM, they will be a memory by the year 2000. Of course,…
..nnd the same solution we used for growing comm lines for the movie "Sneakers". But Brett thought it up all by his lonesome, even after all the Yost bugging I did… (grin)
Oh boy! A time to dig a little! You know, since you already have to convert to 256 color images anyway for FLC or GIF files, it wouldn't hurt to put in a good 16 color reduction routine. Then we could use 3DS as a direct support tool for the…
The reason this was public mail rather than private was that I didn't have your PPN. It is now it my address book. I will give Joe a call. I forgot about him! Thanks…
Yea, I saw it. Thanks. I also had a meeting yesterday and decided that I probably wouldn't get into that business. There are 73 companies in So Cal alone doing accident reconstruction. I spoke with the president of the So Cal Trial Lawyers association and he said most courts now…
Actually, it didn't occur to me to look on the CD ROM. Thanks!

Bruce, Can I send you a couple VGA images to print? I need something I can get to an editor for reprint in an article. Perhaps 35MM would be best? I lost your card so I don't have your number. Maybe you could call me? Thanks…

Message #12632
Can anyone (or everyone) point me to messages, articles and examples of forensic applications of 3D studion? I am helping a lawyer friend of mine learn about it. If anyone has any examples of theings they have done in FLC format or articles in magazines or correspondence here, I would…
Actually, it was the developer's program I was referring to. If you are a certified Autodesk developer, then you are definitely NOT allowed to use the free copies of 3D Studio for commercial gain. I would assume that this would include companies like Panacea, for example. But if they go…
Thanks Kev. And what is the current price for a 64? (You can E-Mail me on this if you want to keep low-key)
According to discussions I have had with Autodesk, it is NOT legal to use 'demo' copies of 3DS for commercial purposes. But you should check with John Sergneri in developer relations at Adesk for more info. There are several of us out here who have bought at least 1 copy…
Why would one want a T64? Isn't 2 pages of 32bit color a little overkill? Especially when two page animation is out of the question? Is it for field rendering or something?
Kevin, what is the highest resolution a Targa+ can do 24 bits on? Also, what is the minimum memory configuration to get it? And you say there are Windows drivers? for 3.1?

My opinion? Windows sucks. But then, what do *I* know… Windows is here to stay, and so is slow animation for a while…
No one ever said that it wasn't a powerful product. Just that it was a little difficult to use, and that it doesn't necessarily have to be that way! A slightly different user interface would allow many more people to create awesome animations…
Whoa! 7??? I thought it was 5:00???
At GRAFX, we generate 256 color FLCs, then image process the heck out of them to get them to 16 colors. The biggest failing of ANimator and Animator Pro is the total ignoring they do of standard video modes. But there are ways around it with GRASP and a variety…
Fred, I use MM Windows all the time now with Gold Disk's Animation Works. Look into it!
How did you ever get a contract like that if you can't create the graphics? Anyway, there are several professional houses available here on CIS. Also check the animation forum, COMART DL17, for more info on non-Autodesk products. Specifically, I can help you with clips and actors for Animation Works.…
