Mark, Tell him to send the mail to 72703.1214@compuserve.com. That should do the trick. Sean.

PCMCIA is NOT a bus system… it's a memory mapping system. If you want to map a bus into memory it can do that (as an example an AT/IDE drive or just plain memory). PCMCIA was not even concieved for such applications as it's used for today (somewhat like SCSI…

Does anyone know of a name completion tool like in the PC shell for the AMIGA? Is there a disk cache program out ther that has a writeback mode? Sean.
Word finder
Message #107624
Dear all, Does anyone know of a programm which is dedicated to searching text files for strings and which also has a Workbench interface? What i'm looking for should mark those files with "the word" and then allow you to jump in just there. Sean.
Thanks for the reply. Sean. p.s. I'll post a message as soon as I get the time to get it running. (or not :-))
sorry for seem ing so sharp (i just re read my old message). I wanted to ask if you know if it's possible in theory to get the right amount of power out of a PC supply to run a blank 2000 on. Would I have to modify the PC…
hmmm… The problem isn't that I NEED a stronger or better supply than before, it's just that I always had the amiga running along as a sort of terminal which I could use when this computer (the one I'm using now) was doing something else like AP or Graphics processing.…
Well as I _am_ going to try maybe you could tell me why I shouldn't. I reconed that the TIC vs. VBLANK would probably upset the counters a bit but who cares as the a2000 is a write off without a power supply. I could always pay 200.- DM for…

Message #107122
Dear Hardaware, I would like to know if anyone out there has documented a switch from the original Amiga 2000 power supply to a PC-AT power supply. I want to replace my burnt out supply with a PC supply and am not quite sure about the TIC signal, which according…

Dear All, I have the Internet address of a friend. The problem is that his user name is either wrong or non existant. To whom do I leave mail on the system to find out what his usser name is??? Is it postmaster or something else?? Sean.
I thought it might be somewhat like that. Thnaks for the info. Sean.
Ah I see (said the blind man)! 🙂 I think that it'll help though in my understanding of the MATRIX. Sean. p.s. Thanks for the answer. p.p.s. Is UUNET part of USENET or a service?
Ther is a file called uucp16.lha (or similar) which contains a port of UUCP for the amiga. It should be in amigauser. UUCP is laid out for mail and news so it should be what you need. Sean.
No what I mean is that if you put INTERNET in fron the user comes back as unknown.. I "think" that the system is a USENET (?) sys so I'm not sure if I've got to go through some gateways to get there….. any ideas?? Sean.

does anyone know how to get a message to jeskos@informatik.rwth-aachen.de??? Sean.
I know. I know. I'm really ashamed of myself for spouting such rubbish. I think that it's good that I have software that does the addressing of my mail for me or that one would have ended in a NASA space laboratory. 🙂 I swear it won't happen again….. Sean.…
OOOOOPPPPPSSSS!!!! Hmmm I think that was a BIG mistake on my behalf… but then I hope that all ye folk out ther take into account a long night and early morning before the message was written… SORRY. 🙂 I think that money and long nights don't go together… Maybe it's…
well have fun doing that… just make sure to wipe the ink off the screen afterwards! 🙂 Sean.

Merlin
Message #104622
there should be a merlin message here somewhere…. else I'll have a look and see if I can get some specs again. It cost 699 DM approx. which is approx 1100U$ …. but hardaware here is usually dearer than in the states. Sean. Flying low after a long night at…
Thanks for the info. Sean. (the original "…yes or no…" person) p.s. I've heard the weasles get shot by farmers.
Ahhhhhhh! Now I see what you mean. I don't know if the system software uses the light pen or paddles… I've never looked.
Chris, I rekon that that is meant for me??? Is it the stuff regarding the HD Floppy? It looks like it anyway… Thanks. Sean.
Chris, there is such a nice phrase in german which goes "Schadenfreude ist die schoenste Freude!" 🙂 I know what it's like to have Murphy as a permanent guest. Afterall I'm Irish and so is he! Sean. p.s. ASAP sounds good but isn't all that important.

Blitter Question
Message #35461
The amiga mouse/game ports support light pens, paddles, joysticks, mice, and anything you want to connect (even some samplers). The amiga is after all not a PC :-). Sean. p.s. the game port can even be used to output signals such as the sync signal for a light pen.
BUT all DMA has to go thru the 16 bit bus (a2000) anyway so what good does it do unless you have your DMA on a 32bit bus (a3000/a4000)?? Sean.
Yes. As soon as your 32 bit ram is full the system will begin to allocate 16bit fast ram and then 16 bit chip ram. Sean.
I presume that the card wouldn't put it's ram into the fast ram area as this would be stupid as it limits ANY such card to 8MB. I have a Fusion Forty which can use up to 32MB of 32bit ram. I also know that all the C= turbo boards…
Leslie, The 32 bit ram is much faster than the 16 bit ram which is on you're 8MB 16bit ram card. I presume that what will happen is that your system will decide that the 32bit ram will be used first, than the 16bit ram, and then the 16bit chip…
Christian, I don't think that anyone minds looking over the fence to see what's growing on the tree in the other garden (a rain cape!). I already knew about the apple drive from the //c so it didn't confuse me and I think that it educated more poeple than it…
🙂 Me neither. But I must say that the # here is a good one! Sean.
Betty, I made a slight mistake when I left my message so that it's not clear as to which drives I mean… I mean FLOPPY drives. I was wondering if you meant the same thing??????? If you do mean floppies: I'm not scared of a soldering iron… I'm scared of…
well so he did!
Steven, ooops…. I think I wanted to say DISK DRIVE! Sorry. I have an AT/SCSI controller in my amiga as it is (Masoboshi). I was wondering about the disk drives that are used in the PC world as I've never had anything to do with them I don't know anything…
Hi Sean, Well I call Ireland home but live in Germany… But then everyone makes mistakes! 🙂 Sean.
Well me was told it's a HASH. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it. Sean. p.s. If you look at it for long enough it will induce fits of laughter (I've heard)! p.p.s. # = 🙂
Sean, I think that'll go most of the way I want to go as far as FIDO is concerned. Now all I have to do is get a few more fidos. (what country do you call home?). Sean. p.s. Looks sorta funny with the same at top and bottom.
Mike, I recon that that will bring me closer to the users I want to reach. It might not get me there but hell it'll work some time in the near future and if I have to re-wire internet by hand! What I want to say is THANKS. Sean.
#HDDRIVE yes or no!
Message #103704
Dear hardaware, Is it possible to connect a PC 3.5"HD drive to a normal a2000c(PAL) (presuming that the end-product should work!) ? I don't think it's possible but if it's possible without soldering a pound of resistors to half a pound of transistors then it'd be a good thing.

Message #103271
Dear All, Do you know how to get a message to a FIDOnet user via the compuserve mailing system.. I don't know where the FIDO net links into the other nets as I never tried to find out before. I would also be pleased to know if it's possible to…
Jim, I thought that the mouse port was buffered! Is that not so????? Ok. I know that it's STUPID to pull out or plug in expansion slot/zorro slot appliances and serial cables etc… but I thought that it was absolutely safe to muck about on the mouse port. I had…
Jim, Sometimes it happens that the mouse port is worked loose by changing joystick mouse all the time. That means that you'll probably only have to desolder the port and replace it with a print mount joystick port (9 pol sub d). It happened to me and I just removed…
Jonathan, Before you go for the PICASSO take a look at the MERLIN. It's about the same price and has MUCH more to offer! I'll go for the MERLIN as soon as I have the cash on hand. I'm just waiting for a 20" or 21" multisync to come my…
NEWS FLASH FOR THE AMIGA HARDWARE CONF. :-), After carefully reading all the messages about the '040 I've come to the conclusion the the 68040.library must be written in amiga basic which would explain why it's so reliable and fast (Well done C=). After reading all the messages which concern…
Hmmm, Maybe you could sell me a hammer with it too?? 🙂 Sean
🙂 I said that you shouldn't quote me on that… But NO I'm the I wouldn't copy illegal stuff for anything on earth person. I hope that you are too! Sean. p.s. I think the only thing I've done wrong was not to pay the shareware fee on NComm after…

Message #100650
Joe, yes sure but the thing is that I live in Germany which is a hell long journey for a hard-drive. I think that any hard-drive which goes on that journey stands good chances of not making it! (I reckon that you're in the States). Sean. p.s. HOW MUCH??
Don, I fully agree with you. Computers are not capable of thought. Computers are wonderfull tools to work with though. Sean
Ok thanks for the help. Sean
Kickstart 1.1??????!!!!!! I Think that some poeple here don't even know that it ever existed! 🙂 … It reminds me of the good old days when we sat in front of an a1000 with a second drive and thought that we had made it into paradise!! What kind off software…
Buy a Masoboshi controller??? 🙂 Sean
